There was a actually a developer who worked on Sands of Time Remake who posted about the experience of working on the game on the Gaming leaks and rumours subreddit back in 2020. A few days before the game was revealed they stated it would be show during the UbiForward Show but that everyone should tamper their expectations especially when it comes to the graphics - Once the trailer released and people realized the account was legit, the developer came back and made another post detailing about how Ubisoft had grown sick of the 'Bring Back Prince of Persia" and "Bring back Splinter Cell" crowds, so decided to give one of their lesser experienced teams a shot at remaking Sands of Time. The team were excited at the idea and saw it as an opportunity to finally prove themselves as AAA game Devs - and then they saw the budget they'd been given, and realized this was a game that was being sent out to die to shut fans up, and that this team was just being treated as the fall guys rather than being given an exciting opportunity. Once the trailer was released and Ubisoft realised how passionate the gaming community still was about the IP, they panicked and delayed the game throwing extra money at the Devs to try and started offering more support studios to assist development. What happened after that is anyone's guess though, I would imagine that the game was so broken that this eventually led to Ubisoft realizing they'd have to start from scratch, which is probably when they decided to just hand the game to Ubisoft Montréal.

I just wanted them to give POP the same treatment as the new AC game. The gameplay trailer for that game showed a lot of elements that reminded me of POP3.

Honestly, I would've loved pop08 as a standalone game. The ending was awesome and somewhat concluding. But no, they had to release that dogshit of a dlc epilogue, where everything fell apart and the story went nowhere.

The have 1 single formula for open world games 10 years ago, and they used the exact same formula with nothing new all these years. I disagree. How are mobile focused studios supposed to get experience developing larger games? I feel like a remake is the perfect way to give a trusted small studio a larger scope. You give them some support and guidance, but if the publisher thinks they're capable I think it's fair to give them a chance. Given how ubi is run, I think it's way more likely that management/direction from corporate Ubi are what tanked things.

I'd very much like to see the Warrior Within remake. The game totally engulfed me back then. I played and replayed it multiple dozens of times, not to mention that it's soundtrack was basically my entry to Alternative metal / NWOAHM, which I listen until today. Big kudos to Inon Zur, Stuart Chatwood and Godsmack for this wildest soundtrack.

I am from India and when I came to know that this remake would be developed in India, I was filled with excitement as well as concern. While it was a really proud moment for the fans here, it is good to note that there is no massive AAA game development company which is based solely in India. We've not made games that hit the mark yet. We're really behind today's graphical enhancements across all games. So I'm a little glad as well as upset that Ubisoft decided to shift the studio. Part of the reason for this could be that we are highly inexperienced when it comes to PC game development, the studio also has only worked on creating assets and mobile games so they did not have a high experience at development of PC or Console games. Though it's heartbreaking, it's okay, because we aren't the best yet, there's a lot of time to improve upon. I hope we get more opportunities like this though and I wish them the best! Hope they learn a lot and gain experience first then try out making a game next time.

Combat had its fun moments when you really got a cool combo going between Elika and the Prince, but holy shit was the game repetitive. All it was was one giant fetch quest for light seeds and all of Elika's powerups were nearly identical in practice. She gets a power that allows you to fly (on a set path) and all that power reminds me of, is how I wish they had made some cool platforming challenges instead.

warrior within will be my best game ever reason being the time it came out and the way I played it. i'm a 90s kid and PC was a luxury until 2005-08 here in India. when I finally got myself a pentiem 4 (previously had pentium 2 so only dos games were played) and one of my classmates have me POP warrior within. i played the dos version of prince of persia and was expecting some similar type of game. but when I started the game my whole world changed like how the fuck is this a game? 3D gameplay with sword combos and parkour !! damn that's like top of "cool shit" for any kid that era xD also the game story was top tier and no game since then had me that hooked in a game story. sadly two thrones sucked compared to warrior within. it had silly villain and stupid dark prince gimmick when compared to dhahaka and sandwraith

Great video. Loved it and love this game series :) I just wanted to point out a couple of corrections. The various releases of Forgotten Sands didn't tell the same story but rather each game told an entirely different story with different gameplay. The PS3/360/PC release telling a story of the Prince at his brothers kingdom, the DS version telling a sort of follow up story to the main game, the Wii Version telling a story of the Prince using a genie to wish for his own Kingdom and the PSP version telling a story about him facing a fire spirit because of a prophecy. as for The Prince of Persia movie, it isn't supposed to be the same continuity as the games exactly but rather heavily inspired by it. After all these delays though, assuming we get any version of this game at all I'd love to play the version we were initially shown anyway. I definitely wasn't confident with it but I still would have loved to give it a shot.

If they really put their hearts to it, the prince of persia will revive their studio like how god of war and resident evil 7 did. Ubisoft is sitting on such great potential since such a long time. Prince of persia is a title which already has a very good story, fan base and fan loyalty. With less but careful work it will be on the top. It just needs god of war treatment.

God of War was already successful. I would compare it to Tomb Raider instead. That Franchise went from nearly dead to most popular action adventure with a single reboot. But Ubisoft is very greedy. Most of their games are mediocre at best. They should sell PoP to a more capable studio. Don't expect them to do an RE7 style revival of Prince of Persia. They are good developers no more.

I had the 2008 Prince of Persia but didn't play it through because of the mechanic where the assistant would save you any time you fell off a ledge or didn't make a jump so you never died. I know I'd just have started from the previous checkpoint so there was no real jeopardy, but removing even the minor threat of going back to a checkpoint if you timed a jump wrong just took away any sense of peril or satisfaction from traversing obstacles successfully which was one of my favourite things about sands of time.

One of my friend works there, he told that trailer got so much bad publicity that main usa office deleted all access to indian offices and said now they would lead the project, it was later announced it would be delayed or cancelled as low response could kill the franchise

I play video games because of the first ever Prince of Persia. I played all of them and I agree with some comments below to the effect that some of the previous games have been "criminally" underrated and overlooked, as @KadeemG61 said. The PoP Trilogy was a blast for me and I can't wait for The Lost Crown to be released!!!

Watching this in October 2024, not long after Ubisoft's meltdown with Ghost of Yotei overshadowing AC Shadows. They deserve their downfall, but I hope the Sands of Time remake isn't collateral damage of their failures.

I remember seeing the adds for the original game and thinking wow I want this game . Funny story when I got my PS2 it came with prince of Persia but I had forgotten what it was called so on my first play for like 5 mims and thought this isn't very good so I didn't play it for a couple of months till I see the add again and then realised what game it was and what a great game series it was

Hitman, PoP, Splinter Cell, BGE.. damn, half of my childhood memories are Eidos and Ubisoft game. It is sad that the project was snatched from the Indian team, who could've brought a unique and authentic take on the games given that the first game is set in the backdrop of ancient India. Something like accurate historical figures, lore or native tongue like hindi/tamil/malyalam, clothing and traditions etc. being spoken and subtitled. Someday, perhaps, we'll have a documentary explaining why the decision was made. I'm still grateful that some executive at Ubisoft took a chance on this franchise.
