Hogans Heroes was about a P.O.W camp in Nazi Germany. It’s in the 60’s snd very popular. Some of the actors won Emmys. 3 Jewish actors actually played the roles of Nazi. One of them was an actual Holocaust survivor. It’s actually a funny show. I was surprised I’d enjoy it.

I’m seeing a lot of comments about Chi McBride and they’re mostly unfavorable but I don’t think he should be blamed for any of this. He was a working actor. I guess it’s easier to say one should and could walk away from something they don’t agree with but at the same time this was also his livelihood. I’m not trying to change opinions but I think we should see it from the other side too. Not to say this sitcom was right, this sitcom was a TERRIBLE IDEA

For anyone asking if they’d do a sitcom about the Holocaust. There was 60’s Hogans Heroes. Originally it was supposed to be about prison life but it became a P.O.W camp in Nazi Germany. 3 of the Nazis were played by Jewish actors one was an actual Holocaust survivor. So far I haven’t seen scenes involving Jewish interment prisoners because it focuses on the P.O.W’s but you do see lots of Swastika imagery. The cast was Emmy nominated and it’s one of my favorite shows but I’m not Jewish so I can’t attest to how they feel about it. The Nazis are portrayed as clueless, likable idiots so maybe that makes it an easier pill to swallow. That still doesn’t make this slave sitcom ok. Every group or individual needs to set there own standards just because something was done to another doesn’t make it ok to do it again.
@glw5166 Жыл бұрын
Hogans Heroes was also the TV version of the William Holden movie Stalag 13. I also read that the Jewish actors only signed on if it was guaranteed that the Germans would be presented as idiots which the show always accomplished. Hogans Heroes was a very successful show but, since blacks are still dealing with the effects of slavery, a sitcom about slavery will never be a hit.
@ptolemeeselenion1542 Жыл бұрын

I generally don't think any subject should be off limits to being used for comedy. If you're stupid enough to pick a subject that the public doesn't want to watch or you do it in a way that isn't funny to most people they'll reward you by letting you fail. You do that enough times and you won't be working that job any longer or at least you shouldn't in any merit based employment, sadly Hollyweird is a place that allows people to fail upward. I like McBride as an actor but even with him starring in it, I wouldn't have watched this even if I'd heard about it.

I remember hearing about this show and seeing advertisements on UPN about it and I was immediately turned off. I thought to myself Jesus what were they thinking about when they came up with the concept of this show? Any subject matter can be made light of or considered humorous if done well or written with some kind of intelligence but this clearly wasn’t it. It wasn’t done well and there was no intelligence involved. It was all about shock value. The nimrods responsible for this probably thought let’s make a show so devoid of taste and intellect that makes light of an awful period in human history for the hell of it. The fact that this show was even allowed to air is an insult not only to black people but people of all races.
