This is why Prince was so uptight about his music because these record companies, record executives, and these artists have no problems stealing and sampling other people's work without getting permission or even paying them.

Angie is the true queen of “neo-soul” as opposed to Erykah Badu. Had it not been for Angie’s support, D’Angelo would have been incapable of completing his debut project. She’s my generation’s Gladys Knight and Mavis Staples and doesn’t receive the accolades she so rightly deserve. I admire her to pieces. 🖤🎼🖤

@@coldblooded568 With all due respect Sis, I’m funneling info through MY perception. It’s my right as well as yours to do so. I’m a huge EB enthusiast, but if you truly knew AS’s and D’s story, you’d perhaps have a clearer understanding. I’m not “tearing down” EB. That’s impossible. She’s a phenom. I stating an informed opinion. Angie deserves/deserved “better than that.” 🖤🦋🎼

@@coldblooded568 I invite you to watch the other Vlad interview where she details how the record execs ASKED her to help him produce Brown Sugar. D had no discipline, nor desire to finish the project. AS was incredibly instrumental in helping him get it done. I also invite you to view her feature on Unsung. After D’s success, she was treated like garbage. Again, not “tearing” another Sister down. But if D is the king of neo-soul, AS is the queen. I’m just illuminating what’s in the dark Sis. ✌🏽🖤🦋

@@coldblooded568 Definitely don't think she was tearing down E. Badu. Just acknowledging those who came before and/or may have paved the way for Badu. Sometimes, the people that do the "grunt" work or the worker bees don't get the credit that they're due.

Angie Stone was "Angie B" on the First Female Rap Group titled "The Sequence" along with group members "Blondie" and " Cheryl The Pearl" back in 1979. I still have all their vinyl and was lucky to get their music on CD. Angie Stone was also part of another group with two men called "Vertical Hold" back in 1993. The cut "Seems You're Much Too Busy" was the known cut. I also have their 2 CDs. And of course we all know her solo music up to this day. I have much respect for Angie Stone for being a survivor in the crazy music business for over 40 years.

Absolutely! This kind of thing (not getting writing credits, no royalties, etc.) has disproportionately affected black and brown artists more, but many artists of all races have been cheated for generations.

Wow!!!! Thank you for sharing. All this money being made and Greed takes over fairness and respect. I can't believe people that sample an artist music doesn't respect the artist enough to pay them. That's foul.

@@nwananka She said Clive Davis didn't want her to talk about the group because it would age her...Her group should go back and due everyone that sampled their music and didn't pay. They should do it so everyone knows who wrote the music and lyrics. Bruno made hundreds of millions off of that song.
