I had Pro Tools Perpetual, then upgraded from Intel to an M1 Ultra, which requires Monterey. Suddenly my version of PT doesn't work without a ton of crashes, half my plugins don't work. And Avid told me the only solution was to update. Wow. Luckily, I saw this coming and bought on of the last update codes, or I'd have to go onto the subscription model. But whenever I use the code, I get a year of updates of PT and just have to pray they make a Monterey compatible M1 native version that is stable in that time. Because that will be last version of PT I will ever own. I'm tempted to sell my upgrade code (Which would go for twice what I paid) and just move over to Reaper. Then I'd only have lost $300. Frankly, what Avid is doing should be illegal.

Wowwwww… this is exactly what I’m taking about. That is incredibly scummy. Really hate to hear that

@@kylechumchal I wonder if we start one of those crowd lawsuit campaigns to raise funds to sue Avid for anticompetitive, monopolistic and unfair contract behaviour. No other company in audio has done what Avid has done to my knowledge. The terms and conditions might allow it, but that doesn't mean it's fair, so a court might rule the terms and conditions are anti-consumer practices or whatever legalese that describes what Avid are doing. Like when UAD created Spark, they didn't force people to re-buy native plugins. Avid is literally doing this for compatible software. Did they warn the customer base enough? Was there a duty of care breach? I think so perhaps. Maybe do a video on it? I'd be happy to help with some research and start a questionnaire. Big debate happened on Reddit recently, some people upset, some saying it worked for them (People who hadn't previously bought an expensive Perpetual copy I think): www.reddit.com/r/audioengineering/comments/wgjjss/avid_hatewhining_post/

I need to do some more research on the protools situation. I knew it was bad but I did not know it was THIS bad.

@@kylechumchal Well. Actually. I've heard Avid U-turned on Perpetual licences and the upgrade codes so I ended up overpaying! Ha! I guess Avid didn't get the sub numbers they wanted so had to re-instate the standard system or extend it.

Agree on most of your points 👍 AUDIOTHING, CABLE GUYS, NATIVE INSTRUMENTS, and SUGAR BYTES have always been stable on both my macs & windows OS. They're great Plugins as far I'm concerned and have ALWAYS delivered a great bang for the buck 😎

I love Cable Guys and Native Instruments too. Thankfully there are still a lot of good companies to counter the bad ones.

I agree with you. I think the only best way is rent to own other than that subscription is a scam ,,, for me, I recommend Xlnaudio - Softube -air - cableways
