What Happened To Wii Rainbow Road?

Wii Rainbow Road recently got a glorious remake in Mario Kart Tour! However... there's one thing about the track that makes it very underwhelming to race on. Today we discuss about the tracks remake, and what it means for the inevitable Mario Kart 8 Deluxe version!

Tour does looks like it's for casual players. You barely fall off the track. Having lots of borders isn't necessary. If it comes to the BCP, they should stick with 3 full laps and make it faithful to the original. It would be cool to add some Tour elements for Wii Rainbow Road if it comes to the BCP to make it more interesting.

Agreed. Not to mention Smart Steering is available for both games. Im sure they will make it closer to Mario Kart Wii's eainbow road once it arrives on the dlc, if it ever comes.

It probably won't have three laps, but also it won't be a sectioned track, personally, I think it will have 2 laps, since it's not too long for a sectiones track but not also too short for three laps

At first I was disappointed that Wii Rainbow Road is 2 sections. However, after a couple of times playing the course, it does feel a bit over-scaled in comparison to the original. I mean it could’ve been worse, and I said this to many people, it isn’t as bad as Tokyo Blur 4

I was bored out of my mind yesterday so I made a graph of all of the courses and their 150 CC time trial records by the Nintendo Developers and the longest tracks in the game being Maple Treeway and Waluigi Pinball both clocked in at 2:36. Looking at footage from Wii and Time Trial records from that game, both DK Mountain and Wii Rainbow Road are about 10+ seconds longer but honestly I think they’ll still be ported to 8 Deluxe no problem with their 3 laps intact. We’ll see if both make it in since they both play kind of wonky in Tour but would play perfectly in 8 Deluxe.

So is DK Mountain and Wii RR about the same time to race on IF Wii RR was two full laps? If so, it’s very strange Nintendo made the decision of cutting the track in half.

@@ryderkartdx The Nintendo 150CC records on MKWii took 3:05 on Wii Rainbow Road and 2:57 on DK Mountain but in Tour (though keep in mind I’ve never played Tour) from gameplay and keeping up with the time on the videos it seems like DK Mountain takes about 2 minutes to complete in Tour (about a minute per lap) but one full lap for some reason takes a full minute and a half on Wii Rainbow Road (which would mean Wii Rainbow Road would take 3 minutes with 2 laps). I wanna say it’s just scaling issues because DK Mountain looks significantly slimmer in Tour like in Double Dash but looks gargantuan on the Wii and Wii Rainbow Road is also super upscaled in Tour when in Wii it seems shorter and slimmer, that’s I guess also not taking to account getting hit by items or auto slowing down into barriers from some of the tricky turns. But yeah I think they trimmed Wii Rainbow Road down to 1 lap because of scaling and the points system that people were talking about. Tour is just a weird game I’ll admit but if they do add both into MK8D (which I think they will) I think they’ll strike a balance in their sizes to appropriately make them feel long but also not make them too long. Quite a few tracks are longer than 2:20 in 8 Deluxe but only 2 are past the 2:30 mark atm so I feel like those are the only two tracks that’ll surpass that 2:30 time mark.

Oh forgot to mention as well that Tour’s CC is slower than the typical 150CC from Wii and 8 Deluxe that also contributes to Wii Rainbow Road’s long lap time in Tour

Your point is very valid too. Since Tour is a mobile game Nintendo probably wanted to cater to the general public hence why they made the track so short. If you think about it, longer tracks barley show up in tours anymore: 3DS rainbow road, maple treeway, DK Pass, DK summit. Very interesting but valid.🤔

It’s very unfortunate Nintendo doesn’t bring back the longer tracks, because the longer ones are usually the more popular and more fun tracks to race on.

If we do get this in Mario kart 8 it will definitely be a 3 lap track, especially now after people are complaining about it so much, not to mention it would be the shortest track in the game if it was like that, only doing a single lap the race could be finished in like a minute which I doubt will happen

My guess, is that this won't mean much in the 8 deluxe side of things. They'll probably make it a bit smaller so that the challenge is there, that made it iconic and such a fan favorite. I don't think the laps will be much of a problem, since Nintendo probably knows our opinion on this, and will make it 3 laps. And as for the road looking ugly, the 3DS remake got a revamped road that looked nothing like the tour version. I feel bad for the tour players, but if the course comes to the BCP, I don't think we should worry.

I not sure what to believe because Nintendo likes to use the tour things in the Mario kart 8 deluxe dlc. I really hope they can make it like the original in the dlc, because no one likes the tour remake so Nintendo if you want to make money than make it just like the original but better.

Wii RR is one of those courses you cannot mess around with at all, just like Waluigi Pinball or 3DS RR.

I think this is an act of balancing long tracks and short tracks in MKT. Each tour has a combination of longer tracks and shorter tracks. As you can see in this tour, we already have the longer 3ds rainbow road tracks which has 3 sections, others are mostly 2 laps 'medium' tracks. Then we have Kalimari Desert 2 which is also a 2 section 'short' track. I think for Wii Rainbow road to be a short track isn't a horrible idea, it keeps you on your toe during the race and probably this is even more appealing to new players. All I want to say is, not every tracks are designed to be a long track, Wii Rainbow Road in its original form isn't long to begin with (compared to N64 and 3DS etc.) , it just had the standard 3 laps, let's embrace the latest rendition of it from Nintendo.

This is just as bad as making N64 Rainbow Road only one lap in 8 Deluxe, but the difference that makes the N64 remake still better than the original is that the original is empty and boring and just straight up bad, the remake should have been at least 2 laps, with Wii Rainbow Road the original was already perfect, including the perfect length for a 3 lap Rainbow Road, so shortening it for just 1 lap is disastrous I am actually willing to forgive it in Tour because while it is way too short now, it makes sense for a mobile game, but if they butcher it for Booster Course Pass everyone will be absolutely livid

Prediction for 8 deluxe: -it starts out like tour with the checkpoint at the glider ramp, -you continue normally but before the finish line a red ramp will appear that will turn everyone around, -now you have to race in the opposite direction, -the glider checkpoint will activate lap 3

I’m fairly certain that it’ll remain the full 3 laps in Deluxe if it comes (and it probably will) because there’s really no way to split it into 3 separate sections without them all being too close to each other or too close to the starting line

If compared to modern mario kart tracks, the entire wii rainbow road feels like a tricks track. I guess it's understandable why they only made 1 lap out of it. But then again, tour also ported 3DS rainbow road so...

Wii rainbow road and 3DS are very long tracks, they have to be nerfed for mario kart tour, because people would score too high if they were three laps. Anyway, I'm still very happy to see this track in the game, and hopefully play it in Mario Kart 8 DX as well.

It was definitely designed for 1 lap, that’s why I don’t mind at all, if they did intend for it to be 2 laps I bet it would’ve been watered down and have a lot of sections be really small and short. As long it’s won’t be 1 lap in deluxe we will be good.

Unfortunately, since i didnt grow up with wii rainbow road and many other reasons such as top shelves (first bottom shelves for a long time) and the 2 lap thing, it has failed to impress me (apart from the music), and why did they not put 3ds rainbow road in ranked THATS STOOPID RMX RAINBOW IS DEFINETLY WORSE

So after all the moaning you get to the end of your video and say it's a beautiful course but admit that most of the classic tracks have been shortened in some way, other Rainbow roads, Kalamari come to mind, what's the point of grumbling it's still way better than Deluxe... isn't it? You all need to watch out and stop sleeping together on Discord, there's a very good chance this game will be done after the last DLC is released on Deluxe... careful what you manifest PS the RT variant of this course is in my top5 of best tracks on MKT, it would probably make everyone's top 10
