I really loved the design of Windows Phone and the OS looked way more modern than its competitors at the time. Sadly, the fact that Windows Store had so few apps made the phone useless.

My first phone was a Windows Phone and I loved it. To this day, I remember it very fondly, apart from the complete lack of apps for it. If it had even close to the apps that Apple and Android have, I'd probably still have one

In my opinion, the problem was with access to apps. Perhaps the company should have made provision for exchange of apps with other phones since the Lumia store had limited apps. Young people at the time would appreciate phones that received apps and games from other phones. In fact most did not learn to download apps and games from the Lumia store probably because they were not exposed to 'internet' or were not even aware of the facility. A lot of young people complained about access to apps but the company just ignored and made no effort to improve user experience with unlimited apps. However, I believe the company will succeed if they decide to come back. This is because, people are now highly exposed to the internet and they know they can download their desired apps and games from the Lumia Store. This generation of young people with better knowledge of utilizing phones and their facilities, will definitely appreciate Lumia phones if they are made available.

Ok im sorry but apps werent a new concept even when the iphone came out. Anyone who doesnt know of there existence by 2014 should definitely not be using a smartphone but rather a basic flip phone. Sounds to me like a complete failure to make a os that has a decent design.

I had a Lumia as my first smart phone back in 2014, worst piece of tech I've ever owned. The thing was slow, buggy, battery life was abysmal and personalization features were minimal. F*cling hated that thing, glad it died

I loved my Windows Phone because it was easy adjustable for example I sometimes had a black screen at the front and the second page was a list of all the apps. I think the main problem was that Microsoft entered the smartphone business not too late because those phones were actually quite good and had changable batteries and good cameras. Plus for a person who doesn´t need much their phone was perfect because of the icons and the easy way to manage it. The small store was a problem because many apps that came up couldn´t be found in there.

I had a couple of Lumias, they were brilliant. Great cameras, and snappy performance. I still miss them. I've owned iPhones for the last 4 years. No choice really, as I dislike the Google/Android business model. In my opinion, the whole iPhone user interface is an aged design. If Apple and Android didn't have such a stranglehold on the market, it would be they who were swept away, rather than Windows Phone. Something else, though, will come along, I'm sure, that forces people to suddenly look around and see iPhones and Androids for what they are. Anachonisms.

Apps. Apps were everything. That’s why I finally switched to iPhone. I can’t remember what app I wanted that I couldn’t get but that was the final straw. Looking back, I really liked the Windows Phone UI.

I used an HTC One M8 for Windows, unlocked, till windows 10. There was a golden era where everything worked great including all the most popular apps you really needed, all that was missing was app support from all the various device makers (wifi cameras, thermostats, and other IOT devices, home automation, drones, toys, etc), that was till they started dropping perfectly working apps which were actually useful (like banking and social) and doing other updates to basically break various features. You could still use webpages or alternate apps for most stuff, but it was like self-sabotage. It's still hard to believe MS couldn't (or chose not to ) hold on to a chunk of the market when they had the first real smartphone/OS back since Windows CE on HTC TyTN (Hermes and WIzards) and such (they were working with HTC long before Apple too). I remember having what was essentially a mini laptop built in to a phone in my pocket and streaming music with it in my car back when everyone was first buying Razrs, and when the Iphone came out it seemed like a toy in comparison (how many years did it take them to make it able to copy-and-paste?).

I still use my Lumia 640 LTE. I'm not a heavy app user. All I need is a smartphone with email, text, a podcast client and a music player. I plan to use it until 4G is completely phased out.

HTC One M8 Windows here, same on the apps, though it pissed me off how they forced updates that "dropped support for" (locked down) app after app when it was working perfectly fine. It was like self-sabotage.

I had a Lumia 1320 and loved it. It was smooth and the live tile design was more modern than ever... only costly Apple iPhones match the fluidity of Windows OS experience and those were so cheap compared to the iPhone. BTW, I still have mine and it still turns on and everything and the performance is still as good as it was 10 years ago or so...

I miss WP a lot but now I find Microsoft frustrating as a company. Speaking from a consumer point of view the frustration of Windows 10/11 not being able to install or update on a PC was a familiar disappointment following from Windows phone. We never had high end equipment. I know Windows mobile was its own department but there was a universal platform. Even for family school work we cut our losses and went Android & Chromebook and learn to put up with the shortcomings but at least seems to me to be 'alive' with updates. Maybe a catastrophe ahead when Android or iOS goes but we go with what we got. I'm not clever enough at tech, just a consumer but I have seen on KZbin those that worked on Windows mobile and you can appreciate all they did to make it work. Thank you for this upload.

I advocated for the windows phone at retail stores. People just couldn't seem to justify it due to what was considered popular. Smartphones were new and SS along with android seemed the end all. Trend bias made sure of that. I stuck with Windows phones for reasons of practicality and ease of use, for the fact that it had a certain way about it. A tidy suitcase, vs clothing stuffed in garbage bags. I kind of knew at the time that if windows mobile couldn't gain enough altitude soon, it would cease to be. What people are saying now though... You don't know what you've lost until you're forcibly stuck with something else.

Windows phone was excellent.. I ran a couple of the ones I had up the other day and it was just so good.. It was never going to be an iPhone as they didn't have the apps, but in my opinion, it was better than Android.. It was a great O/S and I think if they got their act together and reserected it, this time with all the standard app makers onboard, I think it would do well.. Just my opinion..

I had a Microsoft Lumia 535 running windows 8 and I later upgrade it to windows 10, I liked that phone, the problem with Microsoft was they didn't listen to what consumers wanted, there was no need to compete against Apple & Google, Microsoft had the upper hand to take their phones to a who new level, I understand windows works better on bigger screens, but that is not the case, real windows have the exe and the windows phone had the xap, Microsoft could've converted their pc apps and games to their phones and later to other that also run windows, then developers would've taken more interest in windows mobile, then it was no need for Microsoft to kill their phones, Bill Gates hired the wrong people to work on windows phones, windows phones could've been now the biggest phone company but just messed up big time, the only way to get windows phone back in the game, they must run a real windows OS that works perfectly, we need that pocket pc.

Im pretty sure that now that Microsoft is about to be the leader on AI a relaunch of this phone would be a hit. Specially cuz ppl are tired of apple taking advantage of customers and android interface its so boring at this point. Im a believer that in the next 2-3 years its the best moment to relaunch this.

I had a windows phone once and it was the absolute WORST experience I had. I thought I couldn't do anything on Apple's iOS but WOW you literally can't do ANYTHING on a windows phone. The interface looked HORRIBLE and cluttered. People say they like its modern design, whatever that means. It looked horrible, big mess of icons with too much inconsistency in size and very bland looking. The absolute worst phone I have ever used in my life. They do just fine in the gaming and computer industry.

is it unfathomable that Microsoft sold at least 50 million devices and that it is not worth producing more for this amount? it was the best operating system, I dare say that. I still use it today. if it had a normal browser, it would still be more usable.

It's all because Microsoft took a wrong partner (the stupid Elop) and bought a wrong company (Nokia). If Microsoft had ever bought Research In Motion, the company who made Blackberry smartphones, Windows Phone could've been available until now with integration from Blackberry features such as Blackberry messenger. It could've been the coolest messaging if Blackberry Messenger and Microsoft Outlook integrate each other, and would be the great efforts for big companies who uses Microsoft Exchange servers. It could've been the great choice as a business or corporate smartphones.
