Stephen Hendry's Cue Tips

Stephen Hendry's Cue Tips

Жыл бұрын

We went behind the scenes at the British Open at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes finding out what Stephen Hendry does in his role as pundit visiting the studio, commentary box and green room as well as the TV truck to see how a live match is produced.
We also got to see the warm up room and how players such as Mark Selby prepare for a match and Stephen shares his memories of the tournament.
Let us know which other events you’d like us to go behind the scenes of in the comments and subscribe to the channel for more great snooker videos.

Yeah, to be fair that's probably an element to his huge success. He seemed to keep to himself and stay extremely serious and focused on his game. That does seem to be the way of professional snooker. Maintaining an extremely high level of focus and accuracy for a very long time, and every little helps. The difference between one player winning a match and the other losing could often just fall down to the fact one managed to avoid distractions and get a sensible early night etc.

Yeah I totally agree! Through the 90s we all sat in the living room as a family to watch Stephen play and win world titles etc it was some of the greatest nights we had as a family (we’re from Scotland). He always seemed miserable your so right! Nice to see him like this and he’s adapted to this role really well.

Noppon is probably the most respectful guy on the tour, I love his enthusiasm for the game, he gives the impression he takes every day on the tour as a gift and an honour to be in the presence of his peers. Unfortunately that probably almost makes him too nice to hit the no.1 spot, but I always like to see him playing well and getting a result here or there.

Amazing behind the scenes vid! Better than any of the ones they do on tv. Great work on this channel, Stephen, been watching you since I was about 4 in 1989. I hope you'll also do many more of the casual player interviews while playing a couple of frames together. Brilliant format, simple and obvious idea that I've always thought should be done on the tv and never has. The few times I've seen players interviewed at a table they never actually play or just demonstrate one shot or something and then they get the bums rush by the presenter. The fact you know them really enhances the discussion beyond most interviews also. It would be a dream to get to play a frame or two with you, so this is the next best thing (without you trouncing me too!). More great snooker content like this along with many more good snooker clubs that have proper grade tables are what's needed to get more people into the game on a professional level. Here in Liverpool we have never had a single snooker club with a decent table and I've never actually found one anywhere on my travels. Playing with chipped, scuffed up balls, ragged cloths and generally badly maintained tables does nothing for your game. It was an eye opener the first time I played on a freshly maintained table once and suddenly was potting about twice as many shots, simply because I wasn't getting about 50% kicks and roll-offs.

Hi Stephen, I played snooker (blind pool, pin single & star, backabag (..golf?) etc)) when cue tips were glued on using wee discs made from rendered animal parts, softened in boiling water, transferred by knife point & placed on prepared cue tip. Changed Days! It's 38 years since I last played snooker until I recently joined a local pensioners club which have the luxury of a full sized table. I feel as if I've returned tae my misspent (as some would say) youth. I bought a new (18.9 oz) ¾ cue with case & 2 o Ronnies Elk Master tips etc. I've been playing or re-learning the game for about a month now & inbetween discussions of various oponent's ailments, operations etc I've found that the table seems much larger than I remember & now wearing glasses for short & long distance can detract a bit from the enjoyment If ye bump intae Dennis could ye ask him whaur he gets his glasses? Watching your video above will help me as I am still missing balls (on the table) that I should pot easily. Initially I thought that these misses were caused by the tip on the cue being harder than tips of years past. So I re-tipped the cue wi' Ronnies Elk Master which I later found out to be classed as a "Soft" rated 60? tip. It suits me better than the previous one & I'll persevere with it but I still think this one's 'feel' is harder than older tips. One thing that, I feel, would be beneficial for all standards of player is a video of your experience on "cue weight & tips" as I think that todays trends has turned into a bit of a mine field today as far as selection & performance is concerned. (e.g. In my teens 16oz was great, 20's-30's I went up to heavy 17.5oz.) Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I always comment to people I watch the snooker with that the little montages after matches are always well put together and must have to be done quick because they play them as soon as they come back from the commercial break after the last frame. Now we know it's all top quality work from Martin Reardon 👍

Stephen Hendry is very funny I think. Watching him over the years since the 90’s I didn’t think he spoke at all or have a sense of humor. But always admired him for his politeness and how he conducted himself in the game. He’s always respectful. During his heydays he was ice cold during tournaments. Even when he made a error or missed a pocket, no reaction at all. In the early 90’s he’d cut through all opponents like a hot knife through butter. Smooth and lethal. Better than Ronnie. Stephen Hendry was like the Terminator of world snooker! Sharp, efficient, no emotion like a machine. Now watching his new KZbin channel, he’s quite a chatty chap, well spoken and funny, but still very polite. Cheers.

Years ago I asked Steve Davis (on a live chat) to suggest a "behind the scenes" look at commentary as part of the BBC World Championship coverage, eg as one of those short VTs they run during an interval or between matches. But that never happened, so I was really pleased and grateful to see you'd done one :) Very interesting to see how you guys make sure the coverage is as good as possible.
