What happens during a swallow test?

Julie Hicks, one of our Speech & Language Pathologists, explains what happens during a swallow test at our Center. Some patients are nervous about the test and we hope this explanation helps!

I have a dislocated hyoid bone, where it is pulled down and sitting on the thyroid cartilage, from a botched plastic surgery that surgeons are reluctant to concede even though one orthopedic doctor is certain just from palpating the area. Can a swallow test illustrate the action and position of the hyoid bone?

just a question do any of the liquids have a bad taste i mean i know the cookies and the water and the pudding don't but do any other liquids have any bad taste at all ??

Hello! We use Varibar barium products for contrast (liquids, pudding). The thin liquid is green apple flavor and the pudding is vanilla flavor. Most of our patients are pleasantly surprised that they don’t taste quite as bad as they anticipated.
