Although the chair is a violent and potentially gruesome method of execution, they would never leave "fluids" on the floor in the event of a multiple execution (which hasn't happened in decades, if ever). The condemned wears an adult diaper in all executions for this reason.

That would depend on the state. Some would simply put a bucket underneath the chair. Some would do nothing.

Fred's electric chair in Tennessee, as originally constructed, was determined to be incapable of delivering the amps and volts advertised. It was measured by two electrical engineers during tests in 1994. One of them subsequently reconfigured the chair and its wiring to get it to sustain the necessary the necessary lethal volts and amps.

The guy who altered the TN chair that Fred built was one sick puppy. Flew in just to watch an execution. He cared more about cooking the individual than executing them. @@andystitt3887 absolutely correct. According to Ohm's Law, V = IR meaning, Voltage is the product of amperage (current) times resistance. For a given voltage, therefore, a person whose body offers a greater resistance will have less current flow through him than someone with a lower resistance. That being said, however, at the voltages typically employed for an execution (jolts of anywhere from 1750 to 2400 V), the relatively minor variability in human resistance from one person to the next should make a very negligible difference in the amount of current delivered. As long as contacts are good, and saline is employed, the current should be well in excess of a lethal amount. Leuchter's modification of having the return path of the current divide between both ankles is a good one, in that it helps ensure current will flow evenly through the trunk.

Why don't we line up all the guards, and as the condemned walks by, have each guard punch him or her in the gut. Oh, and have the victim's family hit him or her in the head with a blackjack. Two things: 1. What if this person were actually innocent? Isn't it bad enough the state is going to take a life? 2. And what does it do for us? Do we exact our revenge by making ourselves look as bad as the murderer, whether that person is being executed, or someone in his or her stead is?

It isn't about the criminal. It is about us as a society. It is important to treat everyone with as much dignity and civility as their behavior allows - even horrible people who do outrageously evil things. We don't drag people naked behind a cart while whipping them on their way to be broken on the wheel in the town square. Why? Because that would say something pretty bad about us if we would tolerate anyone being treated that way.

In Great Britain, after a particularly grisly execution by hanging of a woman who may have been mestruating at the time, the practice of issuing a set of absorbant "knickers" was established. Came for the "what about the victims" crowd who honestly believe that nobody has ever considered that thought and that society cares more for the rights of the condemned: Was repeatedly not disappointed. Nobody has forgotten the victims, if they had there wouldn't even be an execution. The humanity of an execution is mandated by the Constitution, not our own thirst for blood and vengeance. The fact that the condemned "doesn't deserve" a humane death is irrelevant, society doesn't have the right to knowingly and purposely torture someone to death or humiliate them in the manner that Leuchter speaks of. Get some new talking points folks.
