Like he said, they said 10km probably because that's the limit of detection, not because it actually was 10km deep. 10km is incredibly shallow for an earth quake, even 60km down is considered shallow. The seismographs likely have a limit of detection of 10km, so even if it happened at 500m down, it would still register as 10km.

10km underground? The deepest man made hole is 11km and is just a narrow tube. Iran can pull off a world class scientific and engineering achievement but can't build a nuke?
@badaoe3stratsonly130Күн бұрын
The seismic activity had a depth of 10km. That doesn't mean the bomb went off 10 km underneath sea level. It means our sensors could sense seismic activity that could reach 10 km down into the earth In all likelyhood the nuke was detonated beneath one of Irans mountains. Which can be up to 5.6 km above see level. Furtheremore, if you are just conducting a nuclear test. You wouldn't need a large warhead. So a narrow shaft cut into the earth would do. The W54 Nuclear warhead was small enough to be fired from the davy crocket recoilless rifle. While still containing as much explosive power as 20 tons of TNT. You could lower down an simmiliarly sized tactical nuke, with an long reinforced cord connecting it to a remote detonation device. Then once its at the bottom of the shaft you built, you detonate it from afar. The shaft wouldn't have to have wider than an man to an W54 on a reinforced cord to be slid down it.

No radioactivity was detected and the location of seismic activity was too low for a nuke. It's highly unlikely it was a detonation, and more so as a regular earthquake, frequent in the region.
@altragКүн бұрын
You wouldn't measure radioactivity if it was underground, unless you took your measurement devices underground as well, which I doubt anyone would have done. As for the depth... those seismic estimates have fairly large error bars, especially when they're being measured from a long distance away. A 10km reading is entirely consistent with a true epicenter all the way up to the surface.
@kleroterion1196Күн бұрын
@@altrag Iran would have been bragging about it. The IMS uses four complementary verification methods, using the latest available technology: Fifty primary and 120 auxiliary seismic stations to monitor for an underground test by measuring shockwaves through the ground. Sixty infrasound stations to listen for ultra-low-frequency sound waves moving through the atmosphere at levels inaudible to the human ear. They really want Iran, like really really. If Iran falls their plans can move forward much much faster. I hope Syria finds peace, Syria is one of the good ones.
@altragКүн бұрын
That's possible, but it comes with an absolute truck load of preconditions. First and foremost, it depends a lot on how Iran acts after such a development. If they get widely belligerent as the video suggests (or their proxies do), it could cause even more instability. Next up is the reaction from Israel and the US. If either of them overreact, things could get messy as well. Finally it depends on those other nations you mentioned. SA is maybe the least concerning - they would work to develop their own nukes in retaliation but would be unlikely to cause serious problems (though that in itself is caveated on how the US reacts to SA's hypothetical nuclear program). Turkey is more concerning, mostly because of their NATO membership and how the west would react if a NATO member started trying to develop a new nuclear program at this point in history. The other nations are more up in the air. There's quite a few of them and they all have differing political and economic situations, as well as differing relationships to Iran. I'm not really in a position to even guess what they'd all do, though Egypt, Libya and Algeria are getting rather far away from Iran geographically so I'd not expect a huge reaction from those three specifically. Some complaining at the UN and maybe a parade or something to act as a small show of force if even that much. Not that I'm any expert by any means. These guesses are mostly just based on geography and some rough knowledge of the size (geographic, population, economic, etc) of the larger players in the area, along with recent history.

Iran is no threat to India nor Azerbaijan. India is already using north-south corridors of Iran, and Chabahar port, to connect with Russia. Also Iran will be in China's Belt and Road plan anyways, due to Iran's strategic location. The purpose of the Zangezur corridor is to "disconnect" Iran and Armenia which has a lot of un-wanted consequences for Iran, it basically blocks one of the main routes from Iran to Europe, and it will give a leverage to Turkey and Azerbaijan to put pressure on Iran. Similarly the Arab_MED corridor was another route suggested by Israel and Arabs to bypass Iran. It wasn't particularly for India's interest, the main purpose was harming Iran's interests. Finally, neither Arabs or Turkey will get seek for nukes. KSA is literally US's puppet and it's not an independent state. US will not give them the permission to construct such arsenal. In addition, non of Arab states have the industrial or scientific capabilities for such things. Turkey, is a member of NATO, and US already installed nukes in Turkey. But again she'll not be allowed to build her own nukes independently exactly because of NATO membership...

I know nukes are powerful and stuff, but people forget how powerful conventional weapons are. The air-raid of Tokyo was deadlier than the nuclear bomb over Nagasaki. And if you detonate a nuke close to your borders (I am talking about hundreds of kms), then it affects you as much, especially if the sea is involved. As the Tschernobyl nuclear melt down did in Anatolia and that was "just" a nuclear meltdown. What I am trying to say: You can always use conventional weapons. Not so much nukes. Let's say a conflict starts in southern Aserbaijan between Turkey and Iran, would Iran really use nukes and poison its own territory? Not to mention that nukes are a huge money burner due to their maintanance. People overvalue nukes. Not that they should be undervalued, but it is not as much of a game changer as people believe it to be.
@capnbarky2682Күн бұрын
Nukes enable the use of non-nuclear weapons, as well as diplomatic options. You can see this in Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the dynamics between Taiwan and China. It creates a line really far down acceptable geopolitical behavior because of its possibility for escalation.
@justsefa1843Күн бұрын
@@capnbarky2682 You can do that even without nukes. If Russia had no nukes, they would have still invaded Ukraine. The nuke topic is in no relation to the topic at hand. Other nations are also invading or supporting other nations all without nukes. E.g. Turkey in Syria, even going against Russian soldiers, despite the fact that Russia has nukes. The only thing nukes do well, are the prevention of an all-out war, Vietnam style, which can 99,9999% of the time be solved diplomatically in this day and age. I highly doubt that even a war like the Iran-Iraq war could have ended in the usage of nukes, since it would just damage all sides.
@capnbarky2682Күн бұрын
@@justsefa1843 well I would say that all out wars actually died out because of nukes in general, since even if a country doesn't have them, one of their patron states probably does. It's easy to see how nuclear powers are able to bully non nuclear ones, Israel and Russia are able to personally push the ticket way more than even a very large modern army like Iran's because they're backed up by being at the bargaining table for Armageddon.

I see your Azerbaijani agenda between the lines, and that is no surprise. Some fact checks: 1- The issue with the Zangezur corridor is that it passes the Iran-Armenia border (even if the alternative route inside the Iranian territory is not pursued) on which Iran and Armenia have sovereignty. This means their approval is a must, and their interests should be served. 2- There are also political science theories, supported by known figures in this field including John Mearsheimer, stating that a nuclear-blanced rivalry leads to stability AND less conventional confrontation as the necessity to co-exist gets imposed on both sides. To sum up, no single theory may be universally applicable at all times.

The coverage of this channel about the war in the Middle East is simply biased and shameful. We understand that you are from Azerbaijan, an Israeli client state, but this shouldn't turn you into a propaganda machine. We expect more from this channel.
