What happens if Microsoft buys Discord?!
Rumor is, Microsoft buying Discord is a thing that might happen. Will Microsoft buy discord? If so, what does that mean for the future of Discord? Will we see it shut down like we saw Microsoft shut down Mixer? Here's my take.

I can 100% guarantee you that if Microsoft gets their hands on Discord, it WILL NOT be separate. They pulled this BS before with Skype. When Microsoft bought out Skype, they completely deleted their messenger program at the time: Windows Live and didn't even transfer any of it's features to Skype, they simply deleted it and started using Skype as their main platform and that is what will happen again if Microsoft gets their hands on Discord.

Microsoft isnt the type of company that lets the sub company do its thing. Microsoft tends to put their fingerprint which affects the sub company and hurts them in the long run.

Ps out sells 2 to 1 against xbox and if you make them exclusive that be cutting your audience in half from the gecko. Then you used skype which was integrated... what happened there zoom came out and nobody cares about skype no more. In my opinion i think thats whats gonna happen eventually a new company is gonna have its turn in the light.

I really hope for the third scenario! And I want to assume Microsoft will take this seriously. I see financial journalists talking about how Microsoft should integrate discord into teams and combine the gaming focused app with more professional uses. That would obviously be a mistake, so I doubt that would happen. One mistake they could make is trying to simply rebrand it and make it more exclusive. A name and logo change would be a major red flag. If they do that, then I’d imagine this would become more like the first scenario. Discord acquisition must be mostly hands off aside from basic improvements. Better integration into Xbox gaming, improved servers, and additional features would be good. Taking things away, restricting the platform and its users, pushing for more exclusive access, and rebranding would be bad. It could go either way.

I have reason to believe this because Microsoft, to me, is known for wanting more, and they can get more by requiring more people to user their Microsoft Account service so that they could advertise more Microsoft services to users and players, like through email. Cons of microsoft buying discord: -repeat skype, more security vulnerabilities, drywalled demolition on consumer value/focused on business and market, fisher price flat metro design changes, more memory/pc resource consumption and bloat, updates every 6 minutes instead of every day, full datamining, logs leaked to public every day, ads added to clients forcing you into a paywall to remove them, if ea actually partners with them on this you may even be required to pay to USE discord. Microsoft loves running its competitors into the ground as they've always done. Guilded is going to be the next big thing. Guilded is much more feature rich than discord already and big bot devs like top.gg, emoji.gg, helper.gg, tatsu bot devs and other bot devs are planning to support Guilded. Guilded is the future.

While it is clear that Guilded is specifically made for gamers but our exclusive features like inbuilt polls, forums, threads and etc makes it a very good tool for communities outside gaming as well. Guilded is the future, have been using it for a year now and it is far ahead of Discord. Keep in mind that I am not that of a gamer and I still find Guilded very useful.

People don't understand what's going on Microsoft never wanted Discord, but Discord put themselves up for sale, so that means huge tech companies such as Amazon, Apple and Google can also buy Discord, and if they do, Discord will be changed since these are not gaming companies, Microsoft is the only company able to buy Discord that understands games, not Google or Amazon and especially not Apple, they will probably make an official Discord app on consoles which is a huge W for gamers and nothing much is going to be changed, they just want to make sure their main rivals don't get their hands on a big social media platform.
