I'm glad to see you are still giving Oblivion some love. For all Skyrim's changes, it is quests like this that really show what we lost from Oblivion and Morrowind. Failing as a choice, unexpected optional pathways, the feeling of real permanent impact on the game world we had and gradually lost from one game to the next. Like, with Morrowind I tried genocide to see how long I could go and how far I could get just because. Or the secret thief-assassin that burns all his bridges behind him in hopes of becoming the new sole "God" of Morrowind.

@TheNuclearGeek Жыл бұрын
@@johnnyboygriffin5764Oh, I have. Hell, I'm old, I played Morrowind when it released. I played Oblivion for literal years (and will again no doubt), and there have been tradeoffs each step of the way. Gaming was still much more niche and for geeks and nerds, so those games were tailored to geeks and nerd. Skyrim has great breadth, it's wide and beautiful and you can get enjoy the long journey of individual quests without many deep quest chains (the way they trimmed down the civil war is the obvious but prime example), but the older games have much more depth to them with the interweaving questlines. Both approaches have their benefits and drawbacks. I'd like Bethesda to pull back some and find a middle ground, but money talks and it's hard to ignore Skyrim's numbers. BUT, if they are paying attention and seeing how Skyrim has led people to Morrowind and Oblivion all these years later, perhaps they are keeping a wider eye on things. I guess we'll see if we can make it to 2037.

You ever do a lore video over the white gold-concordant and all that? Personally I feel like the Empire only weakened itself when it signed a treaty with the Dominion, but maybe if I see a more in depth lore video about all that business it might give me a new perspective. I don’t see have losing Hammerfell and potentially Skyrim could ever help the Empire.
@Shinobi_Fox Жыл бұрын
It definitely didn't, if Hammerfell was able to push the Dominion back on it's own then really the Empire definitely could have at least recovered ground vs the AD before ending the war. The concordant was just meant to fragment it even more by banning talos worship (as it did) and without Skyrim the Empire is pretty much done for, they lost the support of the Dunmer after abandoning them during the oblivion crisis and red year, the Argonians seceded because they only care about their land and the Hist, Redguards were expelled because of the concordant, Orcs are all over the place, dunno about the Bretons. It's pretty much just just the Imperials (and maybe Nords depending) vs the Altmer, Wood Elves and Khajiit at this point, they are done for. It's worth saying though you can actually meet a spirit of Tiber Septim aka Talos in morrowind under the name Wulf and he says that the Empire kinda failed and it's time for something new and fresh even if the transition is messy. So depending on how much they have kept that little bit of lore from morrowind then even Talos wasn't supportive of the Empire anymore when the 3rd era ended. I think it would be better to have a new alliance or major faction rise up now, the Empire is just too weak, betrayed or abandoned too many of their own vassals/people and just doesn't have the leadership or support to survive.
@mrbonjangle Жыл бұрын
@@Shinobi_Fox exactly. I’ve been trying to tell this dude that the Empire shot its own foot by signing the treaty. He wants to put all the blame on the stormcloaks, but it’s really inevitable when you sign a treaty that allows a foreign nation to trample your people. Hell, they just released control of Hammerfell.
@jacobfreeman5444 Жыл бұрын
At the time the Empire was bleeding to death. They were hoping to play the long game as elves generally reproduce much slower than humans. Since the Thalmor were just as devastated by the war the Empire wanted time to rebuild their army. Point in fact the Redguard's did as well as they did because of how devastating the war in Cyrodill was for the Thalmor. If the Thalmor had not been spanked quite as hard as they were the Redguards probably would not be able to strut around with big curved swords. While it is bad for the Empire that the redguards went their own way the Redguards did something the Empire no doubt wanted them to do. Relentlessly harass the Thalmor while they were still weakened.
@mrbonjangle Жыл бұрын
@@jacobfreeman5444 but if the Redguards could do that alone, then the Empire as a whole could defend their borders and replenish their numbers faster than the Elves.
@jacobfreeman5444 Жыл бұрын
@@mrbonjangle not really. The Imperial army was decimated by the war. If they asked their provinces to resupply them with what was neccessary very likely those provinces would not just leave the union but may actually turn against them. Better to let sleeping dogs lie while they lick their wounds. That said it does seem like the Empire did a bad job at conveying their intentions to their vassal states as well as managing their affairs. They allowed a sound decision on how to fight the war going forward to disrupt their own plan to keep fighting.
