Vodka is 60 percent water. At that percentage, the engine would definitely misfire. The only reason the truck ran for a little bit with vodka was because the vodka elevated whatever gasoline was left in the tank so that the inlet of the fuel pump was able to pick it up. Water is more dense than gasoline so it would sink to the bottom while the gasoline floats to the top. As soon as the top gasoline runs out, the inlet will pickup vodka. At that point, the engine would misfire and stall due to the water.

Nope. The inlet is at the bottom of the tank. The heavier fluid would get picked up first. I am guessing the water is separating in the combustion chamber and he hydro-locked it..Idk.

@@farandwide7176 Hydrolock would only happen if the water accumulates in the combustion chamber. I don't think that is likely because the water is going out the exhaust valves as quickly as it is going into the intake valves. In cases where water enters the combustion chamber via a blown head gasket, hydro-locking is unheard of. So if an engine can handle the water from a head gasket leak, it should be able to handle the amount of water coming in from the injectors.

Even though the pickup is technically at the bottom, it's a ciuokple of mm up and that's quite a bit of liquid required to reach that level. His 2 litre or so bottle of vodka probably raised the remaining fuel to the pickup

It probably dies down because absolut vodka is 40% alcohol by volume, which means that there's 60% water. Water in the pistons is really really bad, hence why it's a good idea to do this with an old truck. Cool experiment And since I'm here, I think it's interesting to point out that regular fuel already contains 10% ethanol, which is the same as drinking alcohol. That's why you sometimes see E10 written at the pump, it's because there's 10% ethanol.

@@Notfiveo0 my best guess would be the compression, with enough pressure you can increase the concentration of the alcohol in the air/alcohol mixture. My other guess as to why it seized is that while the alcohol kept igniting the water content from the vodka stayed in the cylinder ending up hydro locking the engine.

Btw guys heres a handy tip i learned growing up with all older vehicles. Once the tank says empty pr its on E, you can usually drive alot of those older cars and trucks for another 50-60 miles before theyll actually run out. They did that on purpose cuz they USED to be cool like that. You know, make things convenient for when you get caught off guard or get stuck in a bad situation. Those days are loooong gone though..

Yeah, you can mix a lot of things to get you to the gas station. I pissed in the tank a few times back in my partying days, when I drank alcohol it always worked. I used to put rubbing alcohol (forget the concentration) in the tank when my 73 Cutlass was running rough in the winter. Fixed the problem before I got more than a quarter of the bottle in the tank. Alcohol soaks up any water that gets in the tank,or so I was told.

lol that is something. As for it to keep going on Empty like that makes me think if there’s something wrong with the gas gauge. I’ve had that happen to my car once when I had my car full but the dial read half tank. Then travel so many miles to get half tank the dial switched to 3/4 tank (moved up) from half tank. So possibly a sensor malfunction. It was something and to keep track on your miles traveled to put gas in right or be stranded.

Fun fact the reason we don't use alcohol for fuel is the milage is really bad it lasts only 1/4 as long as gas would for the same amount and to realistically run it in a car you should get a specialized carburator/fuel injector made for alcohol because it burns different than gas does

In Brazil we have something called flexlible cars from factory, which can run either with gas or alcohol (called ethanol). Alcohol usually do 60% of the mileage of our bad quality gas, but it is chepaer and gives additional power to the engine.

This is why I loved my '95 Bronco. The gas tank always seemed to hold more than 32 gallons. My reserve must have been atleast 8 gallons.. Thing was a TANK, 7500 pounds wet and even with a hole in the block she ran like a charm. Just had to refill the coolant every 2-3 minutes lol Straight vodka over time would easily lead to sugar build up within the cylinders I'd imagine. Would be nice to see what the internals look like after a breakdown.

I thought it was the starter to because ignitions can get stuck and that's what it sounded like to me, of your ignition works fine then hold it next time you start your vehicle and it will simulate a stuck ignition and that's what it will sound like

There's usually about a gallon or two in the tank reserve and fumes will keep it going quite a long time until you open the fuel cap. So if you have no fuel don't open the Cap until it stops. I've personally converted a car to run on fumes and the mpg is insane. There's videos on KZbin showing how to do it.👍💚💛❤️

you see you see the computer in that trucks smart enough to adapt to use the vodka the vvti can adjust the engine timing which is why it works as long as the fuel burns the engine computer can adapt to make it run on a fuel if it's possible

My Chevy Silverado was like this, it would run until the needle was far below E, I’d sometimes test it because I lived 50 feet from a gas station essentially, plus I never spent much money on gas. Only filled it up halfway when it was empty, and I really only drove to the grocery and work, maybe to GameStop or somewhere but very rarely.

In Brazil we have engines that uses alcohol since the 70s For the last 20 years pretty much every vehycle runs with either gasoline or alcohol you can just use whichever you want to fill it (and obviously you can mix)

@@chris47374 Oh yeah, my recent trip from New Orleans to eastern Iowa, it was 60 when I left New Orleans and - 22 when I got back into Iowa City. I didn't run out of gas but it was just like that -- I fueled up far enough south that it was still reasonably warm, with a solid 100 mile fuel margin when I got back. Oh no! The frigid temps dropped my highway MPG from 38-40MPG down to 27-29MPG! I had to fuel up in -10 temps, then the tank was low enough when I got to Iowa City I figured I better top it up again in those - 22 temps. The cold weather also damaged the coating on my glasses.. 😡

To pull this off you need a really old and sturdy diesel engine. My father served his military duty in USSR army in the late 80-s, and he told me some of their machines could do that. I.e. drive on anything that burns, the only difference with normal fuel being increased consumption. So If you're Swedish, you might want to try something like Stridsvagn 74. Or and old truck of the same age ^^
