You mean spare everyone, not even attacking anyone but Asgore...? The fight against Toriel makes it pretty clear you don't have to fight her. After only a couple of turns not attacking her she starts going easier on you. Besides, she literally teaches you in the first ten minutes of the game that you should not fight, and have no reason to.

Not everyone, the main characters are dead, except sans and toriel ( you can only fight sans in genocide run, this wasn't genocide because the player spared toriel. They live on, including all of the monsters citizens, that you havent fought, only if you let chara free in genocide will they all die.

The character was already on screen, we were aware of what was happening, and the rate at which the image changed wasn't sudden enough to qualify as cheap and easy. I think I would have preferred something more similar to "The Ring" for that part though.

As long as you keep sparing Toriel, there is only 3 ending you can get. Killing other monster can change the ending, but usually it just change some of Sans Dialog. Sparing Toriel give you one of the three Toriel ending, Killing Toriel give you the Undyne ending, no matter which other monster you killed, killing Toriel and Undyne give you the Mettaton ending, again no matter which other monster you killed, killing Toriel, Undyne and Mettaton give you the Papyrus ending, and finally, killing Toriel, Undyne, Mettaton and Papyrus give you the Dog ending.

I think what's scariest about this ending (well any neutral ending) is the fact that you're still in the underground. For anyone who doesn't know, in any neutral run you don't leave, you're still there. So talking to sans (who knows you're alive and in the underground) and being given threats over the throne is pretty goddamn scary. Especially when you think about the Alphys call where she tells you that she would of killed you if she had the chance.
