Roses lime marmalade, nothing but the best for simon

Nice demo Simon. I did one a while ago under a tumbler and it went off like a bullet. I’m surprised it didn’t break my glass. I need to build a stronger container before doing any more. Great fun though. Cheers Graham

I recapped the PSU on an old Tek scope and accidentally put 2 capacitors in the wrong position. 300v through a 16v cap made one hell of a bang!

Lol that's what I used to use my scalelctrix transformer for. Connect up and under voltage electrolytic and dive for cover behind the curtain 😀

When I was a kid running a car stereo shop in S.F., (early 1970's), would shoot them through a tube out the door, 3 - 10 volt lytics clipped to a 60 volt transformer. (Shhhhhhhh -pop - stink) I still remember that electrolytic smell...

At RMIT in ‘79 we were told of a kid in the previous years course who decided to play the old “zap someone with a charged cap” prank. Didn’t check the voltage rating and put it on a 300V supply. BANG! It was said that he wasn’t much use for the rest of the day.

Serves the little git right. Quite funny though.

This point to something important, how do you protect yourself while testing circuits? What if the tested circuit is a bigger board, i.e. 20 × 20 inch?

Done this a few times placing them inline backwards! :) ~Jack, VEG

Back in the old days (92 a 93) , when i started with electronics, i wanted to check what the results was, if you try to charge a 1.5V coin cell battery with 30V AC. I got that day my own episode of the Big Bang Theory :-)

You're not a real hobbyist until you had a electrolytic blow up on you. Mine tended to be wrong way round more than over voltage. I lost my capacitor virginity at 12. You always remember the first time!

You can't fool me simon, you were in a silly mood and needed to torture a poor little cap lol :-D The mess it makes in equipment, hard to remove the pong. Try a old bead tantalum, ooow nasty smelly crap cap :-D

No Shaun, we used to do it as kids and this video was made a few weeks ago. Modern caps will fracture preventing this explosive action. Good fun though
