I thought OEM Software stands for Obtrusive Extraneous Manufacturer Software... Did you have any specific features you'd be curious to see if they could be removed entirely from Windows?

I have done that before and no damage is done to Windows XP. The only thing is that programs are missing and some settings are removed.

It makes Windows XP very fast, from my experience. Did you run into any issues with how limiting it is? Like being able to run some software or some unexpected crashes?

@@adventuresinnostalgia It does help speed it up.

Few years ago, I would use TinyXP, which during the setup it would show 8 different installation options, from the most lightweight to the default winxp installation. Even the most lightweight version was usable, and it came with some reg files to make it even more lightweight, but at the risk of stability. On my old p4 notebook, that OS would fly, I was able to watch youtube without problems (2008 iirc) and play so many games. It was fantastic! But to be honest, with how powerful computers are nowadays, there's no need for such an old PC; even my crappy i5 4310 notebook is waaaay faster and power efficient than that old P4 notebook. Well... that's my opinion ofc. And I still have that notebook for nostalgia reasons (Compaq Evo n610c). Cheers!

Wow, TinyXP sounds fascinating! For viewers who might be interested, could you tell us a bit more about what features were removed in the most lightweight version? Were there any unexpected drawbacks you encountered besides stability concerns?

Have you tried any of the lightweight Linux distros? They have even less overhead than XP. Although, Microsoft software is pretty hit and miss on Linux

XP is a much lighter OS than Windows 10. Removing features in 10 might not have the same dramatic effect. Would you be interested in a video exploring how disabling features impacts Windows 10 performance compared to XP?

@JoBot__ That's a great leap! This video explores XP, but you bring up a good point about Windows 11. Were you curious if a similar experiment would be possible with a newer OS? Maybe there's something specific about feature removal in Windows 11 you'd like to see?

@@adventuresinnostalgia i mean that they think its well optimized compared to vista and windows 7 because they used it on overpowered hardware. but it was really bad on most low end and midrange computers from 2001 when it was new .and it was very bloated compared to older versions of windows while not improving much .

@@adventuresinnostalgia do you mean this one? Best Boot Disk for MS-DOS: Revive Your Old PC (ICTbPnzF1-Q) maybe my mind is playing tricks on me but somehow i remember a more complete version of the video on this channel, not being cut off at the end. :D and i definitely can't find "Changing Windows Color Schemes, Wallpaper, Themes, and Other Settings" (only a 1 minute slice of a once 12 minutes long video) and i also can't find "The Untapped Gold Mine Of 32 Bit Software for Windows 3.1 using win32s". :( and by being unavailable on this original channel, all the comments below these videos are now gone also. :( edit: most dos and wfw related videos on the other channel seem to be "cut" somehow, at the end and/or on the beginning. for example the only video i can find searching for "win32s": Run 32-Bit Apps on Windows 3.1 (It's Possible!)" (Tkmt25nXMPQ), which starts AND ends with a hard cut, so there obviously must be missing something on both the beginning and the end of the video. :(

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. All of the videos migrated to the second channel have been edited in some way. I have better editing skills now than I did back when the videos were first produced. Generally speaking, I attempted to remove background noise, improve the audio, and cut the intro and outro. The most recent advice I have received for 2024 KZbin is that intros are a waste of viewers already very limited attention span. So "Welcome back to the adventure, this is Adam" has been removed. The outros on the other hand refferd to stuff like "videos every Thurdsay" which I havnt been able to do in several years now. I checked the "Ultimate Book Disk" video on both channels and all the content is still there. however, I too thought there was more to it. I have wanted to make an improved version of that video so i added it to my to-do list. As for "Changing Windows Color Schemes, Wallpaper, Themes, and Other Settings" I just published it to the second channel kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2itnqpunLiMiqM
