still running windows 7 Ultimate in 2025 Jan 1st. Id recommend Panda Dome antivirus its really very good and not to restrictive, make sure you do a full scan when first opening it. Only install critical updates as a lot of the newest updates are generally for winding down the O/S and will produce unwanted pop ups on the desktop telling you to upgrade to windows 8. Load Firefox in the setup menu and update it once online then you can pick any browser you like as your default browser.

Installed lmde but it couldn't recognise my wireless network card, so no internet. Erased it.

Trying to do this on both a VM and a seperate PC, and both fail to install the update KB4536952. They simply just state that the updates were not installed.

how did you get emmc drivers for windows 8, i can't find answers anywhere?

Unfortunately the Internet Archive is not a good place to host these ISO files. When I tried to download my previous updated Windows 8.1 x86 ISO file, the estimated download time was anywhere between about 8-14 hours... making it impossible.

I'm currently migrating from an old Win 8.1 PC to a newer version with a current Intel Core and was so unfortunate for not being able to use Win 8.1... Really great work that you did on this! I installed windows 7 onto a cheap NVME drive, it feels faster than windows 10 with all the fancy features. My I5 12600k idles at 0-1% and the temps are 10 degrees lower when gaming. The RTX 3060 runs just fine with some old drivers, even the ray tracing works. I just played Quake 2 RTX and got a pretty steady 144 fps on W7 and it maxes out at 30 fps on W10. Gotta get a usb wifi stick to connect to the internet because windows 7 doesn't support my motherboard, but that's the only problem so far.

honestly it might be better in the long run for preservation because theres tons of people that look on ebay while cleaning out a house or something and if the computer isnt worth much on ebay people might just outright huck it into the trash. Like I saw a youtube comment on a video about recycling electronics and a guy said he found an old vhs camera looked on ebay and they only sold for $20 so he just threw it away instead
