I think the reason people may find mispressed labels on records more valuable is due to the fact that it is a manufacturing error that is difficult to replicate. This type of stuff happens with other collectibles as well
@ArtsyFartsyTimo3 жыл бұрын
I understand. As a one-time coin collector, I get that. Although this actually is easy to mimic if you work in a pressing plant

@@ArtsyFartsyTimo - By my calculations, center labels lose between 0.5% and 0.7% of their original size when pressed onto a record. I did notice, however, that the majority of these error pressings are PRC . . .

Thank you for this video! I had a loose label on a new record from Amazon and thought it was one label and I'd have to find a way to glue it back down. I didn't know there was no adhesive. I ended up peeling it back like you did and found out there were two labels! Now the record is good as new

Thanks man as I have a Type O negative Life is killing Me 2 lp side A with 3 to 4 labels pressed into the entire playing area. I was really ticked as that was the album I really needed from the box set. Well hopefully this year we will get the 20 year anniversary edition of this record .

Thank you very, very much for this video! I got a sealed copy of a Prince album two days ago (the reissue of Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic) and side D had exactly a faulty label like this. Like you, I was pissed and thought about returning it... searched on the Net but found nothing about it in forums. Then I came across this video - and it worked exactly like you show it, I fixed my record label 5 minutes ago - great! Thanks again!

Dear Gozer's Den, contrary to this video, I have a 60 year old vinyl album and the labels are coming off. If they were adhered as this video shows, then no adhesive was used in the first place. I assume they just did not get pressed deep enough into the vinyl to hold. What options do I have, if any, to get these labels back onto the record, nice and flat, without destroying the labels or, at best, having them look rough? I'm not sure how you will reply: to my email or here on KZbin.

Lucky for you I'm about to upload a video so I actually checked this page. If I understand you correctly, if it didn't get pressed into the vinyl, then you'd probably have to glue it. Of course you'd want to be careful when you do that. Wondering if a spray glue (onto the back of the label) would work in this case?
@Jim-y7u4 ай бұрын
@@ArtsyFartsyTimo After thinking about all the possible risks involved in trying to glue the labels to the vinyl, I've decided that the safest thing to do is to just remove the labels, keep them as flat as possible (they're starting to curl where they are coming off the record) and put them in an envelope. At least that way, they are preserved and not ripped or damaged. It's a classic album by The Shangri-las and I don't want to do anything that would result in damaging it.

good advice. I might use the naphtha trick to remove part of ( a slither) the ‘off-stamped’ label that has been pressed incorrectly (as it covers part of the run-out) on one side, causing the stylus to skeet straight onto the label at the end of the last track

I have a record that has tearring label (properly placed not like these funky ones you showed). The papper was just transfering papper mist all over my record and it was really annoying. I ended up doing the same as you did. Now it is all removed but it really misses a label, I don't like it blank, what should I place to kinda fix it? Any idea?

I don't mind the bubbled ones so much, I have quite a few which I managed to get loose. However it leaves the label below kind of rough - like a different typeof paper was used! It's awful when you see people trying to sell records with a label embedded in the grooves. The record is of course unplayable and I see very little worth in them.

I got a 2007/2014 press of Depeche Mode Music For The Masses and it had the same double label as your Sandy Denny and the Strawbs album. I was able to keep mine in tact with some very very small tears on the outer edge by carefully using a knife to make a smooth cut along the outside. Now its in the jacket with the original record sleeve 😃

@9:17 - yeah, Goof Off (acetone-based) is bad for vinyl, but Goo Gone (citrus-based) is harmless for removing sticky crud. Don't get 'em mixed up. AMHIK. ... well, no, don't.

in the event the label isn't covering grooves, i would use WD40 as an alternative. removes adhesive very gently, maybe with a sponge or microfiber. does a decent job of cleaning a record if applied very lightly. cool soapy water to clean off any residue.
@MsKalachakra2 жыл бұрын
Do you think acetone might do the trick? My problem is similar, not a missprinted label but regular tape I removed from the record, but the glue from the tape is still on the record.

I've had wonderful success removing glue residue from vinyl record grooves using Everclear 95% alcohol and a small piece of cloth 😮 A few drops of alcohol right on the glue residue, then wipe parallel to the grooves with the cloth. I usually wash the record afterwards with distilled water just to clean off any remaining gunk. Works great! 😍 Zero audiable or visual evidence that there was ever glue residue in those grooves!

Okay but what if you’re purposefully trying to remove the label in order to use the vinyl record as an art piece? (It’s not a collectible just a random Christian album from a thrift store)

Hmm 🤔 Interesting... I've got a record with bubbles under the label. Almost like it didn't stick to the record for some reason, and I always wondered why (How could it not stick? 🤔 Doesn't make sense. Record labels aren't attached using glue 🤷♂️) It never occurred to me that there might be 2 record labels on the same side, but it makes perfect sense now that I think about it. In fact, that's about the ONLY reason why a record label wouldn't stick properly! 😮💡 On another note... I think it's unlikely that playing over a record label pressed into the groves would snag the stylus and damage it 🤷♂️ Although it would sound like crap every time the stylus passed over that record label 😫👎 Due to the high pressure used in manufacturing records, I don't think there would be enough of an "edge" to snag the stylus 🤔 This is partially based on experience. I've got a few Jamaican pressed Reggae records with really off center labels. Off center enough that the runout grooves are pressed through the label 🤦♂️ And although it sounds like crap, the stylus passes over the label without a hitch 😁👌 Although I still try to avoid it anyways. It's probably not the greatest thing for a stylus and would likely cause accelerated wear...
