We want to share our passion for efficient, sustainable homesteading that brings the family together. On our homestead we do chemical-free gardening, grass-fed milk and beef, pastured eggs and broiler chickens, and free range children :) We love to go on adventures as a family, so if we're not workin on the farm, we're probably hiking or out getting ice cream. We're all into DIY, and being inventive and creative. We believe in homesteading that's sustainable, not just sustainable homesteading. In other words, we want to show you that homesteading doesn't have to wear you out to the point that you give it up. We've seen it happen, and almost came to that point ourselves. I’m going to “light up the comments” by telling you how GRATEFUL I am that you and Michelle are dedicated to keeping fear as a motivator away from your message. You’ve both said before that you should live the hands on homestead life because it’s how you want to live and enjoy it, not because you are afraid NOT to. I need that message daily because the other message is *STRONG*. I’ve weeded out and unsubscribed from so many channels for it and I’m thankful to be able to enjoy and learn from your channel because it feels like a safe place for my heart and mind. “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. 24 Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you. 25 Let your eyes look directly forward and your gaze be straight before you. 26 Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. 27 Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.” Proverbs 4:23-27 ESV

We are in Vermont and during the whole eclipse our cow stayed in her run-in laying down chewing her cud. The rabbits would run in and out of their huts. The ducks, chickens and wild birds were totally silent. Even the chipmunks went silent. It was a bit unsettling but amazing..

I didn't get to experience this eclipse but definitely remember the one in I believe 1978 when I lived in Hood River, Oregon. At work they decided that we would open an hour late so we could enjoy the eclipse and avoid the "massive" traffic jams. Because it was a small town and we were being told our area was the ideal location in the US to view it we were overrun by spectators, many who slept in their car since we didn't have a bunch of hotels. Just as it was beginning I realized I needed to get more disposable diapers for the babysitter that day and made a mad dash to the store 2 blocks away. When I got back it was so bizarre because it wasn't full yet but there was a distortion that was similar to when you see heat waves coming off pavement in the summer. That visual disturbance was enough to throw off my balance. My husband was laughing because he said I looked like when someone spins around a lot then tries to walk. We lived on the outskirts of town where orchards and farms were beginning and it was completely quiet. The morning birds stopped their chirping and most noticeable was that all the dogs stopped barking (morning was usually a heavy barking time as dogs responded to morning human activity). The best part of the eclipse was actually the afterglow. I worked at City Hall so normally had our fair share of people unhappy about parking tickets, water bills or someone who encroached on whatever. On that day everyone seemed happy. There were smiles aplenty and it seemed like most conversations included confirming that the other person had also witnessed this rare event. After all these years I still remember the happiness of everyone.

Eclipses like this, are a very emotional/ spiritual experience. It brings us back to our humanity. To understanding how little we do control. How much we take for granted. I didn’t get much of an experience for this one in Idaho (in terms of totality). We had our totality experience back in 2017. It’s definitely my most favorite moment ever and I’m grateful I got to experience it at least once in my life. Now go forth and be grateful for everything …🦋😇 That’s the takeaway. As for the animals : I camped out in the wilderness and the stillness and the animals howls and chirps was surreal.

We were in the path as well and had almost four minutes of totality. It was stunning. The darkness was eerie, but very much felt worshipful. We were also watching our animals. We have four cows and only one reacted strangely. The ten month old bull calf began mooing and wailing and took off running toward the barn. He seemed scared. The rest of the animals seemed fine and unbothered. We are so thankful to have experienced such an incredible event.

Thanks you two for sharing the eclipse! It was beautiful, im in California. You and another friend posted from Kentucky! Also i wanted to say thank you for going to Berlin seed store the other day. I ordered my seeds from them because of Michelle's video on seed selections. I called and ordered my seeds and told them about you both and how you always talk about their seeds. They said they know you and see you come in and said you were nice. I thought that was so sweet! Question for Michelle. So my seedling are doung better now, but they did struggle for a bit. First i was using bad seed holders, to small. They got dried out to quick and my plants were not growning. So i used bigger pots and also did some other ways of putting seeds in pots. I was frustrayed with ky tomatoes, they were not germinating very good. So i just out some soil in a cup and threw a bunch of seeds. Now i have lots of small tomatoes plants. Have to up pot soon. I did get a late start it is still snowing her this last week. I just have potatoes and carrots in. Not planting tomatoes or peppers till may. Wanted to know how often you water your seedlings. I am bottom watering now and just gave them fertilizer. Please let me know how often you water as i think i am watering too much. I do have a new rack and lights coming so it will be much easier. I plan on growing my greens indoors during winter. Thanks

Really niceit got darker like when the sun is setted but it was not total darkness .I wish I could have experience it but , it is what it is! I saw Morgan's video first, your notification came back later! I took pictures with my phone but they looked nothing liwhat I was seeing! Thanks for sharing guys ! Blessings!

I rolled my ankle the other day as well, thank God i dont roll them as much as i used to, just a few times a year now but i used to roll em a few times a week! Sadly we had mountain to mountain clouds here so i couldn't even see the tiny partial eclipse.

When I was in middle school in the early 90s a couple hours south of your farm we had a total solar eclipse (but I'm sure you guys are to young to remember that) then I saw another one in Colorado 7 or 8 or so years ago. Can't wait for one to happen in California next which won't happen till 2045 so I might get to see it as an old man if I can live that long.

Love the channel! You guys are awesome. I see this channel growing greatly in the future. I'd love to live a life similar to yours one day. I'm 17 right now. I travel out of states doing commercial electrical work. I enjoy it greatly but I'm not sure what to do. I want to have my own farm with live stock and become self sustainable. I already have some knowledge. Before working I would put out gardens, raise my animals for meat, preserve my food. Unfortunately now I feel that my responsibilities have fallen on my parents as I don't have the time I once did. Without the help I couldn't provide for the animals, and certainly couldn't put out a garden. I'm looking for genuine advice because I don't want to make a bad decision. I know electrical is a wonderful trade. I'd love to hear a suggestion!

Hey Drey, thanks for reaching out! My only advice would be just do the next thing that comes to you as well as you can. Don't stress too much about the future. Doors will open for you when you're ready. In the meantime, keep learning! Working hard at your current job will give you great habits to keep working hard once you start homesteading. Good luck!
