Rest day shenanigans - Africa Eco Race

World record in sleeping achieved! An epic 13 hours in my tent was clearly needed for my rejuvenation, following the first week of racing. The brutalities of endurance racing was warmly welcomed by rest day on my desert rally racing adventures heading for Dakar Senegal in the Africa Eco Race.
Rest day involved taking on as much good nutrition as possible with my @U-Perfom active collagen, whey and collagen protein powder along with various other protein bars, and shakes scattered across the day.
The girls didn’t cease to give me banter, entertainment, food, supplies and muscle rubs. My highlight was jumping in the Land Rover Bowler Defender 90 with Keri and Anika to find a place to go for a dip into the Atlantic Ocean. It wasn’t the most beautiful of beaches, there was probably more garbage than sand, but the icy cold water felt incredible on my muscles, and it was a great change of scene from vibrating on a motorbike.
To finish off an ace rest day I had an incredible steak dinner on the seafront in Dakhla, the huge lump of protein rich cow went down really well. My favorite bit was having to eat it with my fingers because the eco-friendly bamboo cutlery wasn’t quite strong enough to cut it; still a much better choice than plastic.
Very big smiles all round and feeling ready to get back in the saddle. Rest day is over. Bring on day 7.

A well deserved rest day Vanessa, not so much for your crew who were hard at it getting ready for the next days. A dip in the water was a good one for the muscles though, getting them moving with support and stretching can really help. The cold water allegedly helps no end giving a reset to all sorts of things in the body. Back in my day this would have been a down the pub for a gallon of Guinness followed by a spicy curry and a great nights sleep but things move one for the better. A hot curry is not always ideal for a long days bike riding the following day. You loose time for the unplanned bio breaks. Looking forward to the next instalment.
