I now work in construction around Asia, mostly Japan and China. I am risk taker and a dividend investor, My wife and I have invested in the S&P500, both through my TSP with the government, and through fidelity in her 401-k. Cashed out 270k from the S&P and invested with a Fin-Planner, MonicaMary Strigle.

Until around 3 years ago we were 100% in the s&p after over 30 years. I’m retiring at the end of this month at 62, while my wife will retire next year at 60. Under Monica, I bought Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Cardano during 2022. I got 173% gains in 2023. I expect more in 2024 there other speculative assets including shorting the Chinese Index 2wks ago.

Whether military or GS I have seen SGLI, TSP, and private insurance go to the divorced spouse multiple times. Know who is on your plans.

Great videos! Question: If my spouse is a Federal employee, can she move my TSP to her TSP? Or does it have to be move to an IRA?

Two things I wish you would’ve mention. First how do you remove a beneficiary? I’m assuming it’s possible since you said “keep your beneficiaries updated”. Second, for those that for whatever reason don’t designate a beneficiary what happens to their monies if they suddenly drop dead? Thanks.
@bigblue35689 ай бұрын
TSP..gov to make changes.. If no beneficiary it goes... spouse, then kids if no kids, then your parents if no parents, then admin of estate if none, then next of kin according to your state laws. If you have a beneficiary designated such as ex spouse who cheated on you with the plumber and they are still listed then no matter what your surviving family does they still get the account and there is nothing they can do to stop it. So do you own plumbing work.

@@bigblue3568 So if no beneficiary it goes to spouse, what’s the point of assigning one? (Assuming that’s who I want to go in the first place)
@jimm17388 ай бұрын
You do not remove a beneficiary. You simply fill out a new form TSP-3, and that totally cancels the old beneficiary form. The new beneficiary form is now in effect.

I'm filling out my USPS blue book now? Why do they want to know about any workers comp that I've received during my career? Does it deduct from my eligibility time? I'm at my MRA with 35 years of combined service.

Beneficiary is listed as wife. I die, money in TSP goes to her. She has to decide between keeping $ in TSP or rolling it over to her IRA. She wants our kids to receive $. Is there any advantage or disadvantage of her keeping $ in TSP vs in her IRA?

Thanks for the informative video! One quick question: I designated my spouse as my sole TSP beneficiary before we were married. Do I need to update my beneficiary form to reflect our new marital status?
@jimm17388 ай бұрын
Yes. Send in a new TSP-3 form. Look at the latest annual TSP statement where beneficiaries are named. If the relationship is listed as "other", get that corrected to "spouse". This would allow her to take over your account if you pass away, and not be forced to transfer the TSP funds to an IRA if she desires. Also come up with contingent beneficiaries in case you both die in the same accident.
@ralphgeiger96628 ай бұрын
Thank you! Will do.

Hi.! If naming two beneficiaries and their corresponding percentages are not equal - can you identify who gets the Roth following by the remainder in traditional and the 2nd person getting just traditional ? If not, then how does the TSP dole out the Roth and the Traditional to two beneficiaries when their percentages are not equal.

If you die it goes to the wife, she keeps in in the TSP. She dies can it than go to the disable child ?
@sx28829 ай бұрын
I was told a trust should be considered for a disabled child, whether a minor or adult, with a guardian you can trust, and separate from an executor of the trust, also someone you can trust. However the trust must be written the way you want to protect your child.
@jimm17388 ай бұрын
She needs to contact TSP after you pass and get the account in her name if she is 100% primary beneficiary. She then fills out her TSP beneficiary form when she transfers the TSP account to her name.

@@pianotalent I agree you don’t ever know. But you have to do your due diligence. Never ever fall in love with anything until you know they’re right for you.
