It’s every pilot’s nightmare-and on January 8, 1989, it happened on Midlands Flight 92 as both of its engines seemingly failed at the same time. Minutes later, the plane slammed into an embankment next to a highway.

I thought the title said: What Happens when Both Engines fall on a Passenger? Easy: they're dead... but you have to have a special kind of luck to have 2 engines fall on top of you.

Not always, there have been instances where aircraft have lost all engines and survived. For example the Gimli Glider, the B747 flight that lost all four engines due to volcanic dust. There are a few other instances too.

I've seen this in seconds from disaster, but mayday discovers 2 additional flaws on this plane, the passenger seat design and their brace positions. True they did turn off the wrong engine similar to Transasia flight 235, but in midland flight 92's case, several people died because the floors on some passengers seats weren't strong enough to withstand the impact and some weren't able to brace the impact and suffered serious injuries from loose seats.

some passengers noticed the fire on the left engine but never told the crew that they turned off the wrong engine. so for me it's not fully pilot's fault because the displays were new so they struggle to read the information.

Even if the pssengers knew the pilot turned off the wrong engine.. by the time they could have called the crew and explained that to them ( and then for the crew to go back to the pilots and explain it to them ) would still have done nothing to avert this disaster.

I was on a plane about six years ago where both engines failed. Thankfully it happened on the runway and mere minutes before we were cleared for take off! But to have it happen in the air and then this?! 😰 I cannot imagine the terror the passengers and Pilots felt. It was a miracle there were even survivors from this terrible accident. RIP Everyone who was killed.

Title is wrong - both engines did not fail. Pilots switched the wrong one off = it crashed = people died. Title needs correcting.
@were-all-human9427
@were-all-human9427 Жыл бұрын
@Perth Aviation Connections the title READS "both engines failed" and as we BOTH say, the pilots shut the wrong engine down - the good engine, the one they switched off, did NOT fail - so the title IS wrong. Hey but that's just the English as I read it.
@lexusdriver1963
@lexusdriver1963 Жыл бұрын
The pilots think that the right engine failed so they shut down the right engine but in reality it's the left engine that has the problem because the left engine fan blade broke and the engine started choking. When the pilots apply power to the left engine that's when they realize the left engine is the real problem not the right engine and the pilots tried to restart the right engine but they're out of time and the crash was inevitable.

I know nothing about this but as soon to be engineering graduate I would guess there should be plenty of measuring instruments that should show very clearly which engine is doing poorly. This seems like a massive failure but maybe it's more complicated.

As a British person, I'm shocked to see that the 737's planes produced a boneshaking rattle throughout the cabin. It's truly chilling and makes my hair stand up from my head!!

I saw it before season of British midland 🇬🇧 92, after cruising altitude 35 thousand feet, after takeoff 🛫 in the flight ✈️ there’s a surge number 2 engine and number 1 engine struggling to attempt to landing and it’s too late to land, few people are alive but many there injured 🤕 including captain crew👨‍✈️ is broken spine. (British 🇬🇧 Government are preparing to investigate 🔬 plane ✈️ crash 💥)

The honest question is. The investigation part highlight after shutting off Engine 2 (The Wrong Engine) due to different readings confusing the pilots compared to the older 737's the plane was stable... The answer was Why? I mean it's understandable that increasing Engine One (The Burning Engine) would causing the vibrations. But why after turning off engine 2 the plane was normal that is what I'm trying to ask while the investigation part of the video not published (As of 27/9/22)

When the pilots pulled the thrust off of Engine 2 they first had to disable Autothrottle which means Engine 1 (the damaged one) experienced less fuel flow right when they pulled back Engine lever Nr 2. It was an additional misinformation that added to the pilots confusion over the right engine to shut down making them sure they shut down the correct one, which was not the case.

bit like that BA flight at Heathrow when both engines really did fail due to fuel starvation (blocked not run out)- that cpt was a true hero, realised he had to use flaps, missing the fence, smashed into sound ground. Then BA treated him like CRAP. I have his bio book on subject. BA are a disgrace. Hung him out to dry. Total opposite to how USA treated that US Cpt that had that famous water landing in NYC.
