My adult daughter, who has disabilities, got separated from me. I, being a totally cool mom, handled it with aplomb…. I PANICKED! I ran around searching and calling her name, and hyperventilating. Found a cast member who sat me down and said they’d find her. Fortunately, my daughter was wearing a princess dress (folks with disabilities are allowed to wear them, bless Disney’s heart!) so that made it much easier for her to be found. She’d been crying and cast members bought her French fries and a soda and reassured her that I’d be found soon. So when I came rushing up, all I got was “ hi, mom. I have new friends that bought me fries.” LOL. Those cast members will always be in my prayers.

give her a walkie talkie please. Or a phone with texting if she has a hard time speaking that way she can get in touch with you if she gets lost AGAIN! They have Disney spesfic walkie talkies now so she could pick out one with Mini on it. (i think)

I think a lot of visitors to Disney often forget that not only does Florida get plenty of tropical storms, but random rain showers especially downpours are pretty normal down there.

Teach you little ones to look for Cast Member name tags when they get lost! The costume isn’t always the same, but the name tag almost always is, and that helps immensely. When I was a cast member I had a hard time helping a kid one time because he was so focused on stranger danger, that I had to follow him halfway across Disney Springs before I calmed him down long enough to walk back to Once Upon a Toy, where his mother was frantically talking to the merchandise CM there. I felt so badly for him, but I couldn’t help him until he let me

Yes! When my sister and I took my niece who was 9 at the time, we showed her what the cast members name tag looked like and that they were a safe person to be with if we ever got separated from her. Great reminder for folks!

Granted i put them on a pedestal and nostalgia/ childhood embellishment add to anything i could say.. i can imagine going back as an adult would bring interesting results. I fear trying to chase nostalgia and being disappointed, but the whole park is practically different now i could imagine id have a great time. Especially with a drink or 2 🤣

@@michaelklock422 My condolences for your father. For me, I spent time with my mom, the trip was a surprise from mom's friend. I remember enjoying the submarine, Tarzan's jungle, Cafe rainforest. I got on lots of rides at Disney, my clearest memory is the roller coster ride in the high mountain because I thought it was a slow ride but I got scared lol. I remember I also went to Universal and Sea World. Back then there were no smartphones or apps. I don't remember but I'm sure that perhaps the tickets were still printed before everything went digital. I don't have the budget (I just graduated from college and been doing short gigs and internships). But if I had to the chance to see Disney World, I will definitely look forward to the food in dining and drinks, just seeing the pictures looks so delicious, haha. As for rides, I'd definitely check out Star Wars rides and build a robot. I've been into sci-fi and robots recently. Honestly the Disney today is so different from what I remember, especially with reliance with smartphones and app interactions. I've been binge watching Disney videos on KZbin.

It’s so weird to say it, but honestly “misplaced parent/caregiver” situations were some of my favorite guest interactions when I was a CM. Once we were able to calm the child down and reassure them that the lost adult was nearby and we’d find them in no time, it was always so much fun to find ways to entertain them in the meantime. Literally cast would ‘fight’ over the chance to watch over them lol - I worked in the very under appreciated Dinoland and boy oh boy did those kids love getting all the backstory and details behind the Institute and Chester&Hester’s 🥰 Also baby care is the 💣 love that place, so quiet and relaxing in there and a great resource if you have kids, period.

South Floridian here! Crocs has sneakers now! They’re really comfy and great for rain (just bring extra socks!). Also, ALWAYS bring several ziplocks with you. I generally have a few gallon sized and a few sandwich sized. This also helps with saving snacks for later. Disposable ponchos are also a godsend in the parks, since they fold up pretty small, compared to umbrellas. Most athletic wear is moisture wicking, so it should dry pretty quickly. Unfortunately, going to the parks during summer is all about survival and there’s not a lot of room for looking cute or being minimalistic 😂.

Central Floridian here! The rain has been especially intense for the past week or so, definitely above average. It rarely rains before noon, so mornings are your best chance to stay dry. I can be critical of Disney for many things, but they are superstars when it comes to helping out during a hurricane. They helped everyone in the resort to figure out meals (because obviously you can't just pop in to a sit down). They had characters show up in the lobby on a pretty regular basis. When we talked to a cast member they said they volunteered because the hotels are on generators so she knew she would have power throughout the storm. And they made sure there was plenty to keep the kids occupied. On a personal note-- I have never seen glass bend until I was trapped in that hurricane.

We stayed at the Contemporary in June 2013, mainly because our kids were young at the time (2,5,7) and we wanted to be able to walk to Magic Kingdom. I went to WalMart on I Drive one afternoon to pick up some supplies. It started storming while I was checking out. I looked at the radar to see a huge red blob that just blew up and stayed parked over central Florida. After hoping in vain that it would die down, I ran to the van through six inches of water (drainage couldn’t keep up), loaded the groceries, and headed back into Disney World. Rather than drive straight to the Contemporary, I was stuck in heavy traffic that was being diverted around the north side of Magic Kingdom because the underpass below the canal between Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon was flooded. It took two hours to get back to the resort. Instead of the relaxing break we planned before a reservation at Liberty Tree Tavern, I had barely enough time to rush up to the room with perishable items, change out of my soaked shoes and socks, and drag the family through the rain (not as intense by this time) into Magic Kingdom and back to Liberty Square. Having just made it by our reservation time, we ended up waiting 45 minutes to be seated. It was not our most enjoyable meal, but we ended up having fun in the park, and the rest of the trip was great.

Just wanting to share this tip for caretakers of little ones or disabled persons. Don't put a temporary tattoo or other signifier on your child that has the person's name. This isn't necessarily safe. Phone numbers only, and have them listed as "Mom," "Dad," or whomever. As a parent of a child with a disability, I have a wristband with both parents' telephone numbers as well as a notice that reads "nonverbal autism, limited speech." (I got ones printed from Alert Me Bands, which has really given me peace of mind when going to unfamiliar or crowded places.) And yes, Disney is *fantastic* at reuniting "lost parents." I've seen them in action, and it's always the parents in tears and the kids having a grand time with the CMs. ;)

Use a child leash (harness) when at these extremely busy places. My folks had one for us in the 60s when we visited Disneyland. It's not going to give impact the kid mentally for the relatively short amount of time you'll be using it.

My first day of work during my Disney College Program…I had a lost kid! Well he wasn’t lost. His mom was lol. I was able to reunite them quickly. I also was working at a merchandise store and a guest forgot his wallet right there on the counter. It was stuffed with $5k in CASH! I notified my manager and I walked the wallet myself to guest relations. An hour later the guest with the lost wallet came back frantic and I was able to tell him that I was the one who found it and it was safe at guest relations :). Things happen all the time! I worked on Dinosaur and people would forget anything from expensive cameras to medications on the rides.

Many years ago, I worked in Orlando. One day all the theme parks had to close.... Because it was very COLD. Like 20 degrees. So from November to April the temperature can also get cold. So those precautions will need to be taken. So the biggest hint for all of this is check the weather for the week of your trip and plan accordingly. If it's going to be hot or wet or cold.

I will never forget a trip we took with my husband and almost 3 year old son. Did he get lost, no thank goodness. But my husband had a generic black and yellow backpack we used as a diaper bag. Funnily enough another young little girl a bit older that our son thought our bag was her Dad’s bag and attached herself to it. Would not let go. My husband whispered what do I do? I said stay still lets see if we can find her family. We looked around and couldn’t see anyone who seemed to be missing her. So I left my husband, son and lost little girl. Grabbed a crew member and they helped us get her to a spot to help find her family. Luckily all ends well, we found her dad and he did have a very similar backpack.

I remember years ago waiting outside for a dinner reservation at Akershus in Epcot. Rain started falling and the loose crowd outside gathered inside the Norway Pavilion gift shop for shelter. After 10 minutes we were packed in like sardines among the $400 Helly Hansen jackets and it was stifling for the 20 minutes we were stuck in there before our reservation time came up.. Ankle deep? Ha! In early March, we got stuck in the UK pavilion at Epcot for hours, waiting for the rain to lighten up a little (I mean, I'd have loved to tough it out and go on open rides, but I'm not the only vote in the party :) ). We finally had to leave when the store closed, and we waded through almost-KNEE-DEEP water through the International Gateway to Beach Club. That spot is a valley and a water trap. We tried hard to find pictures or videos anyone else might have taken of that flood spot, but we couldn't find any, so we've never been able to prove how deep that water was, but believe me, I was washing my legs up to the knee later on that night.

Back in August 2019, my wife and I made a literal last-minute DVC reservation so we could see the Epcot Fountain of Nations one last time. And then we found out a hurricane would be possibly hitting Orlando during the visit. We usually drive to WDW, a two-day trip with an overnight stay in Chattanooga. We decided to make a final decision there, and much to our relief we found out the hurricane was going elsewhere. So somewhere around Macon we made a phone call to DVC and managed to switch from Saratoga to Boulder Ridge (yay!). Moreover, about two minutes after checking in, my wife grabbed my arm and yelled “GALAXY’S EDGE IS OPEN!” The upshot was that we got to see it without a huge crowd present and had a great time. The night the bad weather hit, it was really cool to see all the activities the cast members had arranged in the Wilderness atrium. A good time was had by all!

I will give a shout out to the Disney cast members for a lost item scenario. I lost a (non-Disney) plush item in the Hall of Presidents. While waiting for the current showing to end, they helped me look for the item in nearby locations. After the current showing ended, the cast then held the next showing while we (yes, they let me assist in the search) canvased the auditorium. The item was found wedged between and under two seats and returned to me, and the Hall of Presidents re-opened. Needless to say, I made sure those cast members (three operators and one security) were recognized by Disney Guest Relations. They even let me take a photo of them holding the "rescued" item.

My daughter's solution to the problem was to simply take off her shoes and wade barefoot in the water to save her shoes from getting soaked. I kept my shoes on and it took them 2 days to dry out, even though I put them in the dryer for 40 minutes. We were staying in a one-bedroom DVC villa. I had to dry our clothes, my shoes, and my Loungefly backpack, but I didn't put the backpack in the dryer. Riding an ECV in torrential rains is messy for sure. To watch the day go from bone-dry to flood-level was kind of a neat experience, though. I would suggest carrying a plastic bag large enough to hold anything you want to keep dry. It should fold up small enough to carry in your park bag without being a problem.

Question 🙋‍♀️ What’s the protocol if you’re “sheltering in place” at somewhere like Pop Century (or value resorts in general) where most of the rooms don’t even have microwaves and none of the rooms are attached to the lobby/restaurant? Not being sarcastic, I’m sure there’s a system for these hotels too, as they host thousands of families. If you know, please share.

I know some resorts sell hurricane meal kits in the days leading up to landfall for guests to buy and take back to their rooms. They usually don't require heating.

When I was a GSM at the BoardWalk, we had a main water pipe break. The worst flooding I ever saw at Disney.

My family went to watch the showing of enchantment on August 31 and we ended up standing in over 5 inches of water that night because we couldn’t get out of the crowds and ended up just watching it through our ponchos. Awful experience for my feet and because we all kind of got sick after, but it’s certainly a memory that we will keep with us forever!

When my kids were little I would stick a "Hi my name is" sticker on the inside of their back side shirttail with all the contact information, IE phone # hotel, Parents names. They also were instructed to find someone with a name tag and tell them we were lost. I also dressed them in the brightest clothes (Red, Yellow and orange)

When my son was about 6-7 years old, he got really sick all of a sudden while we were at Liberty Tree Tavern. He barely made it upstairs where there were only 2-3 stalls and couldn’t hold it any longer. He threw up all over the bathroom sink. Ever since then, we joke that there is a wanted poster in the restaurant with his picture on it lol. Poor kid was so sick we had to miss the Very Merry Christmas party that night. After that we always got him a flu shot and he didn’t get sick on a trip again. I now get them too after throwing up on the side of Disney roads. Lost a day in bed and was so upset. I highly recommend a flu shot for anyone hopping on an airplane to get there. Been a total trip saver for years now.

My Dad and I got separated towards the front of Hollywood Studios two years ago. There was weirdly no cell service, so we were just walking around in circles. My dad found some cast members and they assumed they were looking for a little kid. When I rolled up finally, they were not expecting a 25 year old! 😂 Huge credit to them for keeping my dad calm though 😂

I have a cousin whose trip a few years ago was interrupted by a hurricane. He & his wife chose to ride out the duration of the hurricane at their resort and Disney (reportedly) provided food for them. My girlfriend, her mom, my mom & I made the 650 mile drive from Tennessee last September. About 60 miles from Disneyworld, we hit a heavy rainstorm and the windshield wipers were on high when they stopped working due to a broken linkage. We made it the rest if the way with a few light showers and found it cheaper to have a mobile mechanic come to the resort rather than using Disney's car care center. The only downside is having to cut into park days to meet the mechanic. My girlfriend fell sick at Magic Kingdom one afternoon and just wanted to go back to the resort. It was no problem to stop by the first aid center and get a wheelchair to get her back to the parking lot at the TTC via the monorail. I was told to just leave the wheelchair in a designated area and someone would puck it up later.

I always told the little kids I've taken to the parks if they don't see me to go straight up to a castmember. I showed them the name tags to know who a castmember is. I also keep an eye open for lost kids and have helped more than one get back with a parent or castmember.

Several years before COVID, my kids and I noticed that after a day at a park, at least one of us came down with some bug. We started using hand sanitizer regularly and no more gunk. Luckily, that meant when COVID hit we already had a big supply.

We lost our 10yo mickey plush at Epcot. I was devastated because I bought it when my firstborn was in my belly. DISNEY FOUND AND MAILED IT BACK TO ME within weeks. I was so blown away that a mickey plush made its way back to us. If I had to pick a place to lose an item it would be in Disney. TO ALL WHO WEAR FLIP-FLOPS TO DISNEY! TAKE NOTE lols I bought crocs a few months ago and they completely changed my Disney experience between comfort and dry shoes. Catch me tap dance singing in the rain with my $4 Coleman poncho, and then changing into fresh socks that i tucked in my bag asa the rain stops. You'll feel like a pro! Seriously if you are going to Orlando April-October expect it to rain once a day.

My Iphone fell out of my bag on the skyliner on the last night of our vacation. It was a few minutes before I realized it and went back to talk to the attendant. He said all I could do was fill out a form and submit it online. Luckily I had my iPad back in our room. I set my phone to lost mode then tracked it to the skyliner hub where I talked to a manager who was able to give me my phone back. Thank goodness for modern technology.

Got stuck in a downpour at universal twice in the same place honestly kinda hilarious and now believe that we should never go there again. Second time which was this year we nearly sat inside ( I wish we had of my dad who suggested outside never heard the end of it) my mom used a wheelchair I was sat with a umbrella over me trying to keep it dry but ultimately moved because the umbrella was no match for Florida rain we ended up walking out the park in the rain once it began to calm brought a towel and a shirt for myself from the shop and got an Uber to the shopping mall and brought whole new outfit each and changed
