Tyler did say when introducing the video that even though it’s based on the moment from the show, he really tapped into his own emotions and experience with recently losing his grandma. It’s so beautiful.
@hio.hinomaru21Ай бұрын
And, it's somewhat triple entendre, the song eventho specifically talk about the Arcane's Viktor lore and Tyler's memory with her Nana, but if you look at it using the perspective of the Clique, it also talks about how Clancy has the potential to be Bishop, and if he does become one, there'll be people who'll "disappointed" in him, and there'll be people who'll support his decision, with the underline that he'll try to do better than the "control freak" Bishops before him. ....... that if he crossed The Line.

Here is fragment of interview with Maria Egan (from Riot Games): “What happens with Arcane is that we shall get sent some animatics or rough storyboards and there will be a temp track attached to it. I won’t say what the temp track was, but it was a song that immediately made me think that Tyler Joseph has to write this. The moment was designed for this band. We have great relationships with managers and labels, and we knew that Tyler was a fan of the show and that they wanted to do something with us. We went to their manager, Chris Woltman, and I just said, ‘Look, we have the perfect scene for him. Would he consider doing it?’ He never really writes for anything else, but he loves the show so they wanted to see it and we sent it over. Literally three days after he got the scene, we got the song back. In a lot of the cases, with ‘Arcane’, we have four or five artists try something and try a completely different energy. But when that one came in it was like, ‘Okay, well, that’s it’.”

Tyler said this song is about his grandma in an interview before the video was released - he was in the room with her when she died apparently and said that changed his life (he also mentions her in navigating when he talks about everybody leaving) - similar to how Heathens was about the fanbase, but also worked with the movie there are also some theories that this ties into Clancy possibly crossing over to becoming a bishop - and this could sort of be a teaser into that being the conclusion of the story

arcane is *unparalleled.* i am a monogamous stan, i like *one* thing for about six years at a time. but i watched arcane to have full context for this song and not only do you get 200% more out of it upon a rewatch because the storytelling is so complex and tight, but people are so right to call it one of the best animated series of all time and one of the highest rated shows netflix has ever hosted. i'm not asking you to react to it, but do not deprive yourself of this body of work. you don't need to know anything about the game and the series is complete as of its (recently aired) second and final season. it's gold, gentlemen.

Tyler was in the room when his grandmother passed away, and that changed something in him. I see this as a letter to his grandmother. When it's his turn to pass, will he join her in Heaven? Will he have lived a life that made her proud? Arcane is set in a dystopian Steampunk world with the Topsiders and undercity dwellers. It's the classic dystopian class division with haves and have nothings. We meet people from both societies. There are tensions, science experiments gone awry, battles, infighting, political intrigue, power dynamics, romances, parent-child dynamics, triumphs and losses, joy and anguish, sibling bonds, hope and despair, etc etc etc. I binge watched both seasons in 2 days after I heard The Line for the first time.

First of all, this song and video are absolutely beautiful and can be interpreted in many different ways. I know that this was written for Arcane, however it is odd that it only took Tyler 3 days to have it fully done. It makes me wonder if maybe he already started writing this to honor his grandmother and possibly use it as part of the continuation of the lore. It’s kind of crazy to me that the synth at the end of the Paladin Strait video when Tyler opens his eyes sounds a lot like the beginning of this song. I have also heard of a theory that has been swirling around about Clancy becoming a Bishop and it’s pretty convincing if this song has anything to do with the lore since it mentions crossing over, facing fears, and mentions of disappointing someone (the banditos?). Another reason I think this could relate to that theory is because of the letters that were recently found during the tour at the FPE exhibit. There was a message from those letters that read: “We must destroy them, or we will become them, and if we become them, we must do better”.
