old guy commenting again.... grew up in Milwaukee, mom and dad ran a tavern until I was 7 years old (1957).... Mom did fish fry every friday night for the tavern and sometimes also did (Sea) Crabs... 5 gal buckets full.... as a little kid I loved them, Mom would boil em and for "me" she would crack the top off that main shell...add a little cocktail sauce and I would dive right in to the parts you just threw away... BTW she served fish fry ---- 2 big Haddock fillets, fries, and cole slaw with a big glass of Pabst Blue Ribbon for $1.25.......just a beer and a shot was 25 cents.... 1950-57 the good old days.......

Same and the high tide was great at that last spot. I'm just not sure where they was at. Then again, it didn't get there until like 3pm, so many they were running in the early morning.

Hey Ranel, I'm planning a trip to Galvestion to go crabbing. I've never eaten blue crabs, and after watching a bunch of KZbin videos a bout catching and cooking blue crab, my mouth is watering. Here's the problem. I'm obviously not from Galveston. Heck, I'm not even from Texas, but after paying the exorbitant prices for non-resident fresh water fishing, salt water fishing, and a crabbing endorsement, I want a successful trip. Can you tell me which is the best month for crabbing, and where am I likely to be successful at catching big blue crabs?
@TheFishAndTrips
@TheFishAndTrips 9 ай бұрын
Yeah, I still haven't had any look since winter and still waiting for the waters to warm up to the 80s consistently for them to come out of hibernation. Warmer water temps and also crabbing during a high tide as well. I'm part of a Facebook group called Texas Blue crabbers where I'll be finding all the spots to try. Here's the post they have pinned for newbies to the group. From EZ Crabbing - great info for families! Reposting this with more crabbing 🦀locations. Summer is a great time to take family and kids out to crabbing. Below are tips on crabbing with kids. You also can skip down to a list of kids friendly crabbing locations. Feel free to share your own tips or crabbing places in the comment below. Tips on crabbing with kids Keep it simple. Don’t over burden with a lot of equipment and stuffs Keep it short. A few hours of crabbing might be enough for them. If you are lucky, stay longer if they ask. Don’t force them to stay longer than they want. Make it fun. Make it less frustrating. Not everyone has the patience or good at crabbing with chicken on hand line and dip net method. Topless traps are an easy and frustration-free way to catch crabs. Enjoy the experience. Enjoy the family time; catching crabs is a bonus. Don’t be disappointed if you did not catch any crab. Let kids be kids. They might find something other than catching crab interesting. My daughter was fascinated by the hermit crabs that we caught. My son enjoyed “walking” a baby crab with a string. Let them explore. Make it a teachable moment. For example, teach them the difference between male and female crabs. Show them little fish swimming by. Teach them about conservation. In TX, don’t keep undersized crab (under 5 inch point to point) or female crabs with sponge (eggs). It is unlawful but for a good reason to maintain crab population for them and future generations. Teach them to respect nature. Don’t pollute. Clean up after crabbing. And if you are willing, bring extra trash bags to pick up nearby trash. Keep crabbing places clean and beautiful so we and our kids can enjoy. Keep it safe. Watch out for snakes or alligators if you see warning signs. Keep your eyes on them. Nothing ruins fun quicker than an accident. Bring sunscreen and bug spray. TX mosquitoes 🦟are big enough to carry off your kid. Make it a picnic. Feed them. Bring plenty of drinks and snacks. Here are some kids friendly places: Bayside park, 1000 2nd St, Seabrook, TX 77586 Clear Lake Park, Seabrook, TX 77586 Oyster Creek Municipal Park, Farm to Market Road 523, Oyster Creek, TX Bastrop Bayou Public Fishing Area, County Road 476, Freeport, TX Surfside Boat Launch, 1415 Monument Dr., Surfside Beach, TX 77541 Christmas Bay, TPWD Ramp, 515 Amigo Ln, Freeport, TX 77541 Highland Bayou Park, 1991 Getty Rd, La Marque, TX 77568 Lee & Joe Jamail Bay Park, 1600 61st St, Galveston, TX 77551 Galveston State Park On the east side of Galveston, along the North Jetty, 802 17th St, Port Bolivar, TX 77650 Texas City Dike, Texas City, any fishing piers on the left side as you enter the dike. Salt Lake Fishing Area, Freeport, TX 77541 🦀🦀🦀Take the family to crabbing. Be a hero. Create a lifetime memory 🦀🦀🦀 Have Fun. Good Luck. EZCrabbing.

Lots of good crab there, never found flounder though. Rat reds and gators can be found in that area. That ditch you went to 2nd seen 10+ footers there. 3rd spot has big gar and monster crab. Not far from there is the reserve, gorilla crab at salt lake. Drop the yak there and about a half a mile on the right shoreline is a ditch, holds flounder.
