My group just burns the character sheets of dead characters and save the ashes in Pringles cans. Rest in spaghetti never forgeti. Who could forget that time one of us died falling off a rock but was able to rewind time so that another player could shoot his clothing to stop the fall only to then die from the arrow that was meant to save him. Or the time we ventured through an entire dungeon and our elven ranger opened a chest and died instantly from a death needle. Good times. Now that I think about it the people I play with while not total murder hobos are just complete idiots and it's awesome.

If a character dies and you're a permanent GM, you should save the sheets somewhere the players will never look. Then once you've built up quite a collection of dead players, here are a few stories I've wanted to try out. Kill a demon in a 'good' plane that is unfairly torturing good souls. Travel to an 'evil' plane to rescue good souls sent there by accident. Perhaps a demon is using the souls of the evil plane they control to attack a good plane. Then for those good and evil souls, use the characters who were those respective alignments. I've been wanting to do something like this for so long, to watch the now seasoned players battle the first party they ever made, to fight against their characters they want forgotten, to remember the good times back when they had no clue what a saving roll was, and to remind them of past adventures they loved. Perhaps, for a feels trip, bring back characters made by someone who left the group long ago.

When I was little I wanted to play D&D with my older brothers and their friends, but they didnt want me to play; after our mother told them to let me play just one time, they made me a character, then immediately killed them in the very first encounter just two minutes after we started to play, cut off his head, and carried it around with them for the rest of the campaign as I cried in my room. That was my first D&D experience.

*pushes up glasses, straightens pocket protector* actually Vikings quite often pillaged and colonized the Scottish shoreline. Meaning that, the Viking funeral could have quite conceivably been witnessed to the hum and drone of the great pipes on more than a few occasions.

*straightens bow tie* now listen here! it is indeed fact that vikings raided scottish shore lines and indeed the bagpipes where used even before 1000 BC, but this is greek and sumerian origin! the first recorded use of scottish bag pipes was from 1547 at the battle of pinkie cleugh! And even then, Alba an àigh was written in 1950! dont you dare challenge me to a nerd-off!

I usually GM with destiny points. At the moment we create a character, the player has to roll a d4 -1. Wich gives the number of times his/her deity is willing to step up and bring him/her back from the deads.of course, destiny points cant be used for suicidal/totally reckless characters (unless their god wants them to)

Probably my favorite video you have made. After seeing online horror stories, I wanted to explain to my characters, "no, don't get it twisted. If you engage in risky behavior, the consequence is usually making a new character." Do not count on getting resurrected with no setback or complication like it's nothing. Death matters. And your party may get tpk'd in the process. So for me this is a great, concise, apt, and humorous resource to start the conversation. ✌🏼🧡

*nathan laleff* Well then you get to experience death, probably excruciatingly painful, only to reawaken and realise you don't even get this final escape from all that suffering. Slowly loosing purpose and sense of self until there is nothing recognisable left of you to send to an afterlife and perhaps even then you will be trapped going mad and hungering. In time your body is so burned out, broken and withered that you are unable to come back any more, but If you are unlucky enough to endure, you will end up being unable to find death again. Slowly as your body dries out and goes brittle you will eventually go stiff and unable to move. Perhaps even then your hollowed mind persists, lost, broken, trapped.

When my group plays and a character dies the player must handover their sheet to the DM, which then the DM proceeds to rip it up as everyone else chants the death chant. Which goes; The hero has fallen, They're now gone and dead, We never play the dead again, Or their death would be in vain, We never play the dead again, They're now dead and gone, Give yourself to Death as we sing this morbid song. Yea my group is an odd bunch ( but that includes me as well).

My people are really attached to their characters and I'm planning a long term story so I came up with a system where if they fail the death rolls they roll a d20 and based on that roll and the context they lose equipment, get a stat debuff, and have to be carried around by the group until you find a qualified healer like a doctor or a city priest. There's also a slim chance they end up with a badass scar that adds two to intimidate checks.

In the campaign I'm currently doing with friends, when we die, one of our party members has a special object (I don't remember if it's an official artefact in D&D or custom) that lets you burn it's pages to reincarnate someone on the go in a new random race or outright resurect them. although the one in our party who ends up needing it the most cannot take the second option because every time his body is already mashed potatoes at this point.

My second ever D&D experience was fifteen minutes long. I was playing with no party, just my friend as DM, and I was using a pre-made character sheet. This was a long time after my first experience and I’d watched a lot of KZbin videos of D&D campaigns, so I had an inkling if what I was doing. I thought I was playing pretty smartly. I’d bought some beer and saved it to use as wound disinfectant later (wasn’t sure how serious/realistic of a DM my friend was) and I was planning on robbing a guy’s house later, but first I had to go check out some castle ruins. I tried to inspect the area, and rolled really low. So I walked up to the gates, and a giant worm creature burst out of the ground! I rolled low initiative, so it got the first turn. Then I rolled a low saving throw. Since I was using a pre-made character, I had one HP. My armor class of 8 didn’t save me.

It would be really cool if when you go to the afterlife, the only way to get your body back and return to the world of the living is by surviving individual trials for each of the outer plains and you’re only given minimal stats along with minimal gear quality, and once you clear the last trial, you get to choose a method of resurrection along with where you are resurrected as long as it doesn’t kill or harm any living thing in the process. I really don’t know what I’m talking about, I’ve never even played D&D (wish I did though). I’ve really just been watching a lot of videos on it and it sounds like fun.

I'm just trying to find out where the lawful good plane is for my Oathbreaker. All he wants is to be reunited with his beloved princess, and he tried using necromancy to do so. He felt betrayed by Syr, as the murderers of his beloved princess were of his own kingdom(It was a revolt). The royal guards found him attempting his necrotic ritual and tossed him in the clink, with a death sentence over his head. He was tortured daily, until he escaped with a thief he had befriended. The thief didn't make it. He took an arrow to the back of the head. Belgretor, the newly born Oathbreaker, had no choice but to leave his friend behind. Abandoning his god, "To hells with it!" He exclaims. He snuck onto a ship, bearing only a cursed sword and shield, and the charm of his denounced god, which he hadn't a heart to toss away, to search for a way to revive his dearest and friend. "Such a thing would require a powerful mage, no? They surely must have the ability to change which plane they reside in." **This is where he meets with the other characters** TL;DR Got cucked by death

I have a house rule: LE are hard to resurrect because Satan ain't letting go of shit. You either sell your soul, find a willing substitute, or wager 2 or more souls in a gamble in addition to standard resurrection needs. Alternatively, summon the deceased character as an Imp & make them your familiar. Alternatively Alternatively, summon them as a Higher/Lower ranked Devil & use some kind of memory restoration spell/item to let them take full control of themselves. You'll probably need to apply these effects once a day, though...

House Rule at most of the games I attended, GM gets privilege to copy your character sheet(s), and (usually) returns the thing (minus inventory of course) so you can "recycle" for a "new character"... That part's usually just to save time, since no one wants to wait it out for you to completely generate something out of "scratch" to rejoin the campaign, and you don't want to "miss out"... The GM's privilege allows for the "regeneration" or "undeath" effects as the game might need/want(?) and for possible future NPC's... Character sheet collections are good for that. Sometimes, we would carry-over for PC's to go "wraith"... In this scenario, the deceased becomes a ghost, and the rest of the party has to figure out the pertinence while the GM is obliged to be vague and screw with everyone (deceased PC included)... It usually ended up in hilarity. Ghost PC's have to spend so much time and effort passing notes to the GM to interact with the game from "the other side" and literally nothing gets to the rest of the party un-scathed... So yeah, that's fun too (when done well)... lolz. :o)
