Ah. The funny thing is that roaches are one of the few animals that can survive a vacuum. For that reason they can be observed with an electron micrograph without actually killing them (since in order to view something with an electron micrograph that object must first be inserted into a vacuum).

I live in America too,and I've never seen a 16-ounce can. They're only ever 12 (regular) and 7.5 (mini). 16 ounces is a typical plastic bottle size, but those are growing to 24 now.
@Rahsinok8 жыл бұрын
The typical bottle size, from what I've seen, is 20oz. 16oz is around but you usually only get those in 6 packs. Never seen a 24oz bottle. 16oz cans are not that common as most places don't sell them but they are becoming more frequent. 12oz cans are usually sold in the 12 or 24 packs and the smaller cans are usually sold as 6 packs. All my info is based on my own personal experiences and observations from living in multiple states.

Won't all the liquid ruin your pump?
@dutch_blades8 жыл бұрын
A typical vacuum chamber will have magnesium and/or calcium sulfate (sometimes with added cobalt chloride) to stop moisture in the air from destroying the rather expensive pump overtime. The soda doesn't have to physically get inside the pump in a liquid state to ruin it. Aerosoles or water vapor can do the trick as well.

To explode a can, you can either heat it up, as you said, or freeze it, as the expansion of ice crystals forming will usually rupture the can as well. Decreasing the pressure outside the can is like a 3rd non-standard option. lol
@greg773898 жыл бұрын
Decreasing the pressure outside of the can caused the dissolved gasses in the soda to come out of solution which is what caused the pressure buildup inside.

@RogerC538 жыл бұрын
It's possible that the increased pressure inside the can on the second attempt is not responsible for the can exploding. What about weakening of the pop top due to repeated pressure stress? Maybe if you simply ran the experiment repeatedly at the same temperature you'd get the can to pop. You need a control to make this truly scientific.

Some flat earthers going by the name the Apollo Detectives claim a fisher space pen ink cartridge would explode in a vacuum. They used this video to show the sprite can exploding, implying the brass cartridge of a fisher space pen would too. I think it is in the interest of science to test that idea. I'm betting the space pen cartridge doesn't explode in a vacuum.
