dude, you cant just plug a dvd reader into a nintendo switch and say "that'll do", you need one thats capable of reading those game disks and you need to be able to know that the disk drive is even exchanging information with the console in the first place

I think the limitations was the lack of drivers and the disc player itself, console discs are often illegible to typical dvd players and there wouldn't have been necessary drivers to run the disc anyways.

I think a better test would have been if you used a Blu-Ray disc reader since most of the formats you used would naturally not work inside a DVD player anyways.

This makes me think that an official external disk drive for the switch which could read gamecube disks and wii disks, that would also download a copy of the game on the disk so you could play it in hand held mode would have been a really good idea for Nintendo to do.

That would be A VERY great idea! But I dont think nitnendo would say "yes" tho because then ppl can steal wii games from a video game store and put them into thier switch disc drive accessory, and then put the disc back in the case, and the world acts like nothing ever happened because the guy who had the wii game when nobody was looking. Through I would DEFINITELY want that wii disc accessory for the switch and would beg mom so I can get it or buy it myself when I'm older. I have tons of wii games and I would LOVE to play galaxy on a switch. Since super mario 3D all stars was only produced for a month and is an extremely rare game to find nowadays. Even only 3 years later.

While I am unsure why this video was recommended to me, I'm even more unsure as to why there was an assumption that the Switch was somehow trying to read those discs. Just because the USB port was providing power to the drive doesn't mean that the Switch has a clue in hell what you've connected to it. You could plug that drive into a USB port on a power strip and it would STILL make noise when you put a disc in; that doesn't mean the power strip is trying to read it.

idk, if you know this but the switch is not only 1. not built to be able to read discs but 2. it definitely can't read any game through the USB port also, I'm not sure but I don't think the light indicates how long it reads it for I'm pretty sure it indicates how long it takes for the game to start spinning

I think very early versions of the switch (we're talking 2014-15) were gonna be backwards compatible with the 3DS. The main reason for that was probably that that version of the switch would've been two new consoles, a portable one and a home one that would've been able to work together in some way or something

Try a micro SD card loaded up with Xbox, PlayStation, etc games that can be saved to SD cards. That way you're not trying to use a DVD reader to read a game. (Still don't think that would work either, but it would have a higher CHANCE at a success rate)

The nintendo switch only loads from the internal slot, so an EXternal TRAY will never work. Although you may trick it into loading a card, if it mistakes it for a borrowed drive

I decided to watch for amusement because I know already none of these things would work, but even if it could work just plugging a drive into the Switch the one you have isn’t properly formatted to play games. You might get lucky popping that PS1 game into a CD player, some of them had additional voice acting files or their soundtrack that will play in CD players.

All the discs you used have protective coating that’s why the disk player couldn’t read them Also the switch USB ports basically only do power and no data The switch also has a special cartridge type If you want to run other software on the switch then use the micro sd card slot on the back of the switch under the pop up stand

The USB ports do Horipads though, but still a DVD player can't read the discs, and isn't even doing a single thing with the Switch except for obtaining power from it
