He probably says stuff, but only NPCs can hear it. Gordon is just a freshly made Ph.D. who got recommended by his mentor, professor Kleiner to work in Black Mesa. It just happens that he's also a combat prodigy with great aim (and magic of save/load game) to back him up and on his first day with real weapon he manages to fight through entire facility infested by space aliens, professionally trained marines, Black Ops government agents, travels into Xen and halts entire alien invasion on our planet. Respect.

Yes, I ´m aware of that, in fact I finished the game. Regarding the health system, personally prefer the old school system (medikits, health packs, whetever you call it), but the mechanics are so "Halish", just two weapons, reloading and that´s all. Hell, where´s the jet pack? Before I start to play DNF I played again DN3d, the atomic edition and the Caribbean expansion and still offer a more dinamic and mindless shooting; DNF tried to be more realistic but it failed because Duke is anything except realistic.

Two weapons? Did you really make the mistake of playing the console version of DNF? Because if you play it on PC, you can hold four weapons, as has been the case for years now. Also, what part of DNF tries to be realistic? This being, of course, the same game where you drive around in an RC car for a level, and another has you taking cover behind kitchen condiments... Nothing about this strikes me as trying to be "realistic."

Steam version and yes, you can carry four weapons...once you have beat the campaing mode. Still in the third installment and its expannsions you don´t carry 2 or 4 weapons, you could carry ALL THE WEAPONS and experiment every weapon in each enemy. DNF slaps you in the face by omitting this feature and when I mean realistic, in real life a single man can´t carry a pack of weapons, something that was applied in DNF and precisely that´s screwed the mechanics.

Once you've beaten the campaign mode? Uh, I played through it last year with 4 weapons without having to beat it first. I think it's just an option in the options menu. DNF's level design isn't the same as Duke 3D. The game was built with the inability to carry the full arsenal in mind. Thus, it hasn't "screwed the mechanics," because the enemy placement and map design is built to support only two to four weapons. The thing I find so amusing about all of this is that no one that complained about the weapon limit has offered a solution the developers could've used while still having the new weapons in the game. People can *try* to say "Well, look at GTA!" but that'd be dumb, because that weapon wheel (1) kills the flow of combat in a game like Duke Nukem. It's a fit for GTA with its deliberate physics, but would make flow awkward in a game with DNF's pacing (2) wouldn't be able to neatly fit DNF's guns into categories, which would be necessary to prevent the wheel from being a clusterfuck of a bunch of different, small gun icons. Unlike GTA, where there's multiple assault rifles, multiple pistols, etc., DNF's weapons aren't so easily organised. Even if they were, DNF is built in such a way where the permanent option for, say, the M1911 isn't very useful, because that gun is pretty much phased out ENTIRELY the second you get a better gun. So what's the point? Look, you just have to accept that DNF was built at a time where making a profitable "classic FPS" by allowing it to be sold on consoles wasn't going to happen, primarily because classic FPS level design would require a lot of resources that the Xbox 360 and PS3 didn't have when using modern visuals. For it to have been received positively, they'd have needed to have larger levels than the originals, similar to the new Doom game, but those consoles just didn't have the power to maintain all of that in memory (especially when keeping in mind 3D Realms' affinity for making a lot of the environment interactive). DNF was made the way it needed to be made to come out in 2011. As Lazy Game Reviews says in his video, there's practically nothing they could've done to make DNF not having the reception it did. It's a long time to wait for a game, expectations were high, and it was just never going to reach those expectations. And I have to say, it absolutely carries the *spirit* of a Duke Nukem game, even if it isn't the same in game design.

Before to reply, let me tell you if you had a good time with DNF then it´s fine. DNF is not the worst game of all time, but considering all the resources in terms of time and money invested the game was a big lettdown for many people, including those who played the original game in its time . Once being said that: as you said the level desing ins´t the same because changed but not one time, changed a lot. Then why the need to change the weapon wheel? Because that was one of the main features of DN3d, the combat pace was frenetic and quick along with the personality of DN, in fact combat wheel wasn´t nothing new in that era, but one of the strong points of DNF it´s no armed was almost phased out; you can kick ass with the pistol, shotgun, chaingun, RPG and every weapon; sure, not every weapon was efective with every monster, but there was a balance in terms of there wasn´t a useless weapon. DNF was planed to be released circa 1997 and 1998 for PC but not consoles. First FPS games were aimed to PC due console limitations as you said, which it doesn´t means FPS will never work in consoles (for instance Halo itslef) but if you wanna release a FPS for consoles at least optimize for each system. Also if I wanna release a game with a lot of delay and hype record, then I have to assume hype doesn´t live forever (no pun intended) and take the risks, in fact as you said Duke nukem carries the spirit and there´s one of the flaws, it carries the spirit of a game that should have released in its time, not almost 15 years later because if not impossible, it´s hard as hell to live the expectactions and that´s not the critics or playes fault, it´s up to the developers. I think George Broussard screwed a lot by delaying so many times the game and this result in 3D reals running out of resources and finally closing doors..Once again: if you enjoyed DNF, then good, but you can´t denied DNF was a palm slap, not because IGN or Gamespot bashed it, it was because the original DN3D offered the same as it´s sequel but faster and better and even grew old but in a better way. DNF offered the same but with few changes and for worst by coping the mechanics of other game, in fact I felt I was playing a cheap copy of Halo instead the original political incorrect macho. PS: I ´m subscribed to LGR and I respect his opinion regarding the mentioned game.
