Saying No to the Star in Mario Party is quite an interesting experiment because there's literally no reason to do it (as you gain absolutely nothing from declining it) but it's a rather cool Easter Egg and the devs who had the foresight and put in the work to make all the many different interesting and funny messages for those of us curious about how the host will react deserve some kudos. The funniest ones are the ones from Super Mario Party onwards, the hosts (and the devs) really didn't want you to pass on those stars lol, but will still let you eventually decline it if you keep insisting 3/4 times and acknowledge it as a strange strategy, a different strategy, or a good reason. Mario Party 1's just as funny too for being just so straightforward. Just "Well, goodbye", or rather, "Well, whatever" lol

It could go two ways: * If stealing a different star that an opponent already has it would certainly be better to get an additional star by stealing it with Boo instead, since that would both give you an star and take an star from an opponent. * If stealing the same star that you could have bought, stealing it after an opponent buys it would serve to make them waste 20 coins. However these are specific cases that would only work if: * For both, there's a Boo in the board (and you have to be able to reach it as well). * For stealing the same star that you could have bought, if the opponent is close enough to the star to buy it right afterwards you decline it. Without that you still gain absolutely nothing from declining it (but even then it still could be fun to decline it just for kicks if you have a large lead).

I actually declined a star once, it was on Yoshi's Tropical Island, I had like 50ish coins and a high enough roll to reach the Boo, and in my case, stealing a star was way more valuable than buying one, because one of my opponents had the lead and I had to steal him so I could have a chance to win. Other than that, I guess it can be useful in games with a -1 star space like MPDS, MP7 or Jamboree if you are currently sitting at 0 stars. That way, you make sure it will not get stolen.
