These conversations tend to veer towards women are good and men are bad with majority female panelists. This never results in honest and open dialogue. I see this dynamic in all the mainstream media discussions on this topic.

I agree, viewpoints were missing...but from the amount of men complaining about the number of women on the panel, I have to assume both feminist and men's rights viewpoints weren't represented. Because these women did not actual present the "common" female viewpoint at all.

@@chalocoy Fair enough. However you have to admit we do have the right to complain when many media outlets have panels consisting of majority female panelists on this topic. MSNBC had a panel of four women. All we ask for is to let us have a voice. Both men and women have the right to express their views. Not all male voices are misogynistic and not all female voices are misandrous. The men have the right to bring up this inconsistency like women who find predominantly male panels on the reproductive rights issue.

The topic was on Gen-Z and there was only one Gen-Z person on the show. Also, the men’s group guy seemed to be working with Gen-X and older people. It didn’t seem like he had Gen-Z men in his groups. Another important thing to note is, this was not a group of experts. The panel should have been made up of a psychologist who specializes in working with Gen-Z age people, an anthropologist who researches changing dynamics among different generations, a youth counselor from an LGBTQIA+ center, and a neuroscientist to explain thought processes and cognitive differences. All of these specialist I mentioned, would have given a more fact based response, which is based in decades of research. These specialist could have explained the factors based in ideology, which could pertain to region of the world you’re raised, religious influences, tribalism/politics, and the overall connection that is biology and how our brains process information. Even get a professor who teaches women’s and gender studies would be helpful for the conversation. As an anthropologist myself, I could have come to the show with actual peer reviewed data on the topic and a neuroscientist such as Robert Sapolsky could have given a clearer answer of what is going on with the brain. Also, having more panelist who are Gen-Z academics would be useful too. Something to think about for future shows.

Well, in Western countries, men and women have equal rights. And women are way better educated now than in the past. So this gives them career opportunities on a large scale that they didn’t previously have. They are actually ahead of many men who are less educated and have different jobs. So when THESE men hear about how women are oppressed and how men control the majority the wealth and power, it’s just like….wtf do you mean wealth and power? That’s only a very small group of men who rose to those positions. Not all men are them. Some chick yapping about how some blue collar guy that she actually out-earns is oppressing her with “patriarchy”, it’s just like 🤨 HUH?

Well, since the majority of the US Congress are wealthy white men and 90% of corporate CROs are wealthy white men, men hold most of the power in the world. Patriarchy is about power , it’s also by how both men and some women benefit from the suppression of women as a whole. Hispanic women still make .60 to $1 for a white male, Black women make .75. Again, it’s about power. All men don’t have power, but they still benefit from societal biases that tell the blue collar make worker that he is superior to the educated white collar woman…

Most data seems to quite reliably prove that married women are on average significantly happier than single women! If I remember correctly, the talking point that women are happier single was a distortion of another data point (the fact that there is less of a single-married happiness gap in women than men) in other words, single women may be happier than single men, but not happier than married women. Like with all things of course, these are just generalizations.

I get that this is produced in a conservative country, but at least if discussing the divide in other countries...representing the actual points of view correct or at all should be appropriate. Women are accused of being in a bubble that is radicalising us... but in that bubble what we are often talking about is the research and data of what happens to women at the hands of men. What is pushing us left is that the data shows it nevwr getting better and that is confirmed by our lived experiences for most of us being harrassed since we were children and many of us assaulted, as well as a billion and one other things. I will happily give away all the "advantages" of patriarchy - split bills, provide, buy the ring, whatever...if it means the danger finally goes away and we're not getting hurt anymore.

@mudshovel289

Listen, you are literally never, EVER going to completely get away from the dangers you are talking about as long as some men just turn out bad, which will be always happen. You can exhaust yourself talking about whatever statistics you want. But some humans will ALWAYS victimize other humans. It doesn’t matter what kind of societal changes you want to bring. It doesn’t matter how many arguments you win online. You still share a planet with men and you can’t make them disappear. Some of those men WILL be bad and that’s a forever unchanging fact. So…now that you know this, however you want to live your life is on you. If your solution is to socially isolate yourself from men and alienate the ones who were nice to you, then go do that. Or if you want to try to convince men on the internet to not do bad things to women, then go do that. But you’re still not eliminating bad people from the world. You’re not going to create a completely safe world for yourself.

@@billwalton4571 truthfully, why do you believe such an obviously untrue thing? Patriarchy, you mean the system where predators teamed up together to disempower women and turned us into property to increase their own value? No? Your talking about a fantasy where men sheltered their beloved female relatives to take care of them? Isn't it strange though then that women are mostly attacked by men these same men - their fathers, husbands and brothers. Good job, our so-called "protectors"! Unless you mean from ferocious beasts, except fossil records now show that women were also hunters, so we didn't need your protection from animals. So I'm really wondering where is this patriarchy that protects me? And let's be honest, who are they protecting me from? Women, no? Animals, no? Who then is such a danger to me to justify treating me and other women to justify treating us as second class citizens in our own society for our own "protection"?

Just one suggestion, try to balance panel members as 3:1 doesn't seem fair. Also this idiotic thought that women are saints and men are devils, women never been accountable for anything, fatherhood being targeted, men treated as ATMs only as fathers, the unequal resources issue with even claiming equality women take everything from men and men pay their entire life even after divorce, the marriage laws purely discriminating against men, the reverse sexism as we see every woman easily and casually abuse and use words openly on daily basis but isn't treated like that etc. The discussion on sexism from male side, rape etc is something we have been having for centuries, I think the focus should be on other issues as well, not just the same script for centuries to come. Our social media by and large is a reflection of, "let the market decide," Neo-Liberalism and Post-Modernist thinking, which has strategically eliminated socioeconomic class struggle from the discussion. The result is everyone fighting for a dollar, because that dollar equals a voice. Traditionally feminist and post-feminist thought was more focused on valuing and protecting aspects care-giving within society. Since the 80's the focus shifted more towards representation in the upper-class, which puts these representatives, pedaling hyper individualism, in positions to care for others they essentially identify with. While there is conversation about 'mindfulness' it is almost always coupled with consuming something luxurious to escape into fantasy. The results are attacks on individual consumers for wanting a return on their investments, even if they are based on unrealistic or a highly exploitative structures. Hence the frequent saying to the incel community, "You don't dislike women, you dislike capitalism."

I am deviating from that as seems to be more leftist and liberal to my girlfriend in the same age. But she is also center-left

People must resensitize their cognition if they expose themselves to utterly repulsive content online, take yourself back to basics from the freak sh** which is a strong case for censorship.

Some people don't like to see the terribly controlling female members of the patriarchy and focus just on the father figure, forgetting the patriarchy is a family unit as a whole with shifting dynamics where it can become the 'who has the dominant hat today' with the social toxicities never being abetted and just ignored on a short term basis.

There will be a backlash. Like all things in America and the West, its always extreme. Never a middle, calm position. That is why the West is stuck in forever wars. This will be a crisis.
