Well raid are pretty easy in vanilla. Its time consuming because of the time it takes to make a group and the low amount of gear it drop.

@@rumchata6569 yes in vanilla you have to do the raid with the group you started it sadly. Or people join your lockout. You can always just try to get some bosses down with a pug group, but its hard to get gear like that since there is like 3-4 pieces per boss !

I wouldn't say the main-reason for druids catching up in later raid-tiers is that they improve their gear. I'd say the main reason is that more healing overall is required so they don't always just get out-whack-a-moled by people with faster heals.

I played a priest during vanilla, When the priests ran out of mana in MC, the druids took over. It was a beautiful thing watching the true power of a druid heal.

@@dingomanz7 I had an experience that showcased that very point to me. It was not from vanilla but from wotlk. It was this raid in the PvP-Zone, that you could only do, when your faction controlled it. There was a hickup in the pull and 3 healers died immediately. So there was only 3 healers left. Regardless of class, all of the 3 remaining healers had about 2.5x more healing done in this fight then what was usual. We actually were forced to use our whole arsenal to maximize our healing throughput. When the healers actually work as a team, with clear responsibilities and intentional pauses where someone else takes over for the 5-second-rule to kick in and regenerate mana, you actually need far less of them and their class matters less.

They did not suck, they were not shit and they absolutely were not easy kills. They are an extremely hard class to play in PvP, they require alot of time and practice no doubt but to say that they suck as a result is just plain moronic. Fun fact to Illumination: it was 100% in Vanilla, 70% in tbc, 30% in Wotlk and removed in Cata xD They really couldnt decide

It's because it's insanely overpowered with high crit gear. Even at 70% and 30% it provided insane mana return whilst crit heal gave huge healing output, pumping up paladin's weak heals into powerhouses. The only reason it stayed 100% in Vanilla was because of a lack of knowledge and min maxing gearing from most raiding paladins with many raid leaders putting paladins at the back of the queue for spell crit rings and gear, Blizzard blatent alliance favouritism as usual and it took horde guilds to really push paladins to their limit and show how broken a talent it is. As a horde priest through Vanilla and a belf pally in BC and Wrath, I can tell you a raid filled with healadins who knew how to spam heals and blessings made raids so much easier, horde raiding in vanilla and classic is true hard mode.

@@cattysplat Btw, while they nerfed Illumination with every expansion, they also buffed improved watershield more and more. That never made sense to me. :D You are right, Paladin buffs are really strong and paladin is also strongest raidheal ingame, but that doesn't make it for Horde a true hardmode. The content is such easy, its not even a challenge compared to mythic or old heroic.

Yah, I plan on doing that as well. Healing as a druid kind of blows for 5 mans due to the lack of a proper rez. Especially early on when everyone has terrible gear and deaths WILL happen. I'll be tanking and grabbing healing gear along the way.

There is so much more to every class that can heal than just healing output, support skills and raiding. You will spend a huge amount of time levelling and playing your class, you can be the best at any one of them, but it's important that you have fun above all else and use all the tools your class offers, don't roll a healer to be a healbot. Solo damage, downtime and survivability (everybody solos some of the time) in PvE and open world PvP, damage specs and hybriding for levelling/dungeons/elite quests or when you get bored/need to grind/become your guild's sulfuras god, easy mode (paladins with blessings especially salvation on alliance) or hard mode (horde with weak salv for caster dps groups), broken fun which makes classic funny and unique despite imbalance (windfury + totem, divine shield, mind control, hammer of injustice, frost shock spam), crowd control and cleansing debuffs.

Here I am watching this video after I stopped playing. Really enjoyed my shaman. And once I got around 4 or 5 pieces of MC gear, I really could easily heal any 5 man. Before that, mana was a bit of an issue at times. But if the tank was smart, it really wasn't an issue. I love the totems aspect of shaman, and the reason why I was excited to play a pre-neutered shaman. Why I quit playing? I got tired of the grind for herbs (which was my only source to make gold and major mana pots) in between raid sessions. I know this is how MMO's are, but it does get better in BC. And my guild, while a decent raiding guild, wasn't all that friendly. It wasn't like my close knit guild back in BC days. I prefer 10 man raiding over 40 man raiding.

Druids are one of the more fun classes in everything but raids. They are ok in raids, but it sucks getting all your heals sniped by holy paladins. That is where half the reputation of "worst healers" comes from... it isn't their inability to heal, but more that you get these raid logs which make them look worse than they are, since raids on farm is just pally/priest spamming flash heals. I've tried to convince people over the years that they should be utilizing one of the druid's strengths, which is the ability to shift into different roles. You don't actually need to go full resto to heal on a druid, and a hybrid spec can allow a druid to support heal, decurse, brez, innervate, buff MOTW on content which needs it. And on easier content, they can switch gear and either help tank or dps. Will their damage be "great"? Of course not. However, it is much more damage than a druid just sitting on the back lines getting all their heals sniped, so they just alt-tab over to something else during the fight... Unfortunately, too many people like to put classes into neat little boxes and don't want to bother with that flexibility. You are either healing or a full, dedicated feral druid. That is it, end of story. /rant I'll be playing UD priest this time around. I'll probably still level a druid alt since they are fun in pvp and can both tank or heal 5 man's

Just spec for improved regrowth and nature's grace and spam fast cast r4 Regrowth to never get sniped again. You need to bring a lot of potions and use innervate on yourself though.

I considered this, but still probably going priest just for something slightly different rather than just replaying the same class again.

The reason why there's always a paladin occupying the top healing spot is Judgement of light. JoL is basically free consistent raid healing as long as you have lasting judgment. Only one paladin can judge light, therefore only one paladin in the raid can benefit from the extra healing of that spell.

Good vid, Punkrat, keep it up! Rdru HPS can be rather copetitive on short/middle fight time encounters (or w geared raid - e.g. shorter fights) in an agressive Regrowth spam build. Worth mentioning that. Though some stuff like Visc idol + Class trinket from ZG are vital for it, i'd say.

Same for druid. Absolutely love the levelling experience and flexibility of a druid. Can be a tank, dps or healer throughout your climb to 60, and sure, maybe not the best of any of them, but passable enough that you don't gotta make 3 characters to cover each role. You really gave resto/feral druid little love other then just saying they're Godlike and only talking about running the flag in WsG. That's no news who is nr 1 FC there but I lost count how many times a druid has saved me and others with their NS (instant) max ranked heal on a tank in dungeon/raid/pvp regardless of content. Sure druids may not be the "go to" nr1 healer for premades pushing for ranks but good luck try catch and kill a good kiting self healing druid in AB etc. If he doesn't want to die, he won't (in most cases). They usually guard the first base in AB due to being stealthed, self heals and what not as even premade feel sorry for them carry the guild in WsG and then not being welcomed to AB so they bring one sometimes. This video was quite simplified. I have a childhood friend who been playing MMOs with me ever since our first back in 2001, Dark Age of Camelot and I dare say he is a very good and skilled healer and let me tell you, he ditched his Tier2 priest for druid when it comes to PvP due to some of what I have just explained. My issue is that most of the content creators guides only focusing on numbers and not what a class can accually do in different/all situations other then stand and freecast spam heals on people in raids. But I guess since my buddy and I are in a different generation being 40yo because most players in most MMOs today only go to a forum/video/guide and ask "what's best X and Y". People were bad in Vanilla, so going outside of the coockie-cutter norm was frowned upon. But why are we still insisting on all these "facts"? It's a bit silly imho. And don't tell me you're talking about super-hardcore-realm-first-stuff. That kind of streamlined efficiency-stuff is not interesting for "98%" of the community. Tbh I really don't understand people who fall into this category. If you're so into all these paint-by-numbers, why don't you just stick with retail? The early expansions had so much more room for theorycrafting and optimizing your experience in a way that you preferred. Use that. Explore. Have fun. Play what you like instead of what is "viable". Play it as an mmoRPG. I mean when I hear the only thing some wil do is just rush through everything, the same people are those who complain Classic is too short and needs post Vanilla content lol. We didn't have a legit Blizzlike Vanilla for 15 years, and the only thing some will do is just to rush it all? I have to agree here. We were also a solid DAOC guild and my brother picked up the Druid when we came to WoW and ran with it, even through all the changes it had and he even convinced a couple of other people to play one as a main / lead alt based solely on his performance (feral for dungeon and early raid content tanking, laser chicken for PVP). Tips did a video on raid composition and these top guilds he got the numbers from were packing 4-5 druids all the way through content. Druids are extremely capable in the hands of good players because they can do everything. We don't need them to be able to top meters, we need them to heal, de-curse, nuke, aoe nuke, tank, dps, battle rez and innervate as dictated by the situation, and the less hardcore your guild, more mistakes will be made, so the more you will probably need druids!

Paladins do have a very good AoE heal , aka Judgement of Light. On a raid bosses is does an insane amount of healing for all the melees. Rogues and fury warriors basically heal themselves.

A lil' nitpick around 2:24 : During the casting of a spell, you still regen mana via spirit, if you were regenning before you began casting. It is when a spell is cast that this natural mana regen ends and the five second timer begins.

Honestly a lot of people have been talking me out of druid, but watching this kinda confirmed what I want to do. I love playing resto druid in later expansions and while I won't be topping in heals I love the idea of having utility of just raw healing potential to help beyond keeping HP up. On top of that a lot of my friends are considering running a pvp server so the idea of running a clusterfuck style switching between forms using my batman utility belt to slap horde scum out of existence sounds really really fun. Thanks for helping me narrow it down.

Holy paladin was my jam. I liked healing groups with single target spells. That was fun, but fuck those terribly short buffs. There was so much utility there too especially if you got all your spells. Only problem is there’s no good plate pieces for awhile so you’re stuck wearing cloth if you wanted to heal so you’d be rolling against so many mages and warlocks for that early good healing gear and they’d be pissed

Well being a priest myself since WoW Vanilla, raiding MC up until Naxx I noticed that Druides and Paladins have the best greater healing, BUT on stats, Druides and Paladins are also way up in the OVERHEAL stats, so basically that stats are incorrect

Can we please have a conversation about this pally worship? Best overall healing you're showing pallys, but that's really not till they hit tier 3. Which is the last part of classic. Are you actually taking the numbers from the raid specific gear settings? Or are they when Naxx is already out so pallys are at the top due to their gear? I'm assume the latter.

Is a "target most critically injured" macro possible on Classic? Edit: No it's not. It's considered a "smart" function of a macro being able to make a decision like target lowest health autonomously and was removed in 2.0.

It's because the end goal of the game is to raid (or pvp). Once you hit 60, that's the path many will take to keep things interesting. Would've maybe been nice for him to give a brief mention to levelling and healing lower dungeons, but the video would've been twice as long I guess. 1 to 60, it really doesn't matter anyway, doesn't even matter in raids hugely tbh, every single class has their role and utility that are needed, just pick whatever appeals, because if you're taking them up to 60, you'll be playing them for a long ass time.

Spot on. Raiding requires time which many including myself do not have. I didn't have it back in the day and have less of it now. I played for 3 years back in the day (TBC/WotLK) and not one raid. Raiding is again not at all my goal this time around; it's not a skill thing it's a time thing. In my experience raiding is for a small portion of the player population.

I'll take the bonus group/raid dps over my character having the highest HPS, which is like winning the loudest fart contest. Congrats on your bragging rights. 😂😂😂 (Also the totems aren't a talent spec, so you could do the same twist as enhancement.)

And what i mentioned was the fact that you losing 3sec every 10sec for totem twisting so some other heallers should heal more. Btw dps of the Enchance is so low its better to heal with those tallents anyway (and nightfall uptime of shaman is just terribly bad - i tested it on all possible classes -> fury warrior have best uptime while having the best dps at the same time, hunter is second and shaman/paladins down there with 2-3 times less uptime). So its not like a total win with tranquil/windfury totem twisting. Thats why Alliance have the fastest naxxramas run of all time and not the horde.

The reason there is always one Paladin at the top of the healing meters is Judgement of Light. There is an option on legacyplayers.com where you can filter it out (which you should). Also, when rating Shamans, did you look at trash heal aswell? In my experience Shamans excel at trash heal and, as you already mentioned, boss fights that require lots of raid healing.

Hey Punkrat, thanks for the vid. Just one thing to notice: I think u r overestimating the logs. Especially when it comes to healing the logs r not easy to read. Healers have different tasks/roles. They heal different targets and have different obligations. Just from a pure comparison of the hps-logs there is nothing to gain for decision making about how good and bad a healer is. There r even more problems with that. As far as i remember (stopped playin PS a year ago) the logs had problems with the recognition of the chain heal bounces, they were just mostly ignored. For the horde faction, i can give new players that advice: If u want to have a raiding spot and dont care about what healer u play, play a shaman. Shamans r always needed and looked after. Lookin forward to see you all in classic.

Yeah, stat tables in general aren't reliable as they don't show what other things a class brings to the table. Same with dps charts not necessarily showing what utility and aid they bring

I played druid in classic vanilla as healer, stomped almost every priest and shaman on the meters, even ones that had more gear than me. I absolutely loved druid healing, and downgrading HT's was fun to me tbh.

Always loved druid. I don't get that 'battle of who wins the healmeters', I never cared as long as none died. Usually I felt like I don't even need to heal full blast unless shit got real and someone needed to save the day, as priests/shammys we're sweating their asses off all the time. Druid felt most tactical to me with reju, regrowth, swiftmend combos. Also very much fun and able to save everyone in 5-mans. However I'm thinking now of rolling something else for classic for a change, but just can't choose which class to pick!

I leveled both up to 35 and as far as that goes shaman is head and shoulders above priest. You may not have as strong heals and have to manage your Mana better but those totems add a lot of fun to the mix. Plus you have all those lil luxuries ghost wolf, extra hearth on 15 min cd, water walking/breathing, reincarnate and far sight which is amazing for farming mats. But then again you don't have mind control.

Back in the day raiding was for hardcore. Vanilla raids are easy right now compared to what we have now, you wont have perfect raiding set up in most guild. Unless you are going for world first. Play what you like and want. Vanilla is all about the world and the social experience. Play what will make you happy to log in.

Can anyone make a guide for just regular ol' play? Dungeon s, group content? I truly believe the vast majority of players in classic won't hit raids or do them seriously, just like vanilla. Considerations for BIS nax doesn't do much for the average player.

I would tend to agree with you on this but I also think that content will be MUCH more pug'able this time around. The mechanics aren't rocket science and there aren't going to be a lot of straight noobs making it all the way to 60 when you can just as quickly turn around and log into modern to get immediate gratification.

Does fairy fire stack with sunder in actual classic? I don't really remember but I do remember how a rogue in my guild got guild banned for using his reduce armor buff on a raid target because it caused sunder to not be able to be applied and the tank lost agro on the boss due to it wiping the raid. On top of that the rogue knew that it didn't stack but did it anyway because he was bored.

Arsen D 30/0/21 most likely. Picking up extra hit and crit and NS for elemental in resto tree and resto stuff in resto tree for healing. You do lose out on mana tide totem which will make your raid sad, without suffering on personal meters. Which means the raid might not be ok with it.
