Homes in Asian countries are often really amazing and affordable though I was a little surprised by the Tokyo home. No surprises with the home in the Philippines though, I've been there before and everything is insanely cheap and nice (though that is due to the economy and such). A really nice hotel room with room service and its own restaurant is only a little more expensive than renting a room in NZ that looks like a jail cell. Meanwhile anyone thinking those apartments in NYC are good... are just delusional and I feel sorry for anyone thinking that way. They should be illegal. Moving to somewhere like the Philippines or Thailand is very tempting for me as it's just so insanely cheap compared to NZ (where I live) and they're beautiful countries too. Take $500,000 USD to buy a home in NZ and you'll only be able to afford a crack house in most places outside of Auckland.

One thing that really annoyed me was the fact the Lud kept thinking that we treat our maids or “helpers” as we like to call them here in the Philippines, as slaves. We absolutely do not. I mean. Of course, there will always be that one family who thinks their above everyone else. But most of the time, people treat their helpers like family in the Philippines. We had helpers when I was growing up and we treated them like one of our own. The eat with us at the table, they have their own bedrooms and bathrooms, they come with us when we go on vacation, etc. In some cases, these helpers end up spending the rest of their lives withe the families that take them in. Some even bring their children in to work full time. I get that in other countries, mainly first world countries, it’s culture to look down upon these types of people and the work they do. Something that needs to be changed.
@Dungeonhammer3 жыл бұрын
The average North American has no real concept of having maids. It is reserved for the ultra-rich in our society. The author's ignorance is primarily because of this. nah it definitely not $500k for the Philippines house cuz my grandmas sister has a house in a very very posh neighborhood that has a golf course, a country club, it on top of a hill , you need to pass 3 gates with guards to get to the house and some of their neighbor are celebrity and her house isn't that big or that grand but they sold it for 500k. so the third house isn't 500k or it more depends on the location.

If you’ve never visited/lived in Japan, some context! Walls are very thin and have no insulation. Unlike American houses there is also no central heating/air so having heated floors helps soooo much if you can afford it. There are a lot of old apartments and houses that don’t have this though. They also have space heaters, heated rugs, and the infamous kotatsu table to battle the cold winters!
@nesmei70052 жыл бұрын
Yeess ppl don't realize that the homes get cold there in winter. I lived in the countryside in a 1990s block of flats, i was happy enough that the aircon was good for both heat and cool but my housemate avoided using it and got a little heater for her room instead 😅 i had heated rug and heated mattress insert.

I found the NYC apartments so funny because ofc apartments in good neighborhoods in Manhattan would offer nothing for a big price. I lived in an apartment in Queens in a bad neighborhood and we had 3 bedrooms, a full bathroom, a full living room, and a full kitchen with tons of closet space and space for a dining table. And now, for the same price, I live in a house with 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms not including the rented space but now I’m in the suburbs of NY, in Long Island. NYC is literally a different world each and every block.

That last house sent me on a search. The "unique" accent wall at 28:22 doesn't relate to Germany. In fact, since it has both a swastika and a sauvastika, it's more likely related to Hinduism, Buddhism or Jainism. Since I don't know *that* much about those religions, I can't say anything for sure. But the history of it, and the meaning before it was twisted into some sphincter tightening symbol, is honestly pretty fascinating to read about.

Space and the average salary in the Philippines comes to play The reason why the Philippines is so cheap to live in compared to other countries is because of how cheap the daily minimum wage is here. The daily aevrage minimum wage varies from around $6 to just around $11. Also the internet here sucks, so that's that. Plus Metro Manila having electricity rates more expensive than even Bangkok Metro compensates for how cheap a home is here
