That's where she realized something (not sexual) had been going on between the two of them. She was blindsided by the two most important people in her life. She had also accepted that her father's duty was to do what was best for the kingdom. Marrying Alicent isn't even close to being what is best.

As a Targaryen/Valyrian, she was expecting her father to do the right and sane move and marry her Young cousin. Yes to us it is disgusting and unfathomable, however in the Targaryen and Valyrian bloodstock it was quite normal back then. Even back in the 1500s of our time disgusting, yet it happened. Of course Daemon has some loyalty to his brother, he has a lot of loyalty to his brother and family... In Daemon's eyes he is doing what he is doing for the good of the family... He never intended to cut his way into the throne by usurping his brother, he has supported his brother's rein, he understood that if Viserys had a son he would be out... He just thinks he deserves a better standing in his brother's counsel... Daemon does think Viserys is weak, but he has never tried to exploit that; in fact, Daemon's combativeness, his temperament and his some what brutal actions are, in part, to show the strength that he believes his brother doesn't have, to show that even if the king isn't strong there is someone next to him that is and that they family should not be mess with. This is made clear by his interaction with Rhaenyra, and she knows this... That's why she went there and was so confident that he would not hurt her... Because the reality is that it wasn't bravery or her being bossy and bad ass what solve the situation; it was the fact that Daemon allowed it, allowed her... It was his affection for her and the fact that Rhaenyra knows it... Because it is was someone else, someone else even sitting on that dragon, Daemon would've probably started a fight there and he would've won; Not only did he had more men but Caraxes is twice the size of Syrax, and perhaps more importantly, FAAAAAARRR more aggressive and ready for a fight than she is... Syrax, as gorgeous as she is, is a show pony in comparison; She has been used just for joy rides and has a very mellow temperament, she is more elegant and tamed... Caraxes is an asshole LOL

He would have won the fight there, but he would've gotten obliterated after. He had a pretty overall small force, dragon included compared the the power of the King if he chose to actually assault dragonstone in force after this.
@Alewaxon
@Alewaxon 2 жыл бұрын
@@unrealchaos528 The thing is that we have to remember that Dragonstone is an island, with no many points of entry... Basically, similar to the Eyrie, it doesn't really matter how large your army is if you have to go thru a walk way that only allows 2 by 2 by 2... Of course, then we have the dragons, a few dragons showing up from the king's side would indeed mean that Daemon is fucked; but that would also probably mean damaging or even destroying Dragonstone in the process... And I'm not sure anyone is willing to do that, to burn their ancestral seat with Dragon fire... The reality is that Daemon's position is solid: in one hand Dragonstone seems to be easily defendable against assault even with a smaller force; and on the other it is also important enough that the actual thing that can wipe him out easily, a dragon or multiple dragons assaulting, isn't really an option for anyone who actually "owns" those dragons because of the damage the would cause to it.
@unrealchaos528
@unrealchaos528 2 жыл бұрын
@@Alewaxon the navy can blockade all the ports and they would run out of food. Dragonstone has little actual farmable land and no livestock as well. They are completely dependent on their ports for food. Dragons wouldn't even be necessary except to eliminate Caraxes.
@Alewaxon
@Alewaxon 2 жыл бұрын
@@unrealchaos528 You are right about that... I would probably just kindof lean more heavily into my point that it is their ancestral seat and that the people who populate it, outside of Daemon and his men, are important to the family as well as the castle and land... So I would still say that the importance of the place gives him some of the strength that he looses in numbers, not all, it doesn't balance it, but it is a solid position... A blockade means that the conflict would drag out for a long period of time, a long period of time for the the king and heir or heirs without control of their seat of power; and we also have to keep in mind that (unless I'm not remembering correctly), Caraxes isn't the only dragon in Dragonstone, in fact the larger dragons I think usually reside in Dragonstone because they are too large for the Dragonpit... And even if they are not Daemon's dragons he could still unleash them, OR at the very least they would not be used against him... Vermithor is rider less at this point and resides in Dragonstone, and so does Silverwing and Sheepstealer... so 4 in the TOP 6 of their largest dragons are all there in Dragonstone with no rider; Daemon has nukes there if he unleashed the dragons against "people coming to disrupt their home"

I'm pretty positive Otto went to Dragonstone instead of Viserys for the express purpose of preventing the brothers from reconciling. Daemon loves his brother, and vice Versa. Daemon wasn't getting married, he wasn't having a kid, and he gave the Dragons Egg back like it was nothing. Everything he did was to provoke Viserys, someone notably averse to confrontation and conflict, to do just that. And it worked, if not for Otto. And Daemon's face when he asked where Viserys was seemed like legitimate disappointment. Otto also definitely would have loved to provoke Daemon into attacking, but he mistepped by not realizing that Daemon would definitely deploy Caraxes. Should have requested a Dragon Rider come with them in the first place. If Rhaenyra doesn't show up, It's BBQ Hand of the King O'Clock. Otto does make mistakes, it's just up to someone just as competent as him to capitalize on them.

Viserys wouldn't have to sleep with Laena until she turned 14. Alicent at the time they got married (in the series) is about 15 or 16 (in the book she is 18), so it's only one year in terms of age difference. The only advantage to marry Alicent is that he could have heirs 2 years earlier than with Laena. In this universe girls are ready to have sex as soon as they get their periods and are married and sometimes they marry really early but the marriage is consumated only after the bride gets her period. I know in 2022 this sounds awful but in Medieval times marriage usually occured at early teenage years, for both genders.

Does anyone realize that in the Game of Thrones books, Sansa Stark was 12 years old, like Laena Velaryon, when she was forced to marry Tyrion Lannister? Sansa in the books was more mature that little Laena is here; she was tall and looked a bit older, though she was still physically undeveloped enough for Tyrion to look at her undressed body during their wedding night and call her "a child", while admitting he still wanted to have sex with her. It was not uncommon, either in Westeros or in medieval Europe, for royal or noble brides to be betrothed quite young (sometimes married quite young), even as children, with the consummation delayed until the brides were at least 16, since live babies and healthy mothers were preferred. (In the Game of Thrones novel, although King Robert insists on the betrothal of 11-year-old Sansa Stark to his supposed son Prince Joffrey, Ned Stark insists, as a condition of that betrothal, that the marriage not occur until Sansa is 16).

Daemon will never harm his brother or his family. It’s actually the opposite. Everything he does is for his family even though it doesn’t seam like it. Daemon sees it and Rhaenyra is starting to notice it. Please don’t get mad at the show when Rhaenyra becomes the person that Daemon is. She is becoming a true Targaryen. Seeing Viserys just walking around with that child, before they even started talking, I was so uncomfortable and wanted to vomit, but, within the confines of the story itself, ironically, it was the safer option, because, now, not only is Corlys against him, but also Daemon and Rhaenyra, all of whom, are quite literally, the most powerful people in all of the seven kingdoms, at this point. For the record, I don't think Corlys wanted his daughter married to the King, he just realized that it'd be worse with Otto, basically, in charge, and he was willing to let it happen, even if it wasn't his sacrifice to make. It was sickening, offering up a little girl like that, but despite all that, he's still one of the only characters that I like, besides his wife, Daemon and Rhaenyra, they are the only characters I'm rooting for; everyone else, I don't trust, especially the fucking Hightowers, that family is dangerous, especially that stupid Alicent, can't help but hate her, I wish, though, that she could be the one to kill her father, although that isn't likely to happen. Besides, all that weirdness, I still really loved the episode and the reaction. I do like, though, that they are not shying away from it, because that gives a realism of the times to the story, because those things really used to happen. The girl really has better understanding of politics and dynamics than the guy who keeps seeing a medieval dark immoral show from modern lens. This is exactly how alliances were made. 12-14 was the age of adolescence for girls and big houses would join hands through the act of marriage to mix the next generation so that the individual smaller scaled houses wouldn’t dare cause a rift or rebellion. It would have been a really power move to marry Laena had Viserys actually thought of realm’s need over his own. Marrying Alicent would bring him anything but comfort. Firstly it would be like betraying his wife (as he claims that he still ‘love’ Aemma) cause he’s marrying for his own need and it would also be like betraying his daughter cause he’s marrying her best friend of all people without telling her, marrying Alicent doesn’t bring him any political advantage and lastly he’ll make Valerian house as an enemy instead of ally. Even in chess piece a king is useless if you get rid of all other side pieces, in the same way works the Targaryen dynasty without these other houses supporting them. Making enemy of biggest house is a high risk of civil war. Targaryens and Valerians are the only big surviving houses of old Valyria, the only thing that makes Targaryens superior is that they are dragon lords. In terms of power the Valerians still have an upper hand of sea ports, larger wealth and maximum dragon riders. Not to mention they already have Targaryen blood running in their system through Rhaenys (the queen who never was) and her kids. If Rhaenys want, she can take over anytime she wants on the throne given how weak Viserys really is.

Visery made the same mistake as Ned stark. Good guys but bad kings. He should’ve picked the 12 yr old, that decision is what technically starts the civil war between the Targaryens. Dumb

Alicent is actually 18 in the books and 10 years older than Rhaenyra. Rhanyra is made older in the show for obvious sexual cringe factor. Also no, she’s young. She can learn. We need to give respect to older experience.

This is only setting where an old man marrying a pre-teen would be a sound decision and a good thing. Icky indeed, but the old fellow marrying what appears to be a trafficked minor out of love and lust, with potential disastrous consequences thereof for him, her ,their families and the society as a whole - seems to me to be a far unsounder and worse act

You guys were so annoying being triggered and virtue signaling. We all know that pedophilia uncomfortable. This is a story that should show uncomfortable things. Also, it’s not about misogyny or sexism to want an male heir in any noble/royal house. Think about it? Houses names would change overnight. For example, if Rhanyra has children with another lord and her heirs will take their non royal father’s name it will no longer be house Targaryen it will be house whatever.

It's absolutely about sexism. They didn't think women could rule. Also, Rhaenys is still a Targaryen by name and by blood. Anyone that Rhaenyra marries will be from an inferior family, so she'll keep her family name too. As for their children, yes, they would have the family name of the father. But the heir would take the name Targaryen upon ascending the Iron Throne.

@Ricardo Castro if a woman is heir to the throne the last name DOES NOT change. Very similar to Queen Elizabeth ii of England. Her last name Windsor which is her father, grandfather name even when she married back in the 1940's her last name stayed the same. It is still house of Windsor

Just so you know, child marriage is insanely gross and abusive. But it's only illegal in 7 US states, child marriage still occurs today especially in hyper-Christian communities. I think as a country, we need to do better here.

A lot of things are legal in the US that almost never actually occur, or aren't actually actively maintained as legal, just on the books, that included. Such things actually occurring is pretty rare in the US.

@@bevo9118 300,000 children as young as 12 have been married from 2000-2018 in the US as per UNICEF. Averages out to 16,666/year or 45 child marriages a DAY, but sure it's insanely rare in the US because Bevo said so. Educate yourself next time before you make an insanely dumb take.

Well, the show is better off without viewers who want all action and no substance. But you'll miss the 17 dragons and epic dragon-on-dragon battles that's to come. The War of the Five Kings pales in comparison to the Dance of Dragons. But that's your loss.
