King Viserys was the last Targaryen to ride Balerion the black dread. That is his skull that we later see in the dungeon of the Red Keep in GoT. 9 years since the old king passed but that is after 50-60 years of peace. The old king is the one who built the kings road and banned the traditional "first night" where a lord could take take uh...dibs... on any bride's wedding night in his land. He was considered the greatest of the Targaryen kings.

Queen Aemma's full name was actually Aemma Arryn, not Aemma Targaryen. Wives of Targaryens don't take their surnames. Aemma was the daughter of Rodrik Arryn and Daella Targaryen, she was the King's first cousin. The son's name was Baelon, the name of the King's father.

The tradition passed to House Baratheon once it became the Royal House ( at least in some capacity, dunno if completely ), Cersei was never referred as Cersei Baratheon and Margaery was never referred as Margaery Baratheon. Elia Martell? Never. Dyanna Dayne? Never. Alyssa Velaryon? Never. Betha Blackwood? Never. The list continues.

One thing about HBO and GoT/HotD - the costume designs are killer. And HotD just kicked up the set designs a few notches too. Seems like a weird thing to pick out on a show so full of drama and over-the-top violence and sex, but that crew has some real artistry. I almost lost track of the story just taking in the designs :) Also, lego knight helm - I mean, how can you not fixate on that?!

One thing a lot of top shows do, such as Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and now this one, is they "message" where a character is in their story, or how they are feeling throgih their wardrobe. Alongside this, a lot of care and time is put into these costumes so I don't think it's odd to point it out. If anything it deserves more attention. A good example is Cersei's clothing in game of thrones. It changes in its tones of red and into black. Same with Sansa's clothing. Others do this too but these are some of the more obvious. The costuming can tell you a lot more about characters, and in some shows there are even instances where it foreshadows the characters method of death or a future big event that impact them, sometimes well in advance.

At the end of the last published book of the ASOIAF series, A Dance With Dragons (2011), Jon Snow has just been killed, Daenerys has just been found in the rolling grasslands outside Meereen, Theon has just escaped from Winterfell (and not with Sansa), Sansa is at the Vale with Littlefinger, Sam has just arrived at the Vale, Jaime is in the Riverlands and currently in severe danger, and Tyrion is captive (somewhat) outside the walls of Meereen. All this and more since 2011. Hardly a word from GRRM since, save a few sample chapters for The Winds Of Winter.

I have to correct you on Daenerys, she was NEVER the hero of the story. GRRM uses her storyline to play with “the hero of your own story” or “hero of the other side.” To get a sense of her storyline, please read the Meereenese Blot essays, they are approved by Martin, who said that “this guy gets it.” The heart of ASOIAF are the Starks (Bran, Sansa, Jon, and Arya) and the Starks are the heroes. Also, check out Alt Shift X’s HOT D’s episode explained videos, he doesn’t spoil any further than what the episode states and gives background on the events and people that apply to the episode.

The book this show is based on is one complete novel, it starts with Aegon the Conqueror. You might find it interesting one day just because it’s the whole Targaryen history, up to the mad king. If you love Targaryens.

While misogyny was definitely at play regarding the decision made by the Great Council of 101, it was a considerably more complicated affair than just that. While a woman, Rhaenys was the only child of King Jaehaerys's eldest son, Prince Aemon, who died from a crossbow bolt in his throat during a campaign against Myrish pirates, and the wife of Corlys Velaryon, the Lord of House Velaryon. The Velaryons, while not Dragonlords, were still Blood of Old Valyria. They had been friends and vassals of the Targaryens since before the Doom, with the two Houses intermarrying often. Moreover, they controlled the largest fleet in Westeros at the time, and Corlys had, throughout his many journeys to the East, made his House richer than even the Lannisters. Moreover, during the Council, Rhaenys was supported by the Baratheons as her mother, Jocelyn, was a member of their House, and even King Jaehaerys's sister via his mother's(also a Velaryon, by the way) second marriage. On Viserys's side, he was the eldest son of Prince Baelon the Brave, King Jaehaerys's younger son. Baelon was an absolute legend from as far back as a kid when he bobbed Balerion the Black Dread on the nose with a stick during his first visit to the Dragonpit, thus earning his name from a laughing Kingsguard Knight who was watching. His chosen dragon was Vhaghar, the same dragon the Conqueror's sister wife, Visenya, rode into battle and almost as powerful as Balerion himself. He used her to great effect during the Fourth Dornish War, burning Prince Morion Martell's fleet to ashes alongside his father and brother before they ever landed in the Stormlands, and then again to wreak bloody vengeance upon the Myrish pirates who killed Aemon as the two brothers had been as close as any two siblings could be. In addition to being a great warrior, Baelon was wise and compassionate, being much beloved by the people. After Aemon's death, he was named Prince of Dragonstone and heir to the Iron Throne, ahead of his niece Rhaenys(something the Velaryons and Baratheons were deeply upset at). Then Hand of the King after his predecessor and Jaehaerys's best friend, Septon Barth, passed away. Sadly, Prince Baelon the Brave died from a case of Appendicitis before he could inherit the Iron Throne.

Alicent also companion to late King Jaehaerys when his health was failing, she's basically his caretaker. I think that's why her father asked her to accompany King Viserys too, of course with "side quest" in mind.

Prediction: Alicent gets pregnant by the King and has a boy, the Princess and Daemon hook up and become allies. Without knowing who the dragon riders are, hard to predict who is going to try and make a claim. We only know two, at least 8 more under yoke. And I think I saw we could have as many as 18.

The prophecy of Viserys doesn't come true though, because Dany nor Jon/Aegon are on the throne when they fight the Night King and it's also not even a Targaryen who kills the Night King but a Stark. I think this show kinda hints more to how the books will actually end, because we all know that ending will be very different and Jon/Aegon and Dany will have a much bigger role/impact in the war against the White Walkers.

I didnt mind the ending of GoT. I saw the foreshadowing of Dany's character in season 7 but the Starks were always my house. I even have a "House Stark: Winter is Coming" hoodie. The only thing I didnt like was Bran being king. If he couldnt be Lord of Winterfell, then why was he OK with being king?

I think Daenerys dissent into madness was a nice idea but I don’t like the way it was handled in the show. She should’ve won, sat throne and then they could’ve had a few more episodes showing her reign crumbling as her madness sets in and then Jon should’ve killed her and become king after revealing his true name to everyone. Or what could’ve happened is Jon could’ve revealed his true name and Daenerys tried to kill him resulting in a fight that would be so emotional for the audience until Jon wins and is crowned king. If they wanted they could find a way to make Daenerys get killed by the iron throne

And honestly, GoT made a great job showing how she got corrupted by power. Yes she started as a liberator, but the more obstacles she encountered, the more violent and impatient she became. I still have a few grippes against the last season, like how stupid the strategy used during winterfell siege was, I'm disappointed Jon didn't kill the night king, and how Bran became the new king out of nowhere... however I don't think it's enough to ruin the all serie like some people are claiming... I know a friend who don't want to watch GoT because some friends told him it's not worth it after what they did with the last season...

In general I was disappointed with the GOT series and kinda expected it to end badly. I don't want to be one of those annoying book readers but I have to say, the characters in the books are so much more than how they were portrayed in the show. One example is how they basically made Tyrion this good guy in the show whereas in the books he is a pretty messed up dude. He is so much like his father and very twisted and spiteful. He has some positive traits too and by far he is the better of the siblings. However he could be set up as a villain for the end that manipulates Dany into madness. Tyrion in the books is so good at manipulation for his own gains. At the moment he is on a very vengeful mission and wants to kill everyone in kings landing. This character was changed so much in the show that they wrote him into a corner and he came across as completely incompetent by the end yet the show had set him up to be one of the smartest players. Hopefully HOTD will be better.
