This sounds like a proper business partnering role. Most advertised business partner roles are management accounting roles, rebranded to be with the times, without the actual emphasis on business partnering and insight generation.

Thanks for this- very helpful! I was an audit manager and recently made my move in to Group FP&A, so very interesting to learn about FBP roles. Keep up the good work!

How is your Group FP&A job going? how many hours do you work a week? I'm trying to also move away from audit at a big 4. Thanks.
@abrarchowdhury962 жыл бұрын
@@TheOne-po8bn yeah pretty decent, much easier than the intense pressures of audit (but still need to work hard)! Having said that, FBP roles seem more interesting...
@TheOne-po8bn2 жыл бұрын
@@abrarchowdhury96 Nice! Do you have room for progression or are you already pretty senior?Do you you think it's manageable to get very senior? because at Big 4 you have to give up your life to get to director/partner. FPB sounds like a lot of note taking and hours without a significant increase in pay from this vid haha
@abrarchowdhury962 жыл бұрын
@@TheOne-po8bn progression will massively differ company by company, and the progression lines are not as structured as practise - but hopefully with good performance you should be able to climb the “ladder” either internally or by changing jobs. Working life balance is much better than audit, but as expected there are some intense busy periods (still not as bad as audit though!).

Possibly something on what you consider to be the most valuable skills that you have developed over your time working within accounting and finance?

You did a video on what earnings look like in practise v industry a while back, are you able to add another earnings expectation video focusing specifically on the different exit opportunities from Big 4 Audit and the potential long term career path you can take? (so compare Financial Analyst within comp vs equity research in bank vs Other department such as Corp Finance/Advisory/Tax within Big 4 v Mid tier firms vs Financial Controller jobs vs any other potential jobs people take after qualifying in Big 4 Audit grad scheme?) (May not be easy to do this but if you could would be great as trying to gage what a long term career path and earnings potential are like in different exit opportunity routes isn't easy but having a clearer picture of what the options are and things to consider and weigh up when thinking of exit strategies would be really helpful.

hi Paul, sorry more or less a question, are there any senior roles where you can job share in the industry like for instance i know senior managers in practice (audit) who only work half weeks. Also how is easy is it to transition back from industry to practice in your experience.

I'd like to hear more on working in the field. Especially things that newcomers would need to know.

Would love to hear some advice on the things to do / avoid in your first few months of employment in a new company. I'm joining commercial after 4 years in audit and quite nervous about it actually.

Doing Wales proud - keep it up. Always fancied a career in finance but followed a sales management/general management role instead. Progression seems to be a bit more organic in comparison to the more structured world of accountancy.

Really good video, so informative. Please upload more on what you do in the rest of the week. FBP is a role I would like to do one day, having watched your video! Always stayed away as I felt doing ACA (even in industry) makes me more of a reporting accountant rather than commercial.

I often think excel could be a stand alone class at school. When I think back to school days and how much I use French, German, Art & Design, Chemistry etc etc now, you could easily justify it.

ex PwCer here as well ;) agreed on most of your comments in prior videos. Just a question, do you sometimes find conflicts between commercial colleagues and financial standards? How do you solve them?

Your information is spot on. Sounds very different from a role that I went interview with (F&B industry) whereby the role is mainly being a FBP for 1 specific customer and the country. And, KPI is based on the KPI of the accounts.
