So true, sushi taste very badly outside Japan, which is very telling about how high quality vs medicore is. In my local sushi place, I ordered a set and it tasted very bad and I complained about the poor quality. The chef said he is a certified sushi chef and I asked if he ecer had been to Japan and tried sushi there and he not been to Japan even. That explains it all. Many western sushi "chefs" have never tried real sushi.

Personally I think traveling is exactly that; put your well-trodden paths into perspective. Anyway, may I suggest concentrating on the positives: The sushi maybe sucks, but you have trash cans around every second corner🙂 PS: Going to Japan from South Korea was a blessing in terms of finding a trash can. I researched it, all of Seoul has 3 trash bins. PPS: I learned to have a plastic bag on me (for the rucksack) where I can put my trash in, so at least I'll have my hands free when walking around.

The fashion and quality of clothes in America, even high end brands are terrible. I now buy mostly from Japanese brands, I don’t mind the high shipping costs.

Definitely the sushi isn't the same recipe in the west, they know what they do and also got the best wasabi (limited) in the world.🍣

So the thing about the trash cans is why you probably didn't see a single piece of litter anywhere. They finish before they leave and throw away their trash, vs here where people expect trash cans to be everywhere so we walk around with things and when your average person can't find a trash can they just litter.

go to shibuya past like 11pm and you will see mounds of trash

Westerners could not comprehend eastern cuisine because it consists of the chefs dedication and skill, not just the ingredients. That's why they couldn't replicate the quality unless they transfer the sushi master there. Everybody's all truffles and shit while sushi is just raw fish and rice lmao. It's a reverse process, prestige of an eastern chef are based on how many dishes he could do with cheapest ingredients (that's why there are so many variations of stir-fry spinach here lol)

European Sushi is so terrible, some of the horrors I've seen... The trash cans went after the Sarin attacks.
