As a retired CIA, this was interesting. I always worked at large firms like Nissan, ARCO ( oil - now part of BP) which focused on operational improvements, which attracted operations oriented peop!e - many were not CPAs. We focused on profit improvements, sometimes in the millions.

Hey Stephanie! This video was so encouraging and interesting. I think a general misconception regarding the idea of Internal Auditing, is that it only supports financial matters, when in fact it is primarily based on standards/principles and procedures. Thank you much for the info!

I have been in IA for 6 years but was interested to hear your perspective! I used gleim online to study for CIA and I would recommend it. I haven’t seen others but it gives you a proficiency score as you complete the sections which is pretty motivating. The practice test bank is really helpful because it explains the answers (right or wrong) and links you to the materials in case you want to get a refresh in a weak area or just further info. Also gives you a subunit summary which is good for studying. I didn’t use the videos, though.
@WithStephie4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! When I searched for exam prep material, Gleim kept popping up so I'm glad to hear it worked well for you! I'll probably not use the videos either. Thank you for sharing 💗 how has being in IA turned out for you?
@kassandrakohler16824 жыл бұрын
Stephie Mills the videos and audio files are kind of hilariously bad but it’s also just not my study style. I have loved IA! I transferred in from the business but had an accounting degree/MBA so I’m not the typical hire for my group (most are ex-pwc or right out of school). I also had the opportunity to do some external consulting work through the years so it’s been kind of the best of both worlds for me. I actually have been just offered a controller position in another organization and am really nervous about leaving IA since it’s kind of part of my identity now. But I can still be a control champion it seems good for career growth. Good example of where IA can take people, at the least.

Thanks for the video. I'm a first year senior at one of the big 4;'s and thinking about moving to Internal Audit. I've been doing interviews with a bank, a privately held organization which will focus more on operational audit as oppose to SOX. Do you think Internal audit experience with a bank/private company will be transferable skills and allow me to jump to senior internal audit roles with other companies in the future? Just don't want to pigeon hold myself as I know internal audit can vary from company to company, but the internal audit with bank seems to be a first step into the door to get into internal audit? Just not sure if I should look for internal audit roles that are more SOX focus (which would mean public companies).

I wish that I seen this before my Internal audit interview with a healthcare system. It was entry level and I'm coming from retail with a bachelor degree, came in second overall there was 8 people. Do you recommend to keep trying for internal audit and trying to gain experience this way? I know public is great experience but even those jobs are hard to come by after your out of school.
@WithStephie4 жыл бұрын
I really think external or internal audit are great places to start your career! External has more diverse exit opportunities (in my opinion) like general ledger, financial reporting or internal audit but still think internal audit allows you to see the full picture.
@TC-uf2hj4 жыл бұрын
Stephie Mills Well I recently received an offer from a hospital / healthcare system for entry level internal audit role! I'm really excited and I'm looking forward to learning more about it. How would you recommend I prepare for this job? Do you rely heavily on statistical analysis or is it more setting up the excel spread sheets? It seems public accounting is not what I want out of a career. I do not want to be apart of a partnership so climbing that latter seems detrimental to me. I feel like being exposed to an organization where I would want to grow and not jump ship after a few years would be the more beneficial way to go? I'm not sure honestly, I was even thinking of letting my degree go and not pursuing accounting anymore so I'm still in a shock about this offer. Thank you for being so kind.

@jg58752 жыл бұрын
They are drastically different. The differences are literally in the names. Audit is a lot of looking at controls and historical info. FPA is more about future budgeting/planning/ variance analysts, etc. IMHO FPA is more interesting and you learn more about how to run a business.
