I've learned so much from your videos Dave, but this one is solid gold. Your qualifying tips helped me get a high enough safety rating in D, that all I needed in C was 4 time trials for my MPR and I was a B. This is a must-watch for anyone looking to get away from the carnage in Rookies and D class. Thank you!

If you have the Nurburgring combined and a gt3 car, I highly recommend the class D endurance race, even with several bad crashes it’s like 3-4sr in 4 hours. Not 0.3, 3. Also really fantastic practice. Helped me get to A, I did that race and the class B time trials.

Gday Dave. Darron from down under. Have been playing iracing but as stated in your video my SR plummetted to point that I suspended my account (for a few days) in frustration. I watched your video and took it into account and did as much practise and as much qualifying as I could but started at back (slow qual laps). I then tried best to avoid anyone looking to take me out and let others fly off etc especially on first lap. In 4 races in the GT4 at sandown (my fav track by the way 15 mins from my home) I have gone from 1.2 SR to 3.5 and also got my IR above 1000 again. Gonna keep doing this for a while as working great for me so thanks for doing the video and giving me the inspiration to hopefully start enjoying iracing again. Cheers mate. Stay safe.

If you are fine with hotlapping for a while, and are really desperate to save your SR. You can also do time trial runs (not to be confused with time attack challenges), there you also gain SR, although quite a bit slower. But you are on your own so it is saver
@Shizumiru2 жыл бұрын
I love iRacing, but the safety rating is so broken imo. For small contacts (just like irl racing) you get punished way too much, x4 should count only if one of the two spins or go off track, small taps shouldn't count, or at least 1x. Sometimes you get 4x because of netcode or not existing contacts. I hope in the future they'll re-adjust the sistem.
@liamfraser4522 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree. If you think of safety rating as how much money you have irl and each contact is going to cost you whether you were at fault or not, it makes you (or some) race accordingly amd make decisions like irl. I do on the other hand think collisions should be toned down just a touch. Not grand turismo just a couple of percent or so. Maybe up the threshold for when a 0x contact turns to a 4x contact.
@harald21012 жыл бұрын
I disagree too. There would be no reasonable way to steward these incidents otherwise without everyone being butt hurt or using exploits. Small contacts are now very often ruled as 0x which improved the situation a lot too
@mattheisen77 Жыл бұрын
I completely agree! If you see for example, stock cars on ovals... Little bumps are normal in that kind of racing and sometimes you get penalties for that. it's broken
@raphaelbird8165 Жыл бұрын
So my opinion is to keep everything as is MINUS if someone one is hitting you in the rear. That is the only thing I can see that you are completely not in control of. Everything else is the driver. Off track, spins, side swipes etc. because at that point you as the driver are making the choice to move or push in such manner.

Thanks Dave for all the good advice, but that said I learned a valuable as a relative rookie now Iracing for about 4 weeks. I raced at Laguna Seca last week and wasn't doing stupid things thinking about my SR, while I was in p2 I was hunted down by a guy. he was really putting the heat on. I ran wide at T10 and managed to get on track, but he had more top speed and tabbed me wide in T11. I nearly went off, and he passed me. I said "Thanks"". Next lap I saw he was Fast here but slow there, he was clearly "overdriving" and he was unpredictable, he for some reason was early braking for T11. I was too late and did not anticipate his braking. I pushed him, and he almost spun. I was in p2 again., he fell back to p5, and the next laps p3 and 4, gained on me. Last lap at T7 under the uphill to Crockscrew, I zigged where I should have sagged. I turned in on P3 and spun, him p3, p4, and myself. P5 (who I pushed earlier at T11)got around clean and became P2. The 2 guys who'm I spun ended at P 3 and 4 me at p5. Then p2 finisher had a hizzy fit towards me. I watched the replay for my POV but checked Mister Hizzy fit''s race POV too. He was erratic understeer oversteer, not consistent, not predictable, and left others no space on corner exits forcing them off the track. I looked at it from all sides, all angles, and yes he had a moment under braking that ended him a slow entry in T11 just before I hit him. I was gutted that I did not play it saver, and yeah felt/still feel terrible for those 2 other guys. But I went to take a look-see at his profile afterward too and his SR and IR were almost on par with me, but I'm only 4 weeks in Iracing it. He has multiple years in Iracing, I should have listened to your advice better Dave, some will never learn and keep low SR and IR be careful, in control, predictable, drive conservative, and fair. I learned it the hard way, I know ""You told me so ;)"" Anywho I'm grateful for the lesson. And oh boy did this change my approach to race in Iracing, thanks Dave :)

Thanks for the video Dave. My technique is a wee bit different than yours. I simply enter really long races, start from pit lane and run a clean race. In most cases, I can maximize my SR gain while minimizing the hit to IR because so many other drivers will crash out.

The only issue i have with others not qualifying and starting from the back is that alot of people are impatient and run over slower drivers like myself. I have lost count of the number of people who have hit me from behind and gave the excuse that I was too slow.
@davidius742 жыл бұрын
I know the feeling. I never qualify as I am often one of the highest numbered cars. I use Time Trials on each track each week to do laps and get used to how the car drives on the track as each car handles each track differently. Sure the SR gain is not as much as racing but you don't have to worry about other cars and can just run your laps. Then drive to drive as safe as possible in the race to help boost it.
@rover13742 жыл бұрын
I agree. Tbh I am sick of those ‘fast’ cars skipping quali to do the whole back to the front of the pack thing. Every overtake increases the risk of wrecking and many of them get impatient with slower people In front and go in aggressive, and the less skilled person can’t handle it as well as them and bin it. That’s the whole point of quali. You start where you should. Starting from the back of the pits for SR isn’t too bad if you are just racing clean and not going in hard.

It didn't work for me Dave, maybe I missed something? I tried this in the same series / track this week. I don't have a very high irating, but a very good SR, but I always want it to be better. I wanted seat time in the Porsche 992, so I joined a race in which I ended up in the bottom split which was lower than my rating. I was nervous and decided to skip qualifying. It put me mid pack on the grid, so I decided to try starting from the pits as you suggested. The field was so bad I came out of the pits and was caught up to the back of the field by turn 1! I navigated around some carnage a few times and ended up with only 3x off track by the end of the race which I thought wasn't bad considering. In the end I finished 6th out of 20 cars, but lost SR which surprised me and gained a little irating which was opposite than I expected. lol

Is it just me or does the Xs seem to be given out much more liberally now, I mean the slightest contact results in 4 or 5x and I have also noticed irating increases much slower now after a decent finish. Could that be a result of that I was A class and demoted to B? iRacing is not equitable as to how it deducts and adds irating points. Good to know that, I’ve been missing practice, and not doing quail. Nice one 👍

Wait, the off-tracks contribute even in practice?
@davecamyt2 жыл бұрын
In the short practice before qual yes 👍

Better than starting at the back of the grid is to leave the session and rejoin once the start timer has finished. You’ll see the countdown in the green join button. This will start you in the PIT so you can avoid attempting to start at the back of the grid but dealing with everyone else who ends up behind you anyway from not doing qualifying etc

Bumping’s racing end of story. Stay in the back of the pack if you want your safe space
@noahhaynes19172 жыл бұрын
I'm gonna say, I would recommend against this if possible. I just think it's not gonna help long term from experience and dies down excitement of racing. Kept my A by just racing and forgetting about it, seems like the better way to gain. Also, if you want to help your SR, race Open series, you gain almost x2 more SR than usual

Wait, safety rating also counts in quali? 🤦
@davecamyt2 жыл бұрын
Yes, and the short practice beforehand too 👍

Why bother with the 0x hits in qually? Why not just start from the pits every time?

So I can use the track time to increase my safety rating and not actually set a time 👍

Dave when your judging people off their safety rating do you ever think what someone is thinking looking at yours haha

Absolutely! If that makes them give me a wide berth I'm happy 😁

The fact that you sometimes HAVE TO lose iRating just to even stay in your license class is beyond me... it's way too strict in A-class.
