An idea for your daughter getting the sewing kit- add a “Micheal’s trip” coupon to the gift box so she knows she still has more coming. It feels more like a present than if you just tell her it’s happening, and she may feel less awkward asking to go if she knows confidently that it’s a gift because of the paper copy. Such a great gift!

I actually really liked this. I think it’s far better, when you have a budget to do quality over quantity. A huge amount of thought has gone into these gifts and regardless of what others may say, I don’t think the children will feel short changed at all! The family gifts are great, and again, for those questioning buying 1 item to cater for multiple kids, well, that’s how big families work people! You learn to share and take turns pretty early on 😄. Have a wonderful Christmas everybody xx

Growing up my mom only gave us one or two presents because that’s all she could afford but honestly I when I was young I thought that’s just what Santa gives and was always grateful and excited every morning to see what I got. I feel like you just value the gift/s even more when you’re not overwhelmed with so many presents. Plus extended family always gave us more presents.

I agree with the approach to cut down on presents. I have 8 children myself and over the past few years I have focused on limiting presents and being intentional about what we buy (even though we are better off financially than we were when we were doing 5-8 presents each). In the past few years, I have I have done the "something to wear, something to read, something they want, something they need" approach where they get 4 gifts a piece (plus a stocking and a jolabokaflod gift). This year the approach is "something big, something small, a stocking and a gift for all." The small gifts are turning out to be a handful of like-themed gift for some of the kids that will be packaged together (like stationary along with a wax seal kit and such). They will still get a jolabokaflod book and candy on Christmas eve and a stocking of course.

An idea for next year could be an experience gift like a coupon to go to a movie. Tickets to see the Nutcracker ballet, there might be a smaller production thats cheaper, I know those tickets are sometimes crazy expensive. But they have various versions on DVD so the experience could be going over to a relative or friends house to watch with them. Just some ideas.

If your library uses Libby app they have a ton of middle grade books you can borrow then transfer to the kindle. Though you do have to remove them from your kindle library once they are no longer available on the phone app/able to be read. The app gets rid of things automatically. Though not sure how that works with the kindle kids as kids aren't putting books on it themselves. I have a normal paperwhite 11th gen. Though once your kids are teens 13 they could upgrade to regular kindle and have them have their own amazon account no need to attach a credit card, gift cards can be used to buy kindle books just fine.

I am part way through this video, but I’m perusing the comments as I go. Good grief. Some of y’all need to chill out. The blatantly rude comments and the passive aggressive suggestions are just mind-boggling. Why do you care how many kids she has, how many gifts she gives them, and whether or not she likes clutter. And why in the world is it a bad thing that her kids might have to actually learn how to share something?! And do y’all truly think your snarky comments are going to change her or anybody else’s mind? I’m just lost. Did she offend somebody with an Internet following and they put out a call for the trolls to attack? I mean I truly don’t get why there are so many of you guys choosing this hill, this day.

I admire and appreciate parents who don't go overboard with gift giving. Christmas isn't about the gifts, it's a time to focus on why we celebrate this special day. If you want to gift more gifts, do it on their birthday (the day they are celebrated) Christmas is not their day to be celebrated, it's the day to celebrate Jesus. You keep doing it your way momma, don't worry about what others say. Keep "CHRIST" in Christmas...

My oldest (16) is getting an accoustic guitar. She has an electric guitar and takes lessons. My 14 year old requested I prepay for his video game that is coming out in March for his want. For his need he asked for new clothes so while the need is one package it has several pants, hoodies and new underwear too. My youngest 7 asked for a new switch game for his want. I was able to get 2 of the ones on his list used for less than one was new! For his wear he asked for Nike Air Jordan's! He loves shoes.

Not getting your kids everything they want is so important to teaching contentment in our children. So many kids don’t know what that is like and I think it’s proving to be a problem. We've bought our kids tons of stuff that they wanted just for it to go unplayed with. I'd rather do a couple of meaningful gifts that will be truly appreciated and used rather than waste money on stuff they want for a day just because their friends have it. Too much stuff can overload a child's sensory. People put too much emphasis on trying to do what everyone else is doing. Keep doing what's best for your family and focus on doing good in our world and stop judging others.
@Jill-o8r9 ай бұрын
It depends on the families budget. I like to keep it around 10 each but smaller items because they like that. This year money is tighter so probably 7 each. The more kids you have the less they get each, makes sense to me. 2 each is not bad and there is a lot of nice drawing stuff there.
