New Capenna: Wizards tries to release a dedicated three-color limited set, but releases another two color set, and not even all 5 colors are viable. Dominaria United: Wizards somehow releases an "up to 5 colors" limited set. And defender somehow!?

This limited format was designed by the same person who designed Neon Dynasty. I think we need them to design all limited formats going forward :)
@altromonte152 жыл бұрын
The problem with Capenna was that there was no incentive to go full 3 colors, occasionally you had a 3color card to splash, but most of the time commons and uncommons were really pushed, you played on curve and didn't need anything else Dominaria has domain, an actual incentive to get multiple colors
@fulltime45452 жыл бұрын
IDK, I always played 3-colored decks in capenna and was pretty succesful overall.

Almost everytime I've seen Karn hit the board with a gummed up field, if it was allowed to ultimate with 2-3 powerstones/artifacts, it was almost always an eventual game ender. Sure, the opponent can just muscle through it and race the pings, but often good Karn decks are controlling, and having such an inevitable win condition is so nice.
@michaelmaniloff92972 жыл бұрын
I agree. I was surprised how sour everyone was on that card immediately.
@junhianling2 жыл бұрын
What surprised me was that even without much artifacts or mana karn can just outright generate so much card advantage that if he isn't removed on the turn it came down he'll just overwhelm the opponent. Turns out just paying 1 random spare mana for 1 card every turn was pretty good
@irou952 жыл бұрын
@@junhianling yeah it's a 4 mana phyrexian arena if you have an even board. Just plus once and draw 5 cards. Or if the game goes really long you can draw a card every other turn after 4 draws. But the fact that karn is colorless so IT goes into literally every deck I would first pick him every time. B+ for me. Not a bomb but autoinclude in every deck for sure

Meanwhile Founding the Third Path ended up being most likely a new staple in Esper reanimator decks. The value is off the charts in constructed, but yeah in draft was always going to be a dud.

Wonder if Phasing of Zhalfir would’ve been at least viable if it said “For each non-token creature destroyed this way…” It’s only about as much of a bend as returning a token to hand in blue is a de facto exile.
@matkiley172 жыл бұрын
Yeah that would've been a better wording. I've had it basically be a pump spell against me when it was played and destroyed 1/1 soldier tokens just for them to become 2/2's.
@karlcoates27682 жыл бұрын
Did you earn the achievement this draft season where your opponent plays phasing of zhalfir on step 1/2, and before they hit step 3 you play captain's call? I know I did. Opponent did the ol' pause, then scoop.
@davispo75502 жыл бұрын
I think Stronghold Arena doesn't need too much of a build-around if you go WB aggro, as there's enough fliers and creatures of MV=3 or under. That said, I think it caps out at C+ anyway

Founding the third path is not an F by any means, I've made it work a couple of times with decks full of instants (and one or two repossessions) and it felt very good, it is sure a build around card but it must be at least a D
@NizzahonMagic2 жыл бұрын
I don't think so, the data supports that it does more harm than good when you play it.
@stefanoderosa95062 жыл бұрын
@@NizzahonMagic I'm not saying that it's good, just that F to me sounds like "straight up unplayable" (like for example Urza assembles the titans) which founding clearlg isn't either
@stefanoderosa95062 жыл бұрын
@@NizzahonMagic using again a removal spell was always great. The sinergy with repossession was very good Then the self mill on chapter 2 allowed some more shenanigans: tolarian terror and writhmass discounts, targets for repossession and the third chapter of founding itself... In a tuned UB(G) deck it was more than fine. I would rate it as a D- in an average deck and a D+/C- in a synergistic deck.
@LlywellynOBrien2 жыл бұрын
@@NizzahonMagic In fairness the data is a little insensitive in this area. In theory a card might look better than it could be in a vacuum because it is easy to use (like some signpost uncommons which really help the player in drafting and games) while another might look worse because it is harder to make work.
