I can't believe it's been 3 years since I first started working as a software engineer. With all the experience and knowledge I've gained I figured it would be great to share with you all. It's been a long journey but I'm very happy with where I've ended up.

I just had my first performance review in my first Software Engineering job out of school (just graduated in May). I did super well and got such good praise HOWEVER, the point you made about asking questions is huge. My boss told me he appreciates my ability to dive in and do all I can to solve a problem, but there have been bugs / issues I try to tackle on features I do not know about in our code base that he easily could help with. He mentioned to just reach out more and get help from the seniors and himself. This is a huge deal. Never, ever be afraid to ask for help. It makes life so much easier! Keep up the videos man. They are inspiring an ordinary guy like myself to do the same!

As a hispanic kid growing up in the hood I never thought I'd be pursuing swe, that isn't a thing in the city I live in and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to relate to other sw engineers. Knowing that I'm not the only one that feels this way is really relieving since I'm also not the type to be coding for fun on the side unless I need to like my peers at school. Thanks for sharing bro you definitely deserve a like and sub.

5:00 - 5:25 Misconception about coders is that we just have to type on our laptops all day. No need to talk with people. Just code. That's not true. Collaboration, updates, and feedbacks are parts of programming.

Great key lessons mentioned here. One lesson I can say that I’ve learned, it’s vital as you continue to grow in this capacity (especially if you’re looking for leadership opportunities), continue to have some involvement in the code. It can be challenging juggling people management, a fully loaded calendar of meetings and still make individual contributions, but it’s important to stay relevant in the tech stack. Find the balance. Take on smaller stories or at the very least do code reviews for some of the features. Also, when opportunities present themselves to mentor/coach junior devs, take advantage of it. Pour into others.

Haha feels like I'm listening to my own developer story. This touched on a lot of what I have/am experiencing. Thanks. A helpful advice I'd give is staying motivated despite the self-doubt at times, and making use of people that inspire you & reaching out to those that'll be willing to help. People like AmigosCode, Chris Sean, Forrest Knight inspired me a lot.

It feels like as tech grew older, it was joked about less, and taken more seriously. Most people I was around didn't care at all about tech in any sort of way. None of the different circles I was in even considered the industry. It wasn't talked about around me at all. The increase in awareness of it as a possible career, and in its acceptance among everyone seems to grow as time moves forward.

Aerospace Engineer here - Impostor syndrome is incredibly real for me, also considering the fact I had a pretty subpar GPA when I graduated. One experience I had while having my first year annual review with a supervisor was: While we were talking I mentioned how I felt way in over my head at times and that I even felt overpaid. He responded by saying “Look, we dont just pay you for the physical work you put out, we also pay you just to think and have an opinion”. It was crazy that this simple statement made me feel 100x better lol So as you said, just tell someone when things dont feel right Anyways great vid man, trying to grow a channel myself and its nice seeing a fellow POC creator (shameless self plug)

i think HP is one of best computer brands: what could be ideal for you? - OS: WINDOWS 10 or more. don't go to ChromeOs. - Processor: INTEL i5 or more. don't go to *celeron* . - Processor: INTEL 10th or more. ie new generation pc. - Ram: at least 8GB, is recommended 16GB. don't go 4GB. - Ram: DDR4 or more - memory: don't use HardDrive. use 250Gb SSD or more. 500GB is recommended. - size: it depends on your tastes, I personally prefer small 13 inches to take it everywhere, but if you want to be productive maybe a 15 inch. - trackpad: forget about having trackpads like those of APPLE, I suggest you try in the store and see if you like it, the bigger the trackpad the better, and I like it if it's buttonless, so you can click everywhere in trackpad, Right for right button, Left for left button. - cost: 600 € difficult to find at this price. don't pay too much if you are a KIDS: a PC has RGB, those with RGB are often a marketing technique. dont pay 1000€ because you dont know PC datasheets, you think for you RGB is a good PC. No. you have to think about the quality-price.

What language would you recommend for a beginner Java or Phyton?
@The-Dev-Ninja
@The-Dev-Ninja 3 жыл бұрын
-C is the best language for begginer.- don't go to java. java assumes you know what classes are, libraries, and much more ... So go python it says on the web that it's easier, again you will use classes but much later. (and i used for very interesting thing like AI, data science, backend, if you are very expert) *I recommend Python course from Google Inc. in COURSERA!* if you want to learn it's interesting because it's free, and it's begginer level ... then if you finish the course and pass the quiz you will have the diploma (certificate) unfortunately if you want you have to pay it. I believe that for now you are only interested in learning so go to Coursera, it's free!
@The-Dev-Ninja
@The-Dev-Ninja 3 жыл бұрын
i dont know why the first line is crossed but python i think is for you. if you really want to learn the logic first, go to Scratch ... yes you will spend a few days before but it is useful because it is a block language. with that at least the logic on how programming works... then take the course, it's your choice.
