@@philliplangley9302 Be careful with letting the dachshund mixes jump on and off furniture and out of cars. 1/4 of them have the back problem that leads to ambulatory paralysis. The surgery to fix it runs $8-20k and is not usually long-term successful.

This video is especially important to me due to I’ve been researching Turkish Boz Shepherds. I want an independent thinking working dog. I have a lot of experience with different breads. However it has been just over the last number of months that I’ve been educating myself on the Turkish Boz. They seem to be the exact breed I’m looking for. Thank you again

@@nicoledow323 what do you think about Great Chihuahua? Serious question. I have a male great pyranese raised from 3 months old 100% with goats, sheep and pigs on a multi acre pasture. Now he's been an "inside dog". But like to be outside. The female Chihuahua come into heat. Long story short. He's a great inside dog even after being 100% outside with animals. Hes still intact and she comes into heat and it's a "great time". But not seriously but just think about it. The most ferocious predator know to earth, the Chihuahua, atleast mine. And the great pyranese, mine is the nicest most soft hearted dog ever. He wouldn't hurt a fly. He hardly does any guardian dog stuff now. He chased a rabbit and it turned and touched his leg and he yelped and ran away.

Nate, Great video! I'm glad you mentioned the health aspect! Plus, AZ being an unusual, less popular breed is good.. I like mixes, too, and 'hybrid vigor' is a thing. Minion looks like a pug/ chihuahua mix. Both 'companion' breeds. And very smart, in some ways. It is always a good idea to know what the dogs' breed is, if possible. Sure, Border Collies are one of the smartest, but if not herding, they need a job! But any breed that gets super popular seems to go downhill, being over bred! I do wish some dogs, for their own health and comfort would always be mixed, until changed a lot. English Bulldogs, Shar-Pei, Pugs, Chow Chows, all suffer badly, breathing, eye and skin problems! Toy Poodles, have a lot of problems from toes to tails! 👍🏼💙💙💙🥰✌

French bulldogs are absolutely awful health wise. Cavaliers tend to have a skull to small for their brain and they seemingly randomly scream in pain. Chinese crested have tooth issues but that's honestly any smaller breed. Crested just are known for it like in the new Deadpool movie how that dog had the tongue hanging out it's because her teeth aren't there. That dog was crested pug mix.
@laurajarrell6187
@laurajarrell6187 Ай бұрын
@daemonember While I agree that frenchies are unhealthy, (again, got popular! Badly bred) , back when I had Dobermans, in the 70s, there was a popular belief that their brain could grow too large, for skull, too. Making them 'turn vicious unexpectedly'. I talked to a scientist at Fosters and Grant who specialized in canine anatomy, especially anomalies. He said that cannot happen in any animal. The apparent pain pain in any 'pug faced' animal is more likely sinus and or dental. Like large breed dogs though, bull dogs have skeletal problems, often, too. But they also could get headaches from lack of oxygen. 💙🥰✌

I’ve had three dogs that were mutts. Got them from the Humane Society or the newspaper ad. sheltie cocker spaniel that lived 17 years. A springer lab cross that lived 16 years. And the little guy I have now that is half Chihuahua, 12% poodle?, 12% Pomeranian, and 25% God only knows. that’s according to the genetic test I did anyway. all great dogs in their own ways. The only purebred dog I’ve ever owned is my female German shepherd guide dog. she of course, has passed all the health tests, the school would not use her or breed the parents again if she did not pass those tests. She has more degrees than I do :-) and she’s brilliant. So any dog can be a wonderful dog. it just depends on what the dogs purpose in life is. But a working dog, one that you call a purposely bread, dog, definitely must be able to do the job they were bred to do. I wish the AKC would figure that out. and also, the worst thing that can happen to a dog breed is for it to become popular.

He has a bad under bite that I think is affecting his health because sometimes he chokes out of nowhere. I got appointment with a vet to check it out. Hopefully it’s nothing big. Has anyone had an experience like this with a dog that has a underbite?

Great topic Nate. You bring up so many good points and it's clear that you want the training and relationship to succeed so starting out with a purpose bred dog is key. Imho, and to elaborate, it's also so important to take into consideration the environment the dog will be brought into as well, but I think you did touch on that briefly as in the example of hundreds/thousands of acreage. I think the environment, whatever the breed is brought into, really needs to support them as well. Big dogs need space, tiny dogs not as much. Imo, big dogs living in small apartments and small/tiny dogs left outdoors are not very good combinations. Thank you for using opportunities like this to help educate us! ❤

Good breeders will breed to better the breed, and the only way they can really do that EFFECTIVELY is by having a personal use for that breed. That's how most ranchers and farmers become breeders to begin with. Any quality breeder worth their worth will always stand behind the dogs they breed as well, and they will work with and take back any dog that they sell. For anyone with dogs where they don't know what to do with their dog and are having behavioral issues or feel like they aren't doing enough with them: All dogs have a level of prey drive, utilize it and teach that dog how to do scentwork. Even just as a small game it will help exercise that dog in a way walks and runs will never touch. I like this video.

Exactly. Zeke was bred to a Working Pit Bulldog because the original plan was that one of his pups from that would be a Service Dog for a now former friend of mine. That all fell apart when said friend told us that she'd not even told her father she was getting another puppy to train to be her Service Dog. And now it turns out that that puppy (now an adult) has the wrong temperament for that job anyway. But he now makes an *excellent* hog hunting dog. Now I've got another litter on the way .. Zeke + AriYo with hopes that my keeper pup of this will be my 4th Service Dog someday .. and maybe one can be donated for free to a friend who needs a Service Dog .. and the rest to those who hunt hogs, or do Search-N-Rescue or other decent jobs. Always trying to br eed for purpose and better the breed .. as well as Preservation Breed.

I would strongly suggest not becoming a dog breeder. Even especially a dog breeder on social media. You’re gonna get people that just want your dog because it’s your dog. You’re gonna get constant criticisms, etc. Let somebody else do the breeding and you can do training and have fun with the dogs.

I personally think epigenetics are more favorable to indicate outcomes of behavior than overall genetics. As in, looking at the lifestyle of the dog over the last 3 generations. As in, Has it been active in doing what it is "born" to do. I have worked with dogs alot and found if there parents were allowed to run wild and their grandparents, the idea they would be able to tap into their genetics takes a lot of extra patience. But if a random dog had parents who cobbled shoes than somehow, they birth a shoe cobbler.... type shit lmao puppy mill dogs will always be stunted. Make a Minion with crisper corrected DNA

The only breeders I've been around were cockerspaniels and German shepherds. Open runs, no more than 5 doodoos done without clean up, straight teeth, and they need to have their whole assed set up to care for the dogs per each stage of life... Spaniel breeder literally had 7 studs, moms came in and had a whole assed human crib for birthing... 11 runs, Avery single dog was papered before it was old enough for a run... Pups had a separate place to learn potty etc. but she was breeding family dogs. The shepherds were very, very different

I think it’s important to try to find out what breed of dog you have if it’s not obvious and learn as much as you can about those breeds. Sometimes we expect things from a dog that just is not gonna happen because of their genetics and that’s OK. And by the way, I think minion is just wonderful. And I think you think that too. So I think you saying that you wish us genetics was better is not a. Slight to minion it’s just a fact that you wish she could be healthier. My second dog had hip dysplasia. Found out when she was three years old. I was devastated. Thankfully, she lived to be 16 years old, but she would not have thrived being a hunting dog, which is how she came to be. Two hunters went hunting one day and their dogs got together. She had all the instincts, but she didn’t have the physical, ability to run for miles on end in cold weather, etc.

Great video. I would add, that you should be careful mixing different breeds of LGD. You can end up with a coat that doesn’t shed correctly or Matt’s easily. Then you have a lot more maintenance than most people (and dogs) will tolerate. Also, if you live urban or on very small acreage LGD may not be a good choice. They tend to be very barky, are prone to wander and jump fences, and may decide to guard your whole block. Neighbours will not be pleased having your dog on their property chasing cats etc. It is also very difficult to rehome a LGD that has never seen a farm of that has been poorly trained and is chasing livestock. They are lovely dogs, but they are much easier to purchase than they are to sell. Thanks for doing some research.

Its very important to understand genetics, two recessive genes make a dominant. I've been into Belgian Malinois for pushing 3 decades. Not many here in the U.S.focus on a genetic and the traditional dogs purpose. If your breeder is serious about genetics they'll offer a lifetime guarantee. Not just make promises because of testing results. Dogs that are used for tools must be able to do the work to add value because the consequences can be devastating

I like to have pedigree papers so I can figure out the dogs' lineage. Health Testing is not common for the American Pit Bull Terrier, but, it is a working breed and often used to hunt wild hogs now that it's original purpose it was bred for is a Felony in the US. At least by helping capture these hogs, they help get the hogs' population in check annnnd feed their owners / communities! Both of my dogs are descendants of Colby's Pincher 24xW and The Gas House Dog 9xW aka McDonald's Grip 9xW (1870-1880s). AriYo's more recent ancestors were awesome hog hunters. Such as Southern Inferno's Mad Jack. I love knowing this stuff! My keeper-pup's name will be Isaac because if he's anything like his parents, I've a feeling he will also keep me laughing a lot. * No, none of my dogs are used for any illegal activities! *

A "friend" of my uncle adopted a dog and then dumped him on us (i live with my uncle and his wife) for "training" because the dog trashed his place. the idiot had left this dog in his house ALONE for 12 hours while he was at work. The dog was only 9 months at the time. He was a shelter dog, and this guy only had him for like 2 days. we were only supposed to have him for 2 weeks, but the moment I saw him I knew that he wasn't ever leaving. I'm the only one who's been training this dog, and it took a couple weeks for him to stop peeing on the floor, a MONTH for him to get out the junk he ate at the guy's house (fish take rocks had calcified in his stomach, causing him to both vomit pellets that smelled like death and diarrhea), and still every day I work on building up trust with him so he wants to impress me and be more trainable. Which brings me to the whole point of my comment: it has taken a lot of effort on my part to train this dog and make him a good family pet, and it's still a work in progress. This guy gave up after 2 days. Instead of going, "Hm, maybe I should just not have dogs" you know what he does? HE GETS A PUG PUPPY INSTEAD! Edit: Immediately after typing this, i forgot to mention that the dude who dumped his dog onto my family came over recently for the first time since he left the dog here, and this absolute j*ck*ass (censorship so my comment wont be deleted) left the backyard gate open twice, letting the dogs out. I locked the gate after the first time, so I assumed they were fine going out next time. The puppy managed to get all the way across the street before i noticed, and it was in the middle of the night. I'm 90% sure he only came back because he could hear me calling, yknow, because of the training we've done. Anyways, sorry for the rant. I just don't like pugs, but I hate this man more. I hope that pug puts him several thousand dollars in debt for vet bills.
