Well good food for thought. I'm in a ocean kayak Trident for bigger waters. Hoping to upgrade next fall. Looking at different models now. May just add a Bixpy to my Trident. Really like the old town salty, Hobie revolution13, Hobie outback ..and now I'm going to add this and the compass to the possibilities. Mostly want to chase trout, salmon and walleye in the great lakes...with something I can car top. Thanks for the info!

Could not agree more. I have the 10.5 and it is an amazing little boat. Try the sailkit it is a lot of fun.

I have an inflatable Hobie iTrek11 for when I am traveling in my Mercedes Sprinter, which I love and I just bought a Passport 12 R on sale for my liveaboard trawler. I went with the R (rotomolded) version which is a better construction method and more durable and stronger than the Passport 12 thermo version; and the 10lbs. extra won’t make much of a difference when loading.

Thanks for sharing. I have two 22' ascend paddle kayaks and am looking to upgrade, the passports seem like a good value for what you get without jumping up to the 5k mark

Do you like the roto mold or the original two piece? I had the option to buy either.

I should put together a video on this topic. They both have a few pros and cons. I like the white bottom of the original and the finish. The roto mold surface is mat and mine has little surface pits in some places. Accordingly, I find the original surface is a little easier to keep clean. But I'm told the roto is easier to fix if it becomes damaged. And the seat clamp is more secure with the new roto model. Also, I like the transducer position in the roto mold - which is closer to the stern. I troll a lot, so I feel the stern position may make it a little easier to pick up the depth of my larger clip-on weights, which is a big plus. Either way, they are both pretty similar.

What do you think about their inflatable units? I noticed you talk a lot about portability.

I don't know much about the inflatable kayaks. Sounds like a good idea if you want to take one on a trip and just want to pack something like this in the car. I like to fish, so I'd be worried about snagging it with a hook. If you get one, let me know how you like it. Thanks, Dan

yours are 10.5 or 12 footer?

I started with a 10.5, but sold it earlier this year and I now own two 12; so my wife and I can take little trips together. The 10.5 was great for starting out, because it is lighter, cheaper, easier to store. But for fishing, the 12 has just a few more bells and whistles to make it a much more desirable kayak. I would suggest trying to find a dealer and ask to try one out before you choose.
