We've started using bearvaults instead of a food barrel and harness. I thought the vaults would be too limiting and heavy but honestly they have been awesome and we single portage with no issue. I'll likely not go back to a barrel, I've heard too many stories about algonquin bears getting at hangs and the barrels offer no security once they're one the ground. To each their own, I'm looking forward to watching your other videos they are great!

I would give them a try, but we also like the ease of packing all of the cooking materials into the barrel as well and hanging all of it. I will have to try a bear vault to compare and contrast. Thanks for watching!

@@katrinavanosch For us anything that touches food or has a scent goes in the vaults which means that our meals and cooking methods have had to adjust so everything fits. We are about to head out for 6 nights and everything for 2 people fits in smell proof bags in 2 vaults. I understand that some people would really struggle with the adjustment coming from bulky food and cookware.
