Update on "The Occult" book: I started reading it after I had already filmed this video. There are many historical inaccuracies and the book is one giant word vomit from a philosopher who didn't practice anything himself. At first, I was excited to read a book from a skeptical non-magical practitioner, but his perspective seems limited rather than unbiased. To add, I thought it would be a comprehensive overview of the occult, but it turns out this book is about his opinions as well as what he has personally cherry-picked important enough to discuss. It was also written in the 70s so prepare yourself for some passive sexism and racism which is pretty normal for that timeframe. He discusses how women are regarded as evil in the occult world, which I thought was hilarious, as well as how women are unable to make rational decisions due to their emotional nature. However, this type of thinking was normal for the 70s so I wasn't too offended by that. He also discusses how most witches who were burned during the witch trials deserved it. Not very "unbiased" in my opinion... Read at your own discretion but I'm pretty sure I will not be finishing this book.

It’s totally OK to be picky about the look & feel of books. I’m neurodivergent, & am VERY sensitive about the texture of book covers & whether they have a matte or glossy finish (& if the latter, whether they’re TOO glossy), the feel & look of the pages, whether the spine breaks too easily, etc. (I’m with you on short & wide books, BTW.) The weight of a book is a big deal for me, too. Along with the books on werewolf magic, The Occult jumped out at me, but something tells me holding that one for more than a few minutes could be downright painful (so thanks for the heads up about that one!).

As a silent lurker from your channel, I had to comment just to tell you that I absolutely agree with your view on dragon magick. I also had the same intuition of approaching them “blind”. I think because most of what we have on dragon magick is so intertwined with the practitioner’s own experiences that no one can truly make a generalization of how to work with them, because both the practitioner and the dragons in question (or rather their energy, if that’s the model you’re working with) are so unique. I guess the same can be said about any type of magick but although we all may have different options concerning rituals and tools and whatnot, the dragon path on the other hand is not so easily defined. I also think that, in today’s modern world with the answer to whatever we want to know being a google search away from us, it’s good to have the field experience, if I can call it that, to simple walk a path and see for ourselves where it goes with no preconceived expectations. I feel like I’m rambling now, but anyways. Truly enjoyed this video, thanks for taking the time to share it with us. I’ve bought a few of the books you recommended and I really liked them. If you feel like adding more to your collection (oh what am I saying, I know you’re bibliophile like me lol) I’m currently reading The Mist-Filled Path, Celtic Wisdom for Exiles, Wanderers, and Seekers by Frank MacEowen. It’s not necessary about trees but the worldview transmitted in it can enrich any relationship with human or non-human persons I think, maybe you’ll enjoy it.

I too love learning and researching different magical subjects, my only problem is how to incorporate that into a regular routine. As in practical actionable steps or activities 🤔 any suggestions there? Like how does your current routine look when it comes to your spiritual practices? As in. Say you want to dive more into shapeshifting astrally. How are you going to put this into a consistent practice? What activities are you going to try and how? Does that make sense? I always struggle with how to put all that knowledge into an actual practical thing..I meditate, I do yoga, but then what? What if I don't feel like creating money spells or whatever or stuff like that? Is there any possible way to do magic...i don't know, more naturally? Instead of tools where you create sachets, bottles or whatever. I identify as my soul being non human. Not sure if you've ever heard of otherkin and starseeds but, back where my soul comes from? I could create fire from the palm of my hands or make tree branches extend and grow with the power of my own energy and inner magic. I guess the closest I can explain this is avatar the last Airbender or some kind of witchy anime.. how is it even possible to do magic as close to that? With just your own energy and power of intent..simply practice visualization? Lucid dreaming? Is that all one can do in this reality? Sometimes I just feel like an outcast in the witchy community because I don't resonate at all with all the tools people use. I wish I could just be in my true form the way my soul looks. Everything would be simple but earth life is hard 😂
@IvyTheOccultist
@IvyTheOccultist Жыл бұрын
I completely understand where you're coming from when you say that you don't feel like you quite fit in with the witchy crowd. Same here! To answer your question about how to implement these practices and what my routine looks like... That's so hard to answer because it's always changing! I find that I am a very passionate and intense person. Oftentimes what happens is that I will hyperfixate on one magical system, do a deep dive, and then that's all I practice for the following month. Then I switch to a completely new paradigm. Honestly, I don't know if I have the best advice for how to implement these techniques into your practice because my own is so sporadic and chaotic and driven by boredom. 😂 But here's a thought... When I do astral work, I often do it in the bath tub when I'm taking a bath. Or in bed as I'm lying awake at night and can't sleep. I have incredible experiences in the astral realm that feel just as you mentioned with fire being created between your hands. Any time your mind is bored, stressed out, anxious, try shifting your energy! For me, it's helpful to go on an astral journey through visualization when I'm lying in bed at night and I can't sleep. It's way better than just laying there and staring at the ceiling. You definitely don't need all the common witchy tools to practice. Most of what I do is in my head and it creates real results in the mundane world. ❤️

That you choose a day where you are always accurate about your predictions, you see someone and think "their aura color looks like x" even if it's wrong to build up your own confidence in a sense and I thought that was awesome. Still trying to figure out what day to choose and what archetype to embody 😅 I liked that its directed to finding our way back to the childlike wonder. As a child we didn't worry about things like now Honestly, my biggest thing when it comes to my spirituality is that I want to connect and communicate deeply with my spiritual team and find my purpose as a witch. Still not sure what that is yet or how it looks like but being able to watch youtubers like you definitely makes one feel less alone. Thank you for your suggestions and response. It made my afternoon 😊

i'm super jealous of people who can devour books. it takes me forever! sometimes i just 'cheat' and get the audio if one is available. - i will be super curious to hear your uninitiated dragon experiences vs what you learn after studying. awesome and brave experiment! (i've no experience with dragon spirits) - the tree field guide sounds incredibly useful, i didn't even know they had one, thank you for that. - and yes, i too love it when a magick book takes me back to an old or ancient time! it's the best! - again, much appreciate everything; you really know your stuff!!! 🪐

Haha I wouldn't even consider audio books cheating! I read a study once that the same regions of the brain are being activated whether you are physically reading a book or listening to an audiobook. So hey, however you can get the information, go for it! 😆 And thank you - I'm excited for a dragon magick video in the future after I finish a much needed deep dive! 🙏

want to learn shape-shifting within journeying (astral), check out book from Felicitas D Goodman. key words for personal researching would be ecstatic trance postures. absolutely wonderful books on achieving trance (using rattle/drums) and journeying through trance using body postures.

I'm totally with you on the ancient Egypt vibe, lol! My favorite place to go was the local Rosecrucian museum where there were "pyramid" rooms we could go in. ❤

The Black Arts is a great book! I loved it. Just be weary, it's from the 1960s, so it can be a little... misogynistic at some points. Still a lot to get from it, in my opinion.

Yeah when I saw it was from the 60s I began mentally preparing myself for some passive sexism 😂 Glad to hear it's a great book though!

Just here to comment and say that you’re my favorite occult KZbinr! I love how in-depth and thorough your content is. I’ve been on the hermetics path for a few months now and I’ve been working through Initiation Into Hermetics. I’m only on step 2, but wanted to say that Rawn Clark’s companion workbook has helped me stay focused and it’s a quick reference since Franz Bardon’s book is theory + practice. The work book is a great outline. It definitely takes commitment, but so far it’s been worth it!

Well this video just added at least half a dozen books to my list lol. I'm currently reading Poison Path Herbal by Coby Michael and it's a fascinating read. I'm planning to deep dive into some Astro-magic and maybe some Quantum Spirituality stuff. The astrology and physics stuff is a little intimidating, but I need a challenge, so it should be interesting.
