I'm Mexican and going to Berlin for a semester abroad, and your videos have really helped me out because after seeing your experience, I'm more calm and also more excited! Thank you for being so amazing, keep up the great work! :)

Thank you for being amazing and watching/supporting this small channel! Berlin is such a cool and fun city, I think you will have a great time there. If you have questions or want me to talk more about a specific topic regarding study abroad you want me to discuss, drop a comment in my comments section or message me on Instagram. I just want to help as many people as possible as I know that study abroad can be out of everyone's comfort zones and there aren't many people who are willing to be honest about every aspect. Have fun in Berlin and on your semester abroad!

Hey! I tried menstrual cups too. Because I'm going to china for a while and they don't really have tampons. But I had to switch back to them, because 1. I never knew how long I could keep them in without having to clean it and 2. how does one clean them in a public bathroom? any ideas? I'm definitely going to bring tham with me but taking tampons with me anyways

It depends on your menstrual cup, but most companies suggest they can be in for a maximum of 12 hours before needing to be emptied and cleaned for healthy reasons. To be safe, I treat it like a tampon and empty and clean it every 4-6 hours. The company Lunette sells wipes specifically for cleaning cups on the go, if you would rather use a soap, they also sell soap specifically for cups that is safe for your body as well (and it smells great!) in a larger bottle but you can put it in a travel sized bottle for on the go purposes. It's suggested by most companies and users just to keep a bottle of water and like napkins or tissues that won't leave bits of cotton in your cup with you for cleaning in public places, so you can at least rinse it and wipe it out and then wait to fully cleanse at home. I would definitely research your options and care suggestions for your menstrual cup and see what you're most comfortable with and what you can afford, as some cleaning products are more expensive than others! :) Personally, I haven't run into a situation where I've had to empty and clean it in public.

Your videos are so helpful (and a huge reassurance that I'm doing things right!) I'm from NZ, heading to the Netherlands and then Mexico for a year on exchange at two different universities. I'm leaving soon and most of the things you were talking about are similar to things I'm buying! Also, you're super cute and I love your video style 😍

Thank you for the advice, I've been looking for videos Germany-specific. A capsule wardrobe will be a great idea :-) How much better would you say your German has gotten in a year, out of curiosity?

I’m studying abroad in south Germany, any suggestions??
@TheAmericanAbroad
@TheAmericanAbroad 6 жыл бұрын
The farthest south I went was Heidelberg so I can't tell you too much about the south, but can tell you what I've heard. I do suggest visiting Heidelberg haha, it's a quiet yet beautiful city. If you're going to be there around Oktoberfest and are interested in going, book your accommodations now. If you've been learning German via school/university/course, chances are you've most likely been learning Hochdeutsch, so be ready for really thick accents and differing dialects, they can be very drastic from the German you're used to. I would suggests watch videos on German spoken in your host city, to get you acquainted with the accent/dialect used spoken there. Take advantage of the vicinity to the bordering countries like Luxembourg, Austria and Switzerland. They are generally super expensive to travel to when you're not near the boarders. In terms of clothes, really be prepared with clothes that work with every season. Even in the middle of summer, Germany gets cold fronts where the weather will drop down to the 50s. If you have any other questions, feel free to drop another comment or message me on Instagram!

I went through a study abroad program through my university in Texas. So I didn't go to a university in Germany, just took classes through a program at the university.

Hi! I'm from México going on a year abroad to Germany too and I'm always cold, so I want to know if you remember the name of your jacket since the north face has a lot of triclimate jackets. Also, your videos have helped me so much!! especially this one and the one where you mention what not to pack!!
@TheAmericanAbroad
@TheAmericanAbroad 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry I'm just now seeing this! I unfortunately don't and I think because I bought it at an outlet mall for an incredibly reduced price, I don't think they sell this exact triclimate jacket anymore. BUT any of the triclimate jackets would be perfect for Germany and now is the perfect time to buy one, because the ones from this winter are all on sale online! I think mind was a trench style women's triclimate jacket, if that's helpful! I'm glad my videos could be helpful! If you have any questions or requests for specific videos about living in Germany, let me know! :)
