I was making plans this year, but....For financial reasons some modding and light crochet projects were done, BUUUUUT I finally started tracking my projects! Not perfect, but definitely helped me to improve, and create less and less abandoned projects on the way. Yeah, I love dark souls shawl pattern, but make another one immediately? Would be cool, but I needed project bags as well - next year it's going to be about the body block, so Halloween costume shall be finished, and with 2 version for the same basic black dress it'll be always ready for a costume party. Happy New Year everyone! ❄❄🖤🖤

The very pretty white and blue blouse can be improved with internal tabs that hold the blouse in relation to the bra straps. Really good quality women's garments used to come with these. You can make them by making fabric strips and attaching them to the inside of the blouse, usually this is done on the shoulder seam. One side of the strip (tab) is stitched to the blouse, the other has snaps to attach it to the blouse. This way you can loop it around the bra strap, snap the loop closed and now the blouse and strap stay together. I hope I've explained it clearly enough. Maybe I will make a short video showing these since these tabs no longer seem to be common knowledge. Really, 50 years ago everyone knew about these, but now nobody seems to remember them. Thank you for your channel. It's always nice to see what others are doing.

@@MaireColclough Or maybe an ankle drawstring so you can cinch them in for driving or putzing around the house? Maybe annoying to deal with though so don't know if it would be worth it. Or maybe just a small button to do a secured fold, kind of like pegging jeans?

I love the idea of finish- it up February! I've been wanting to be more time organized. This idea would be great! I'm currently looking for a job. And they are wonderful at the unemployment office. Telling me to breathe and I can bring a project to work on (knit/crochet and sewing would be it). Feeling really supported right now. I have a sweater that my son asked me to knit, I finished the second sleeve. However the first sleeve that I had (maybe 2 years in the making) stress over. I told him the end of January will be the least time. ❤❤❤❤

All those pretty clothes! How nice to see them all together! I absolutely agree about the pain of the jumpsuit when using a bathroom. I made my first one in red cherry silk back in the 70s. We went to a disco and, well going to the bathroom in the disco stall i got down to my underwear because i didn't want it to touch the floor... it didn't get much use after that. I never made another one. We are still doing gift exchanges. This year the season is long and drawn out with lots of small get togethers. Everyone was not sick this year, not exactly healthy but not contagious either which is a small victory over last year.

The cottage core blouse: if you can take it in center back it might help the shoulder issue. You can also add a few pieces of ribbon with a snap, that go around the bra strap to keep the top in place. The circle skirt out of suiting material, looks too full, can you make it a 1/4 or 1/2 circle instead? The culottes: Fabulous! They might be fun in a shorter length.
@MaireColclough
@MaireColclough Ай бұрын
I've considered snaps and ribbon on the blouse, but I think part of the problem is the sleeves are a bit too small. The poof doesn't poof properly. I may make a shorter length in the culottes for summer/casual wear, but it's unlikely I'll recut the skirt. At least not anytime soon. That suiting's a pain to work with. 😁

As a fellow narrow shouldered person, I find that sewing two small darts in the back usually do the trick if there isn't a center back seam. Sometimes I make a box pleat in the back if that looks better. The bra strap holders are also a great idea because they not only keep the straps from showing they keep the top from sliding down my arms. My back is very narrow and I carry most of my weight in front. What works really well for me on commercial patterns is to make the back 2 sizes smaller than my "size" and the front 2 sizes bigger adjusting the shoulders. I use the "correct size" sleeve. Remember, patterns are just a template.

Finish It February sounds… intense for me. There’s been baleful muttering from the yarn crypt - my son stole my WoolEase Thick and Quick blanket and is refusing to give it back until his is completed. I think I have enough yarn… now I just need to develop the forearm strength to work a king size corner to corner blanket; it took ages to recover from making mine.

I have 128 finished and joined together. It'll be a WIP for a while. 😊 I love to take part in Finish It February. I often spend that time seaming and blocking things, because I tend to do the fun part (the knitting or crochet) and then set the project aside to start the next fun thing. If you are in the mood to try another jumpsuit, then you might want to think about/ take a look at the Zadie jumpsuit by “ Paper Theory” which can also be made as a dress. So many started crochet projects: the blanket for a coworker's baby shower that stopped and had to make a new one when I discovered she had very specific colors picked out. This weekend I am finishing a donation blanket that was 2/3 done but had a missed row clear back at 1/3 done and I set aside to start the baby blanket. Blanket for myself that I started during Covid and it probably only needs a couple hours of work to finish but it was so long ago my brain just can't return to it. The blanket I started but never finished about two decades ago that I pulled out because my skills are so much better now and I want to make something better... Now the overwhelming feeling... ugh....

Nice makes. Well done you!!! I'm about to teach one of our Godkids how to sew. I'm starting them off with a 1920's pattern for an "Artist Smock". Swear to God(s), it looks exactly like the one Elizabeth Carre wore in her studio. Kiddo is in the artistic side of CGEP and is currently thinking of animation for further schooling. Start with a mostly formless garment (with pockets) with cuffed sleeves, I figure. Wish us luck... _Trick for Straps_ - The Victorians and the modern couture people have a small thin strap, with two poppers/snaps attached to either end of the fashion fabric strap. The corresponding snap is sewn into the shoulder of the garment. Slide the strap under the bra-strap and snap into position. Basically, you're making a fabric safety pin. Either the Met or the V&A have a video about a Chanel suit that was made for Loren Bacall - it's where I stole this from for my own clothing. All the very best of the New Year to you, Mister Husbeast, the wee fur babies. May it be full of peace and joy. - Cathy (&, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
