What I need in the GH6 for me to sell my GH5 - GH6 Wishlist

In this video I will go over what I would like in the Panasonic GH6 in order to sell my GH5 in 2020. Some of the features I would like aren't much to ask for like better autofocus and others are more of a wishlist item. I think we can expect big things from the Panasonic GH6. For a while there I would say all it would need is a better AF system. But now, it seems like most all of the other camera companies have caught up feature wise and are doing it in full frame. I think they will need to bring some HEAT with the GH6 or have it at a better price point to really compete especially being an mft system.

I agree! Other companies are catching up which I feel is a sign that the GH5 was ahead of its time minus the autofocus. I feel like they need to do something different this time or bring it like you mentioned. Fortunately I think there’s enough of a following for Panasonic that will help the GH6 sell well, but if they don’t come out swinging then I don’t think it will be enough for others to jump ship. I just hit the subscribe button, as a new KZbinr myself I know it helps! As for the GH6, I currently use the GH5 and for me I like dynamic range because then you don’t have to get the lighting perfect or invest in a lot of lighting and you can be more flexible with recording anywhere which is why I like the V-Log in the GH5. If I am showing something behind me I don’t like the background being blown out to expose for my face, or have to light my face to expose for the background. But I’ve found the current formats and V-Log although good to not be able to push them as hard when trying to bring out the shadows or mid tones or cut back on the highlights. Although the GH5 has good dynamic range, I think if they could do like Sony did and put the CF cards inside the SD cards and make it support raw or something else to be able to be more aggressive with the end file I would be happier, oh, and put full V-Log. I think the GH5 has the capability from the sensor to get a lot of data for example I’ve shot raw photos and you can really make some good recoveries in the shadows, mid tones and highlights. If I had my choice to have to perfectly light something or just use more storage, I would rather use more storage and bring less gear. I would also like better autofocus BUT for KZbin and the junk I put up, the autofocus isn’t usually bad for me and for photos which was the reason behind me getting the camera to begin with (KZbin came later) for phots the autofocus works good enough for me there too. I was reading Panasonic was developing an organic sensor which is supposed to be wicked in low light for the size and an electronic variable ND. Although I don’t use ND for video, I love it for photos, long exposure during the day is pretty wicked for artistic effects and I think anyone who uses MFT would love less noise in low light from the organic sensor. From someone like me who the video side equals a KZbin hobby, and phots as a priority, I wouldn’t mind a slight bump in megapixels too. BUT I don’t really want 6K or 8K. I like what canon has done with their HQ 4K I would welcome that on the GH6 a higher MP sensor could help r better 4K. Give us like a 32MP sensor and record that into 4K that’s super sharp. Also the what you said 4K60 at 10Bit 422 is a must for using V-Log, the more data that is in the image the better you can work with it. I think I may have missed a couple things but I think I’ve written enough. Keep making content!

For me my must have is a dual iso sensor that gets at least 1-2 stops better in low light. GH5s gets 2-3 stops better in low light so I think it's doable. Next would be 10 bit 4k 60 internally. Then 3rd autofocus.

they need to combine ibis with the 240 fps, but if they can do 300fps+ that would be better and yes better autofocus, but I've watched a video comparing it to eos R and it beat canon's autofocus! also the GH6 will not be 1 camera but 3 different models, aimed at photos, videos, etc

I’m not too concern with having higher frame rates, but I wouldn’t mind having them either. Just give me everything the GH5 has already plus good autofocus and I’ll be very tempted to get one. I'm hoping for dual native ISO, 6k video, better AF, and USB charging, without losing 422 10-bit unlimited recording in all modes, nor the IBIS. If they come out with that before I need to buy a new camera, I'll quickly convert to M4/3. Recording to SSD would really be nice, as would built-in ND filters. Space-wise, I don't see built-in ND filters being possible in this form factor.

Yeah I don’t think it’s a realistic thing for the built in ND filters, but maybe they could make an adapter of some sort. I think dual native ISO would be huge with this camera because it would help with the lowlight that the smaller sensor often struggles with. Thanks for watching!

Panasonic have announced the continuation of the GH line which they showcase under the banner of 'Mobility and High Speed' (I would like to think that High Speed refers to High frame rate recording) see 8 mins 52 seconds in for the announcement: @ They specify continuing with 2 systems. Yes, I saw this news recently too! You make a really great point about the 10-25mm F1.7. They wouldn't come out with a highly priced lens if they were planning on discontinuing the system it was designed for. Thanks for watching!

I actually don't care about auto-focus at all for the type of work I do. What I would love to see is a sensor as big, or a little bigger than the GH5s's sensor (It was a tad bigger than the GH5's sensor) or just try to put the biggest sensor they can put in there (super 35?.) I would also love to see true V-log (not V-log light) with more dynamic range (is 14 stops too much to ask) and it should be included. Also a better low-light, BSI sensor. Another huge and simple thing they could do is put a record tally light on the back (and maybe front) so I know when I'll recording! The little flashing record icon on the screen is too small and flashes too slow. Sometimes I can't tell if I'm recording.

Oh YES! I would love something else for the recording icon. I have had several times I wasn't sure if I was recording as well. Maybe having a red outline on the screen would help more or the tally light like you mentioned. I would also like true V-Log and a bigger sensor would be appreciated. Thanks for watching!

To be honest, I really don't understand why Panasonic keeps on aplying such an inferior AF system (even their renewed AF system in the Lumix S5 still doesn't work properly), while most video camera users think a good working AF system is much more important than all those video functions the Lumix cameras offer. And as a result you see they buy a Sony instead of a Lumix...

I agree and I’m not really sure to be honest. I’m not sure if it’s something with patents and such or if they just feel like their market doesn’t value autofocus as much. I think other companies see and target the market of content creators and Panasonic is more targeted towards the “filmmaker” who uses manual focus more than content creators. Thanks for watching!

I need 14 bit... Or 16 bit. A codec wich is not soooo big. Or more options for MB/s for Codecs. RAW maybe? Or Vlog internal. Autofocus maybe because on seriously shots I Film in manual.

Haha sounds like you almost need a cinema camera dude! 😂 That would be awesome to have all of that in the GH6 and I think we could see RAW internal with it to be honest. I really have some high hopes for this camera. whoa, just found out a solution to autofocus, lidar, ronin rs2 retrofits your camera and you mount a radar looking sensor to the flash mount, look up make art now on november 6 2020, he has a video on LiDar autofocus for that DJI rs2. it is super expensive though , does work in pitch black though

I saw that a while back. Looks really cool as I love using vintage lenses when possible. It would be nice if it was more affordable or just have a GH5 style camera that can auto focus like my Sony!

Yeah the autofocus is great on the Sonys. I have the a6400 and it’s so nice to have. The 8bit can be tricky at times, but you get use to it

I'm thinking about a GH5 but the h.264 codec it mainly uses is the reason I'm not getting it. Yes there's 72Mb/s 4k HEVC and the 5k 200Mb/s anamorphic regular lens trick in HEVC with cropping/framing to 4k get around 90Mb/s in HEVC (math) but that's too much work and effort and SD card space and 72Mb/s is basically the same as 150MB/s in h.264 so why bother but for space? My main camera is a Panasonic AG-CX350 with HEVC as it's main thing for everything with max 4k60 4:2:0 at 200MB/s internally on two SD cards (U3 Class 10, so CHEAP) but I can't exactly take that everywhere because it's so huge. It can do the same but with 4:2:2 with my atomos ninja V, at the same time. Here's my wish list for the ideal camera with the body style of the GH5: 1. Good auto focus and good IBIS. I hear everyone complaining about autofocus on the GH5 and panasonic in general (no problem on my AG-CX350 though). 2. No recording limits on anything. I would have bought the Panasonic S5 but the 30 minute limit on 10 bit footage..... WHY? Instantly dropped the idea when I learned that about it. Disgusting. 3. HEVC 150Mb/s (or higher - 200Mb/s on my AG-CX350 is nice) at 4k60 10 bit 4:2:2 internally. Nothing less. I would mainly use 4k24 but 4k60 is great. I hate h.264, I'd just get rid of it if it was my choice. H.265 is the future. Maybe H.266 in a few years. 4. Recording to a USB C SSD like the black magic pocket cinema camera 4k can do. That camera is awesome but no continuous auto focus - well it's a cinema camera so that's why. I would get it instantly if it had continuous auto focus. The Black magic raw works flawlessly with davinci resolve which brings me to my next point: 5. (I'm not well versed in what this would cause but here it goes:) A proprietary raw video format just for Panasonic that would rival black magic raw. I'm not sure how this would work with programs like Davinci resolve or others so that's the end of my idea there. Maybe prores Raw at least if davinci resolve ever supports it for windows? Or a free dedicated program to "develop" it into any format and gamut and gamma? Hmm? 6. V-Log with full V-Gamut. No fake V-Log L or "V-Log" that is limited to rec 709. I hate it when Panasonic does that. I hate not having access to all that gamut space. 7. HLG with rec.2020, of course. 8. The option to record at 4k60 HEVC 150MB/s (or higher) 10 bit 4:2:2 internally while simultaneously outputting that on a full sized HDMI port. 9. The option to charge the camera and power it with USB C and record to SD cards. 10. DC power in plug. I use my cameras on a tripod to record events. I have no time for batteries, I don't want to buy a dummy battery with AC adapter and work around that and hope it doesn't unplug during something. Have that, done that. Just a DC power plug in would be very welcome like on the BMPCC4K. 11. Good low light performance. Impress me. 12. The same flip out screen type as the GH5 and GH5s. 13. 6K max, 8K if you can without any remote worry about overheating at any length. I don't want overheating to worry about. 8K is only for framing/punching in for 4K, now, in my opinion. 14. 1080p 240p and 4k 120p at least. Just for an extra thing that I might use a couple of times. 15. Have all this be sold for $1999 for the body and a kit lens for about ~$450 or less. Note I am a newbie regarding lenses but the 12-60mm that can come with the GH5 looks nice.

That is a great list! I totally agree with you on the recording limit on the S5. I don’t understand why as someone who shoots on the GH5 would be compelled to get the S5 since it has the recording limit and less lens options. Hopefully they come out swinging with the GH6! Thanks for watching!

It was back at $1997~ for a brief time before this new deal, the body being $1,297.99 and with the 12-60mm $1897.99. That bundle was $100 more yesterday. It does not have an expiration date that I can see on B&H. Hopefully we are getting closer to that GH6...

I'm with you, the most important is my wish. - Auto focus at least as good as the A73 - 10 bit 422 Prores in all modes - 12 MP dual ISO option (GH6) - 28 MP option (GH6h) 6K - No recording limits - External charging/recording via USB C What I would settle for is the autofocus, just give me the auto focus!!!! I would get rid of my GH4, GH5, NX1, A73, BMPCC4K and get two of these then be all up in the M4/3 system. Otherwise I'm getting two A7S3 and a separate stills camera. I love M4/3 but Panny has one more chance to announce a real camera or I'm gone out of their system forever. JIP has committed to keeping Olympus M4/3 alive but I wont hold my breath for that.

Agreed with the flip-out screen, I much prefer the Sony a6400 style or S1H. I find it much easier to compose your shots, I actually would have pre-order the S5 had it have the same screen as the S1H!

It seems like a little thing, but honestly I feel like it makes it easier for me to pull focus manually when shooting handheld. It would also be helpful when using a monitor and still being able to tilt the screen without having the HDMI plug interfere on the side. I'm excited to see what comes of the GH6! 🖐 I think that videos like yours will not really affect anything, because the Lumix GH6 has already been designed and announced. Certain technical specifications are already embedded in the camera. And the fact that youtubers began to express their wishes and predictions will not change anything. Late... 🤔
