I did a tree circle around my 60 year old sugar maple. I saw videos on KZbin about putting flowers in the circles. It didn't appeal to me as well as a moss plant. I saw these golden moss sedums at Lowe's. I bought 3 & planted them. I later found some blue spruce sedum on a website. I thought about mixing that in to go around the whole tree. Care & texture looked the same. The circle was dug out. Topsoil was added. The sedums were planted. Clay buster mulch went in between everything. Project looks great!

Hello. With regards to watering, sedums love it when you water them from the bottom when the soil is already dry. For the very stable ones, i just leave them under the sun and rain and they do just fine. They grow without too much attention. Well, that works for me with our climate here in our area.

Help! I have a sedum japonicum tokyo sun (yellow variety) in cactus mix, five weeks since potted (shipped unpotted), that is in an approximately one liter pot (full soil), and it is very sparse now; much is dry and brown and pulls out easily (no roots). There are some good looking one inch growths but not much. I assume I have been watering too lightly, once per week. I would add a photo here if I could. What would you recommend I do to try and revive this stressed and thinned plant? Maybe increase the volume (but not the frequency) of watering? Salvage by propagating what remains as cuttings?
@Jha_Nix Жыл бұрын
I would recommend propagating the good looking ones through cuttings. That way, it will help it to become dense and you have a higher chance of successful propagation. If you potted it five weeks ago, it should have grown new roots on its own by now. I'm wondering why it pulls out easily with no roots. Maybe the soil is a bit dry. You may try bottom watering to make sure the soil will be fully saturated. Hope this helps. And let me know how it turned out afterwards.

I need to propagate 100s of Angelina's and I don't have a lot of doner plants. Can I just grow 4 spaced out in a cut off one gallon milk jug, instead of planting so many in one pot?

Yes, you can definitely do that. Angelinas are very prolific. They can outgrow the pot in no time even if you plant a tiny bit of them. As they grow, you can keep on beheading them and replant the cuttings.

Please explain the watering part
@Jha_Nix Жыл бұрын
In terms of watering, the best method for sedums is bottom watering. Bottom watering sedums involves placing the pot in a tray of water so that the soil absorbs moisture from the bottom. This prevents overwatering, encourages deep roots, and reduces the risk of leaf rot. It mimics their natural environment and supports their drought tolerance.
@vasant944 Жыл бұрын

What is the soil mix for these plants
@Jha_Nix Жыл бұрын
Sedum succulents thrive in well-draining soil that provides excellent drainage while retaining some moisture. A recommended soil composition is a blend of potting soil, coarse sand, and perlite or pumice in equal parts. This combination ensures that excess water drains quickly, preventing the roots from becoming waterlogged, which can lead to root rot. The addition of sand or perlite helps to create air pockets within the soil, promoting healthy root development and preventing the soil from compacting.

After the cut sedum is planted in a pot, how does it take to actually start growing? Mine has been several months. Although they are rooted, they don't seem to grow at all.

It depends on the type of the sedum. Some sedums start growing within a month and could take up the entire pot in two months. While some type of sedums take longer to grow and get bushy.
